Doug Hannon is one of my hero's. I loved watching his TV shows and tapes. I started to get really serious about bass fishing when I was 16. That was back in 1978 and this is one of the guys I followed. Read his articles and watched his shows. Its really great to watch these old tapes again. The lessons never get old or outdated. What caught bass back then still holds true today. He died way too young at 66. RIP.
man the quality of his videos back then was unreal, seriously looks like something modern. dude was so far ahead of his time with everything, thought process, bait selection etc. Just awesome to watch, and his voice is very calming.
Fortunately, I was able to spend a day with him in 2006 and that is exactly how he was too. The knowledge he possessed was on a completely different level.
Doug was the Obi Wan of bass fishing hands down. I remember watching his segments when I first started bass fishing in the mid 80s. I still learn from him from watching his archives. Thank you for posting!
We need more sportsmen who care so much for the fish that they have a catch and release solution!! God bless, I’d love to be more like this guy (he was before my time) and these vids are great
I have witnessed so many people keep small fry... it is quite pathetic. "They are good for soup lol" This attitude is why fishing holes are all out of fish. A park ranger I was speaking with told me that someone had over fished 53 undersized variey of fish. Guy had his gear and his vehicle confiscated.
You are literally doing the Lord's work with this channel, sir. Two of these Hannon features you've done were some very cherished VHS I had back in the day I thought I would never see again. Truly a gift
One of my most vivid childhood memories... There are a couple of those clips here on youtube. The background music launches you right back into the 80s/90s, it’s crazy...
So refreshing to see an angler with so much respect for the fish and nature in general, he treats them like living things and not just as an object of pride and bragging. He’s a model in every way and such an inspiring man, may he Rest In Peace!
Thanks for uploading this. I had watched these on VHS a hundred times but sold my tapes 20 years ago . Now I can watch again. Always loved doug hannon the best of all fishing personalities for his scientific educated and articulate way of explaining things. The man was a genius. Rest in peace bass professor doug hannon.
Thanks for uploading this. I love Doug’s laidback approach to fishing and life in general. Was really sad to hear about his passing but I’m glad he was able to do these educational videos for us. He’s like the bob ross of fishing to me
I remember when Doug came to my town in the early 80's to teach a class on Bass. My mom had bought a ticket for me and my brother under a pavilion in our local park and included was a copy of his book for each of us. It really opened up our fascination with the science involved, being in nature, observing all wildlife while on the water, and catch-n-release. Mom couldn't understand how we caught bass but didn't bring them home to clean & eat. This world overlooks the importance of a parent that looks for their kid's interests and cares enough to give them opportunities like that. I am not a great tournament fisherman by today's standards because I tell others how I caught them, where I caught them, how I arrived at my decisions & patterns. I love the instruction side of Bass fishing.
What a beautiful soul. Doug is such a wonderful person he seemed down to earth and what I like about him is his humbleness and simplicity in fishing no flashy stuff just a Jon boat and rods and reels.
Wow, this is GREAT, thanks! The speaker referred to "tape 2" about the 59:40ish mark. Can you find that video please? Again, thank you for finding this and sharing.
Thanks for this! Dispels so many myths with great information. I also really appreciate his technique in handling the fish. That's an aspect of fishing that all but completely overlooked these days.
I caught nice 5 pounder out of my lake last week and a friend of mine caught a 6.7 around the same spot on the lake we had a scale and both fish went back in! Definitely good 🧬 genetics but it’s a private lake and it’s not over fished I just take pics and send em back in!! Let them keep growing
Doug reminds me of the type of person that would forget his paycheck at the end of the week because he just seems to love what he dose and loves to share with others RIP Doug.
He was a Canadian-born orphan and went on to do amazing things in this world. No matter your past or present circumstances, God created you beautifully with purpose! Go explore this world and find yours.
i watched all these when i was a kid why i was such a amazing record catching bass fisherman in my life.I caught 5 records i just dont have certified scales an know how to put in the books only reason the books so old cause they not do all that back then to be in the books
I used to watch & enjoy Doug Hannon bass fishing. But some of the points being made in this video are highly debatable. The #1 trophy bass fishing guide here on the Stick Marsh in central Florida, was the late Hugh Crumpler. One day, Hugh had 2 clients in his boat, when one of them caught a 12 lb bass. Less than a half hour later, they caught the exact same fish again, in the same general area. Also, I've caught many bass, including several trophy fish that either had clear signs of hook wounds in their mouths, or a hook or lure still lodged in it's mouth, where the fish obviously broke the line. My theory is this: Some bass behave differently or have different temperaments than other bass. Some bass are MUCH smarter than others. Some giant bass are virtually un-catchable.
I fish out of Glades, but you're right. In Hannon's later years he revised some of the items in this. Towards his last few years, he said he was spending more time diving and studying than fishing. Sadly, a lot of his research died with him. Every species has its Einstein, and every species has their idiots.
wish i could find that video they did Guy under water an they was hitting a huge crankbait an the guy said i never felt them hit it an the plug goes all way in there mouth an they spit it back out
I would disagree that Doug knew more about largemouth bass than anybody. That title would easily go to Buck Perry. In fact Buck knew more about just about any freshwater gamefish than anybody. That being said I loved listening to Doug.
Not so sure he is correct about the lack of directionality in the hearing of fish. Maybe a binary system between hearing and lateral? Find it hard to rationalize the idea that an animal that evolved in water doesn't have the tools necessary to feed itself.
I wonder if Doug hannon was a Star Trek fan? His cold mechanical mannerisms and his tendency to discourage anthropomorphizing bass and distancing his techniques from emotional attachment remind me of a Vulcan. Like if there ever were real Vulcans visiting here on earth, Doug would probably be one of them…although I guess if you were an alien it wouldn’t be wise to make a bass fishing video…
Doug is up in the big lake in heaven now where every cast has a 10 pounder or bigger God bless him
Dang I didn’t know he passed away! RIP DH

I watched Doug back in the 80's on TNN , Who remember's TNN show??? on Sundays
One of my most vivid childhood memories...
There are a couple of those clips here on youtube. The background music launches you right back into the 80s/90s, it’s crazy...
I was glued to TNN on the weekends!
The Nashville Network. They had all the old guys. Dance, Houston, Parker the Bass Masters. Way more than I can remember.
Nothing like them old school soothing fishing videos. 🎣🤙
Do you know what steering system he has
@@isaiah3127 No clue brotha, something highly obsolete probably.
@@isaiah3127 It was just plain old stick steering.
Watching this video changed my game.
This guy really lived the dream.

Thanks for uploading these. Being 16 I haven't gotten to see them before.
I lived this when I was 16; so much so that I committed to Tulane as a sophomore, to major in Aquaculture; Freshwater Fisheries, and Icthyology.
@@shadygraves I’ve got straight A’s at the moment and plan to do law, however biology interests me in many ways as well. Cool stuff.
I could watch these old videos all day

Im glad I'm not the only guy to love watching bass jump
I watch his tapes religiously and rightly so, I haven't been disappointed, this dude was the King.
The 3M Mastery Series were the best fishing videos.
Ahead of it’s time
This is GREAT! I sure do miss these times
What a beautiful soul. Doug is such a wonderful person he seemed down to earth and what I like about him is his humbleness and simplicity in fishing no flashy stuff just a Jon boat and rods and reels.
my mind is absolutely blown. RIP LEGEND
These 3M videos were great. Those old in fisherman videos were great in the format too . Thanks for posting .
Very sad to hear he passed away. I’m just watching this now and learning so much. Much love and respect, God bless his soul.

Easily the best fishing info on youtube. Id like to spend a week with this guy just to talk!
This should be taught in schools!
What an amazing guy!

How in the sweet name of the Baby Jesus is the quality of this near 40 year old video so good?
This must have been so ahead of it's time
i had the VHS tape went with the tape player
He I am learning from a fishing video made 17 years before I was even born
That's 1 mean hook set.
Love it! thanks! How about Bill Dance's old catfishing video?
i wish every bass angler treated the fish like our old friend Doug
Bring back Doug !!
He sadly passed away awhile back.
Thanks

Roland Martin "Senko this , Senko that" everything is Senko 🤣

Doug!
That hook set at 10 seconds was epic. I've seen that before, by bamboo pole fishing fools, but they only came back with a set of fish lips.
Where can I find more old videos like this
Look for Glen Lau's 'Bigmouth'
Doug Hannon has on a Lacoste Sun Hat on where do i find this.
He put that Lacoste gator on his hat himself, always upside down, signifying his opinion of the reptiles.
Only when I’m fishing does the world make sense.
His reel? A Shimano Bantam Magnumlite.
A true coyboy.
Anyone know which spring this was filmed at?
What is he dipping the fish in before releasing them?
Does anyone know what his steering system is called
Stick steering
Stick sterring
Rip Doug. 2013 age 66 complications from neck surgery wow. 🙏🏻
wish i could find that video they did Guy under water an they was hitting a huge crankbait an the guy said i never felt them hit it an the plug goes all way in there mouth an they spit it back out
That was Homer Circle in Glen Lau's video, 'Bigmouth'.
I am gonna name my second son Doug!! 🐐🐐🐐 JUICY BASS HOLES!
Nice to watch someone actually “play” the fish into the boat instead of just ripping it out of the water.
Doug has probably caught at least 350 more 10 lb bass then any body who has ever lived
I'm sorry, did he say this man has caught 400 double digit bass?
Yes, he did
Yes watched him do it a couple times myself.
I would disagree that Doug knew more about largemouth bass than anybody. That title would easily go to Buck Perry. In fact Buck knew more about just about any freshwater gamefish than anybody. That being said I loved listening to Doug.

Nice education. And long before the snakehead got introduced. Hate those snakehead.
First comment!!! 😁
@Fatty Fatty Two by Four I’ll celebrate by buying tons of fishing gear and treat myself and my children to a day on the water! Tight lines!
