I also have issues with the recording made of Dr Chang's talk. For some reason the pauses in his is speech are completely silenced, as if a voice activated recorder was used. This would be fine if the recording was done in a recording studio, but when used on a talk given in a lecture hall the silences come off as jarring.
Fascinating! But the notion that a chimp's brain is not so different from a human brain deosn't quite sit well. Does a chimp's brain have a Broca's area or Wernicke's Area? (Did I hear her correctly?)
It's also fast for people whose first language is not English :) Still, I'm glad she learned English to such a level and gives talks in English, making her results accessible to everyone, instead of talking in a diff. language and asking everyone else to learn that. Also, I'm pretty sure she has published her results, so it can be read and that eliminates the issue if you are really bothered by the accent.
Speaking up, all Indo-European languages link back to Luwiian the language of the Hittites, where did they get the language from? Perisa, all Indo-European languages spoken today came from Babylon and should NOT be called Indo because the Sanskrit came from Iran in the form of Avestan still spoken today as Farsi in a certain province called Fars in Persia and thusly should be called Iranian. Final analysis; languages do not evolve, they devolve throughout time, like our own DNA. End of stories morning glories.
The Sanskrit language, whatever be its antiquity, is of a wonderful structure; more perfect than the Greek, more copious than the Latin, and more exquisitely refined than either, yet bearing to both of them a stronger affinity, both in the roots of verbs and the forms of grammar, than could possibly have been produced by accident; so strong indeed, that no philologer could examine them all three, without believing them to have sprung from some common source, which, perhaps, no longer exists; there is a similar reason, though not quite so forcible, for supposing that both the Gothic and the Celtic, though blended with a very different idiom, had the same origin with the Sanskrit; and the old Persian might be added to the same family, if this were the place for discussing any question concerning the antiquity of Persia. (Fortson, p. 9)
This is a groundbreaking research - thank you for sharing

Philosophical anthropology: Man developed language in evolution when he perceives the object of desire in woman. (Essay Fragment)
This one, she's no slouch....
She speaks sooo fast, there is no time to think about her comments. Plus her accent makes it worse for americans
+Lou Cifer Not only for Americans...

Professor Fedorenko's accent is not the issue, it's simply her rate of speech. Play recording at half-speed for any chance of understanding.
you can activate the subtitles and pause whenever you want

Speaks too dang fast. I have a B.S. degree and understand all the words she speaks but not at this rate.
Smart people speak fast!
