I had an internship at an animal shelter and we got a cat that wouldn't stop meowing either, it always took an hour of us being silent for him to stop meowing. he only stopped meowing when eating and he ate like crazy as if he hadn't eaten in months. the reason turned out to be that he had so much worms that he was actively starving to death but didn't look it because his stomach was so full of the parasites. when he got medicine to get rid of parasites he got better and the nonstop meowing was a thing of the past. so I fear this cat has the same problem...

Well, the islands werent supposed to be a tourist attraction, and the japanese cant keep track of all the cats due to them not being spayed & neutered so the populations increased very quickly. Also unfortunately , this Island is in the Miyagi prefecture which was the part of Japan where the earthquake and the tsunami 4 years ago were the strongest . The Tsunami hit the island very strongly and sadly over a hundred cats died

Ha! I find it funny that people feel sorry for that cat - the kitty was VERY obviously well fed and socialized AND seemingly gets to live out in the open! Not every animal wants/needs to be at-home domesticated even if it is "bred" to do so. I felt as though it ran up and was saying "hI!" before then changing the meow to "oh! I smell that, gimme!!!" heheehe

Well, the islands werent supposed to be a tourist attraction, and the japanese cant keep track of all the cats due to them not being spayed & neutered so the populations increased very quickly. They are aware of their condtions however they believe the cats should live normally and die normally without much human interaction.

In my country, people would just kick them if there were cats that meowed a lot like that (which I'm really opposed too, but the animal welfare for street cats and dogs in my country are really looked down upon). The cats here are skinny and lots of them has skin disease. So I can say that they (Japan) took care of the cats in their country better than us...
