I struggle to team fight with this hero. Everytime I try to step up to do damage I get punished. Is this the state of ADCs in general? It feels like we just get sneezed on and we die.

Thank you for the video. Team fighting as Jhin is different than in your face ADCs. Play around your abilities first W & R then follow up with autos and Qs.

I just recently got into jhin and adc, my dmg is lacking and i die pretty often even when i start of the game with 3 kills for example cause i die so fast

You need to learn the basics: spacing, kitting, menace concepts, last hitting and vision (not the same as any other lane) Try Ashe to start learning the basics and learn Jhin slowly as he has a really bad mobility.

I'm gold and I do this often. I watch that in teamfights to play like a sniper and use W first on a tagged target and use R then follow up with autos if fight continues. I often die being too close and 1 CC or target swap get gibbed.
