South Jersey surf bite has been tough for me so far this year. It's coming, I just have to be patient. Schoolies have been hit or miss and it's still a little cold in the bay for a good flounder bite yet.
Done ok with schoolies, plenty and fun to catch, but no keepers so nothing to write home about. By mid July I'll be on the flounder bite hard in the Little Egg Harbor Bay, always am, it's just not time yet.
Just found this video and subbed. I’ll be in the Ortley surf the first week of August and although it’s fun, I’m kinda tired of lugging around big chunking gear and mostly catching skates and dogfish. (Not to mention family freaking out about bait in the freezer)😁 This year, I’m switching it up. I frankensteined a lighter, more mobile set up by pairing an 8’ med Berkeley big game rod with a Penn Pursuit IV 3000 reel. Only cost about $60. I wanna hit the beach runnin’ as soon as we get there so I got some high-low fluke rigs, bucktails, 4” gulp, and some top-water poppers as I’m usually privy to some schoolies and snappers feeding on bunker schools close-in. I’m hoping the opportunity arises and the 6” bunker popper I got slays🤞. Top water? Hell yeah. Anyway, I never know what kind of conditions we’ll see that time of year. Sometimes it’s dark coId northern water in the 60’s and the next day it’s crystal clear in the mid 70’s + with fish you usually find in the Carolinas. Jersey in August, you never know. Whatever the conditions, I plan on being out there every morning and evening throwing any and everything I got to rip ‘em outta the surf. I look forward to it all year long.
Dillon love your videos. looking in to start surf fishing, Ilive in upstate NY Kingston area could you suggest a spot to start for me with in a couple hours from me that would be awesome, .
You need to consider and discuss the surf structure (sandbars, trough, etc) tides & current in your videos to be taken seriously. And why didnt you keep that blue? It would have at least payed for the days parkway tolls. Tight lines bro
Jersey sucks for fishing honestly, from Long Island moved here 10 years ago. Its always a god damn grind, never easy. LI is way way easier, better bigger fish.
15 lb chopper blues were common back in the day i dont understand why the blues are dissapearing and the bass doing better. back in the 80s the bass were almost wiped out.
Probably because of the asshole that owns the bait shop in Atlantic City had everyone and their mother out on these same rocks when the bluefish limit was 15 per person and everyone out there was catching gators was a slaughter on them rocks everyday fish piles everywere the blues haven’t ran through there like there since
That Jersey surf grind is for real man , glad you showed what it's really like 🤙🏼
Love how you show how many casts it sometimes takes to catch something. Glad to know it's not just me!
This video showed us what the grind really be like. I was with you hoping you catch something. We all been, way to hang in there.
You don’t always need to catch a lot of fish or the biggest fish to have a good time. This is real fishing.
Dillon you are still the best, I like every of yours UA-cam fishing clip
Keep it up
I’ve been there and nothing is more satisfying than getting one or two before giving up. Way to grind!
You should hammer the long beach island surf. We were lighting it up all Spring and summer.
Dude just drove across his grass! WTF-LOL!!! Must be renter-LOL
It’s actually rocks lol. Weeds make it look grass
Great effort. Keep them coming.

How does the 4500 slammer balance with the 11 footer? Isn't it too small?
Nah I like to try and fish lighter setups. Slammers are heavy too so it balances nicely.

What pound like on your reel?
have you fished at long branch before?
What is the clip/snap you’re using to switch lures quickly ??
TA clips
Yo never spike your rod in the sand like that. I Snap my reel just like that bro. The weight of the reel can snap it right off. Good video. 👍
