- So in today’s video we’re feeding the beef cattle.... we look at the filling the feeder, dispensing the field and then finally have a look at the feed have a quick look at the beef cattle.

I was always told to put the straw in first so it gets a while to be chopped well 🤷♂️
Ethan earle I used to buy I not put it in half way through.... I put a minerals, and 2 other products.. 1 for The prevention of acidosis and another for any toxins in the feed and they’re quite dusty. So found a lot blew away when u put in first. So I put some ingredients in first to prevent losses

Nice looking stock, u seem to be getting good flesh on there back. Hope priceses continue to improve, need to go another bit before there is anything out of them

Hi Gerry, what syrup do you find the best value ? I'm currently using molasses and find a good response but havent tried anything else for finishing cattle. Thanks
How’r ya I’m finishing all my bullocks (30 of them) on a grass diet only in the summer. They are mainly white heads and angus is the 700 kg mark to slaughter still the same or is less because there on grass only?

Love the videos Gerry, you have a great setup and great land, what do you think is the future for suckler/beef farming, the reason I'm asking is because I would think your operation is at the top end of the scale and would be very interested to hear your views or even a short video on it. Thanks Gerry great vlog. Different world to what we a used to here in NZ for fattening cattle. Stock are looking great! Where would Ireland be without the potato? Irish potato & blood running through me, for sure!!

when i grew up we fed cattle silage only during the winter. Why do you do this mix, seems like alot of effort. Are they in all year round?
Depends what kind of cattle you had. I’ve cattle that get fed silage mostly. Young stock . Beef cattle are different set up. Feeding practices are changed also. Your feeding to get the most weight gain per day from an animal
How many heads in pen
In the cattle barn how do you get the animals in and out of the pens? one side appears to be concrete on three walls and concrete feed bunks in front. am I missing something?
Feed bunk as u call them are collapsible allows allows you to take the livestock out the front at any of the front gates

Have you noticed an improvement in your cattle since before adding a diet feeder to your operation?
Blankity Blank buy bulk potatoes off a potato grower. These are damaged or odd shaped ones not fit for human consumption. We have diet feeders since 1999 and they do improve intake and weight gain. You have great or control over feeding. It allows you to buy and mix by-products also

What is in potatoes that are good for beef cattle?
High in energy. Similar in feed quality to beet. Beet keep animals a bit leaner.

too much dairy bred stock in the country now , factorys are never short of cattle and they are killing a lot more per week than they did 10 years ago ................if they go to 4 it will be short lived .........store cattle are very dear compared to factory cattle at the moment ..........

@Dylan Callaghan not in the short term as the uk government will continue with payments more or less the same for 5 more years after that who knows what the tories will do , but the thing to remember that agriculture is devolved so cant see much money for farmers in wales , scotland , or northern ireland ........english farmers will do ok , as they always have ,
