The question concerning Dues. The group brought up some good points concerning how well up-keep has been. However, with the remark that your stay only cost you whatever your Dues are is misleading. You also have to take into account the cost of your initial investment. Even if you end up selling for the same amount, your out the interest you would have made. I personally think it’s worth it for my wife and I, but you would have to divide your years of ownership into what interest you would have gained to figure what it really cost per night.

Pricing issues come down to a disparity between what is offered and how much they are charging. The only way to stop it is to stop spending - see Starcruiser as the example of the market saying 'this is too much'.

Things are more expensive in general and so it's to be expected that ticket prices will be affected, but they need to do better with the cleanliness and the wear and tear of what's already there. Disney never used to have dirty bathrooms or so much wear on attractions. If they did, the guests rarely ever saw it. That's how it's supposed to be. Now we see it more than ever. They need to fix what's here. They should always stand out for those things, they used to.
Great show guys, look forward each week.

Hot Take: The main reason I don't want Disney making any changes to their Parks now is because they're not willing to spend money. So, don't touch attractions until that mentality changes and until the new Imagineers are as good as the original imagineers have been.

  • @jimlovell8860

It is all about supply and demand. As long as the demand remains the prices will increase. This is completely independent inflation, new additions, park expansions, etc.

Let's stop letting Disney use the excuse of crowd control. Pricing doesn't feel right for that. Use capacity.

So you expect Disney to willingly sell fewer tickets for less money? If that happens, the parks would end up dirtier and with worse staffing than now.

Here’s my take. I am already a DVC member and will be until at least 2042. I have not yet been bitten by the “addonitis” bug, but I do have 150 points every use year. I have stayed at every DVC resort on Walt Disney World property with the exception of the cabins at Fort Wilderness. I have also stayed at the Hilton Head Island Resort. The usual stay is 7 days, but have done as many as 11. Most stays have been at the Boardwalk, with OKW and Saratoga Springs tied for second. The home resort has only been able to be booked twice (Beach Club), but Stormalong Bay is extremely popular. Animal Kingdom Jambo House (will never book a room at Kidani Village) has been stayed in twice and all other resorts have been one stay. The resort on property that has the most stays for me is Disney’s Yacht Club with 8 stays (the last one was on DVC as a signing perk). It may be all those vacation stays at Disney’s Yacht Club that spoiled me, but it’s what I expect for the money being paid.
I have no problem with Disney asking a premium price, but I expect a premiere theme park experience and, right now, it’s just not there. The parks have never been in such rough shape that I can remember. I don’t know if it’s the outsourcing or just people in general, there’s no pride in what is being done.
When a sidewalk piece was in need of replacement, normally you wouldn’t even know (unless it was a hazard). The next day any entirely new section would be in place. Entirely new! Not a patched corner, but the whole section. Landscaping at the parks and at the resorts was all done early enough to not interrupt my walk to Epcot from the resorts. The only landscaping I can remember seeing prior to 2002 was lawn mowing outside of the parks and resorts. Before then, it was just fine prior to park opening (either 8am or 9am, depending on the day). I used to witness entire landscape changes occur overnight at the Yacht Club (yes, overnight as in less than 6 hours).
I used to have friends at the Yacht Club Resort and I’m not talking friendly when I was at the resort, but going out to a restaurant and helping me move kind of friends. People that, year after year, went out of their way to make the experience that much more magical. I just don’t see it anymore.
Again, things can change. I sincerely hope they do. This is a truly awesome theme park and resort destination.

I agree that Disney has outpaced inflation and priced out a percentage of the public. However, if anyone looks at a typical weeklong vacation almost anywhere, except tent camping, it's equal or more than a budgeted Disney vacation for an average family of four. This is my experience. As a Disney fan, I've learned to find the deals that allows me not to break the bank, including purchasing a DVC resale contract, which I know is a luxury.

While I understand the argument about renting and have even used it myself, I have to say it seems like the “dedicated reservations” have a lot of hard to get reservations at higher prices than a typical rental. It’s hard to not come to the conclusion that some of the booking unavailability of those times/room types is due to people booking rooms that they had no intention of staying in for financial gain.

My thing with Muppets is - Disney buying up that IP and then eventually not having any Muppets attraction at any park seems crappy to people who enjoy those characters. It feels similar to Meta buying up competition and ending it.

I honestly think I am the only person who doesn't get the bucees hype. The food was mediocre at best, even my kids didn't like it, took one bite out of their sandwiches or burritos and refused to eat more. The jerky was also disappointing in flavor and texture. No Pepsi products in the fountains a huge thumbs down. Hubby said their ice tea was weak and not good. We will pass and stick to QT and Sheetz in states that have those gas stations instead.

Great show. Besides DVC, we have a traditional timeshare and I have to say, DVC is by far more deluxe than the other places I have been to. With the exception of one in Las Vegas. I will say to the other locations credit, they (like Disney) send maintenance quickly to fix any issues.

As an older guest, who bought DVC for future generations but we still like to attend ... 1- Prices too high - without DVC, our family would not be going to Disney - We have extended family who have tried Disney and will never come back due to prices ... 2 - We hope Disney can mix keeping nostalgic attractions but without boring us by not adding or updating ... Carousel of Progress is a keeper but it must have a new final scene ... ... there are others but as DVC folks, we can rent points but the kids/grandkids still feel safe, have fun and yet attend the parks less on each visit ... due to price and a bit of repetitive boredom ...

As far as dues goes...I respectfully disagree with Derek (but I love ya). What about those that didn't buy in the 90s and are still paying off their DVC? The monthly costs plus dues are sky high. And even if you bought years and years ago you aren't staying anywhere for $150 a night. You've just paid ahead plus interest. I do love the rental process. Great debate as usual everyone!

The whole concept of Disney is based on nostalgia. Chasing 15 year olds is going to leave you with a run down six flags.
There are no, or next to none, fantastic rides. It's all nostalgia. They aren't going to put in fantastic rides, so mediocre rides that have no history would attract no one.

We will not be purchasing the dining plan this time. We eat breakfast in our rooms, just oatmeal. Easy stuff like that. For meals, my children are old enough to count as "adults", but still barely finish a child's portion. So for Quick service, it works out so much better for us to pay cash. Even I can eat a child's portion and be satisfied. We will save so much money and be more flexible on food by paying cash. Plus, if you have a Disney credit card, some restaurants give a discount on the bill.

The cost of a Disney vacation is a personal preference. You don't have to stay in a deluxe hotel, buy the newest loungefly, or purchase the premier express pass. Disney management does need to address the imbalance of cost vs. removal of amenities (looking at you Magical Express).
I don't mind attractions being reskinned but I don't want it done on the cheap. Yes capacity needs to increased but it shouldn't take multiple decades to complete. Please leave Carousel of Progress open.

Disney is outrageously expensive however so is everything else. I spent $800 for two decent seat tickets for a 2 hour concert. On a per minute basis, Disney is cheaper. I find it interesting that people are crying inflation and the economy is soooo bad that they can't afford food and housing BUT they can afford Disney tickets and food as well as airfare (the economy can't be that bad since airports get jammed on holidays and summer vacations). With that said, people need to stop complaining unless they stop spending their money. I have been a DVC member since 2002 and my children and grandchildren have been made Disney lovers. We are already planning my great-grandson 's first birthday at Disney. Another generation. So yes, people will complain but until they stop going, the prices will rise. I resent services being taken away (Magical Express and getting airline check in at resort)

It’s literally a tale of two cities/economies. The top quartile/half is doing very well to okay. The bottom half is getting bludgeoned. Insurance costs skyrocketing. Cost of a new car is almost $50,000. Disney has always been a more expensive vacation, but it was doable for the middle class. Now? Not so much. And people are making tradeoffs. Instead of staying on property, they’re staying off. Or trading down from deluxe to moderate. Moderate to value.

can anybody voting Justified please explain? They're cutting costs everywhere, they've always renovated or built new rides over other ones, that's something they should do to compete (or else they could have left my Horizons alone). If that was a factor, the highest increases should have been in the 80s when they built Epcot then MGM. Expand the capacity of each park if being crowded is so concerning, operate your attractions with all the cast members at full capacity like you used to
