    • @kurtfrancis4621

      The men's program was always separate from the women's and less effective. Run by different people within the GDR. Read Charlie Francis' "Speed Trap" for his personal talks with GDR coaches of the time. Not every year was a banner year for the GDR, especially after other countries and athletes caught on to the NECESSITY of doping in order to remain competitive.

      Actually don’t think it was about closing the gap between Rome and Seoul. It was later revealed by USA Anti Doping who retested drug samples from the 1984 Olympics that lots of the Americans were doping then. If a number of the medal winners were dirty in LA84, it’s reasonable to believe they were just as dirty here at Roma87

  • @amupala
    @amupala 15 років тому +1

    Maybe so, Ilona Slupianek was the only East German who got caught in competitions. But In case of Americans, there are some exceptions; Pam Marshall, Diane Williams, Antonio Pettigrew didn't get caught and they had confessed use of doping. Also the BALCO-case happened quite accidentally, I think.

    Carter had to make a decision, on whether or not to send our American Team over to the Soviet Union. You may have forgotten, that the Cold War was going on. If you were President at this time, what would you have done!!! It was not an easy choice, but in terms of him being useless or him making a right choice, I would have went with keeping them home, also. If something would have happened to our Team, then he would have been blamed. Food for thought.

      @@waynehentley4332 In general, this would've been true. Evelyn Ashford would've done well coming off her 1979 World Cup wins - she had already decided to become a "player" on the world stage. Jodi Anderson may have snuck in for a long jump or pentathlon bronze. Kate Schmidt, too, or Karin Smith in the javelin. Mary Decker may have gotten a medal, but probably not. As for the rest of the team, they'd been lucky to be in the semis.

      @@kurtfrancis4621 learn your History. Americans were the women to beat, especially Black Americans because they dominated the entire decade of the 1960s in Track and Field. American Men kicked enough ass to keep the American Press. Your stuck on these women, had the Eastern Bloc Countries not used steroids Black America woman would have continued their domination of Track & Field. White American women would have dominated swimming. It wasn't just the East-Germans. Bulgarians, Czechoslovakian, Poles, Yugoslavia all were doped up during 70s a d 80s. It was the Cold War.
