To be fair to the miami crew, it was a bunch of high schoolers that they had randomly hired and given no training. they had no idea what they were doing.
Yeah, especially since like the commentators were saying, it’s Florida, you’re gonna get rain ALL the time. Really surprising that the team wasn’t better prepared and doesn’t seem to have trained them much
Yeah it also reminds me the mlb used to have an automatic tarp roller back in the day which they got rid of since a player got his leg crushed by it when it starting rolling out for no reason
There is nothing more satisfying as seeing the huge buff grown men curl up over a thunder clap. The next time someone teases me for doing it, I'm pulling out this clip.
I'll always remember going to a rangers game in 2015 when Josh hamilton had just gotten back. It rained heavily and Josh was having a blast sliding all over the tarp. Hilarious
I remember when my sons were playing little league and there was thunder but “no lightning” according to the coach I had to show them that it was impossible to have thunder with no lightning and they finally got a delay. I couldn’t imagine the thunder and lightning where every man was nearly jumping into the lap of the man next to them.
one time i was with my dad and out of no where it started thundering and there was a lighting strike like 50 feet away from us i have never jumped so high and ive never seen my dad so pale
pulling tarps is no joke if you are the one pulling the tarp and the wind takes it get as low to the ground as possible ive been there done that with tarps
They should show when the royals were beating the cardinals in St. Louis. The grounds crew sucked and the royals players went out and got it done so they could play the game.
I remember one time growing up as a kid my dad use to play softball and they had a game one time and it's had looked like it was going to rain the whole game and it's was the last inning and the winning run was on 3rd well as soon as they crossed home plate the rain clouds open up
I race dirtbikes aswell as play baseball, so as I have raced in the pouring rain and mud I always was fine when it rained playing baseball I was used to it 😂
Try pulling a tarp over a trailer of just-harvested rice, all ready at least 10 feet up, the wind catches the tarp and deposits you on the ground. I know what dealing with a tarp in the wind is like!!! 😵
This is the kind of Play-by-Play I lived for in my time. We had a man catch a softball in one hand with a baby in the other hand. That was pretty close.
@@penguin44ca Memory serves, that was right as the Miami franchise was starting up. I think that the management was so cheap that they hired kids right out of high school to be the grounds crew. That was the first time all year that there was rain on the field and the recent high school graduates had no experience actually rolling out the tarp.
you would think in this day and age that we would have progressed with better tarp technology..albeit not as much fun to watch but holy moley that was painful to watch...

Ok edit of my original comment. In may they had another tarp monster at GABP and Tuesday the fans went out in the stands in the pouring rain. It was fun
it’s a bit funny that you said that cause there’s a UA-cam video of several players from my hometown Minor league team, the TinCaps having a dance-off in the middle of a rain delay
To be fair to the miami crew, it was a bunch of high schoolers that they had randomly hired and given no training. they had no idea what they were doing.
Makes me wonder why the tarp roll was even so far away in the first place
Yeah, especially since like the commentators were saying, it’s Florida, you’re gonna get rain ALL the time. Really surprising that the team wasn’t better prepared and doesn’t seem to have trained them much

Pretty sure that incident is why Miami has a roof now 😂

The bullpens playing around with each other was hilarious.
This is proof that you can't take the childish fun out of an adult. Adults can have fun just like kids in their own ways.
I despair for you if you think only kids can have childish fun...
Getting older is mandatory.
Growing up is optional.
Adults _are_ meant to be kids at heart...
“We’ve come this far to go nowhere!!!” What a quote
The tarp is parachute day in elementary school PE gone horribly wrong.
I was at that game! It was a reds game and my mom said "HE JUST GOT EATEN BY THE TARP" I started dying!😂
@@anilynfaith And that's how you become a baseball burrito.
The opening clip of Piazza reenacting Major League 2 about slayed me.
IDK who it is, but that’s someone else wearing Piazza’s jersey! You can see Piazza leaning on the dugout railing smiling while it’s happening.

That first one was not a rain delay moment, actually a rain out moment since the game had already been called by that point
I'll always remember going to a rangers game in 2015 when Josh hamilton had just gotten back. It rained heavily and Josh was having a blast sliding all over the tarp. Hilarious
Give some of these grounds crew some raises for putting their life on the line.
tarp monsters are scary
That's a bit dramatic

Minute Maid Park is the only stadium where if it's raining, you're still gonna get wet.
Splash splash I was takin a bath. All up on the rainy day tarp😂😂

Lightebing delays typically have an expectation of minimal distance though. So the ref may have been right
The whole Miami sequence with Civil War references was perfect lol
The Orioles' Rick Dempsey did the first and best tarp slides
Funny how Buster Onley had the calmest reaction out of everyone in the ballpark @3:16

Every time I think grown men cannot get any goofier they say "Hold my beer"....lol
OMG the tarp was SO HILARIOUS 😂😂😂
that tarp stuck in right field was the beginning of the end for Sports Authority
I race dirtbikes aswell as play baseball, so as I have raced in the pouring rain and mud I always was fine when it rained playing baseball I was used to it 😂
As a Brewers fan, thank god we have a roof lol
The announcers describing the action of the marlins tarp unfolding were the Mets announcers, legends, Tim McCarver and Ralph Kiner.
9:22 that is the peak of disappointment AND wonder at the same time.
Ive pulled a fair few tarps off of ballfields in my life and it's no joke trying to control them
Mlb
If players are getting shocked by lightning, it was close. Call the game off.
Before I started watching I knew the one when Robin Ventura was acting like Mike Piazza sliding on the wet tarp was first, that looked fun.
I'm not into baseball but was a huge fan of Mike Piazza. Guy did so much off the field for kids in every city he played.

Too bad the one with the Mets and Marlins wasn't at Shea. It would have been a very fitting display of futility.

The was the first victim of the tarp monster in Cincinnati 😂
Now you get fined for tarp sliding. Ridiculous
That's so stupid
It’s a shame, but I can understand why. All it takes is one slip or one awkward landing to bust an ACL or an Achilles.
Baseball isn't the same.

Next time, Bring shampoo and wash your hair in the rain.
College and minor league players are more entertaining during rain delays.

You’ll never know why MLB pinned me

Really! Two 18 second commercials to start with, and then 3 more commercials before the video is half over. I'm done.
Do the players take a shower and change outfits if it rained too hard?
Is baseball even real?
You guys pay them all that money make them play in the rain 🌧
