I’ve never read a Sally Rooney book but I remember opening it in the bookshop, seeing there’s no quotation marks, looking to my invisible cameraman with a “seriously” look, and then promptly closing the book and putting it back 😂
I feel like the reason SJM is so rereadable (is that even a word?) is because of the subtle hints as to how the story will tie up, but you won’t notice it until you reread the book.
4:45 you know when Mel can’t stand a book when she doesn’t flip it in an * aesthetically pleasing * way in her B roll. Ms. Rooney owes you money for that damage sis. This was a fun vlog 🔥🤎🤎
I haven't read crescent city. But the message you mentioned, "you don't need to have powers to be special or make a change". It sounds a lot like Encanto. I loved Encanto, I think I'm gonna love housebof earth and blood.
I always feel like rereading a favorite is a great way to get out of a slump. Also I love how you did a 24 hour readathon just to avoid making your bed. Iconic! 😂
I re-read CC in December and it was SO incredible the second time around. I loved it so much the first time but it really solidified it as one of my all time faves the second time around! Glad you enjoyed it for a third time around!
Mel! You’re such a great content creator. I love watching all your book related videos ❤️ You speaking Spanish makes me so happy because there’s not a lot of latinas out here that do it like you ☺️ Ty for what you do. Un abrazo!
This is what Sally Rooney said about why she does not use quotation marks hope it helps you understand her reasoning lol. -When asked about this in an interview, Rooney said “I can't remember ever really using quotation marks. ... The lack of speech marks effectively blurs the lines between dialogue and surrounding narration, prompting the reader to take greater consideration of the prose itself. “You can love more than one person, she said.” This was said it this about “Normal People” but idk if by her or a reviewer. -Rooney's indulgency to not use any quotation marks is an expression of intimacy and trust with the reader. It has no breaks. She knows that you're surrounded in her world and will not lose thought. You know it is Connell's voice in self apathy. (I haven’t read her books yet have normal people on my shelf, but it helps to know that before reading her work since she style is so different, maybe that will help u also even after u read her books)
Yep Sally Rooney does not seem to be for me, I’ll pass! I am so excited to read House of Earth and Blood this month and I hope it’s a 5 star read! Who am I kidding though, I’m a SJM-stan and I expect no less ☺️
I literally did not know whether to start Six of Crows or CC and this video literally convinced me to start CC right naaaaaaw! Thank you Mel you’re amazing 💛
I just discovered booktube not too long ago, and just stumbled across your channel. I want to do a readathon so baaayyyyad. Thanks for the video! Looking forward to more. 🙂
I'm currently reading House Of Earth And Blood for the first time ever and I'm loving it. I'm reading it right now while I had this video playing in the background 🥰🥰🥰
I’ve just finished reading ‘a thousand boy kisses’ by tillie cole and my heart is literally broken. My eyes are puffy. My head hurts. I have no tears left in me. I knew a good melreads vid would put a smile on my face🙂
@@MelReads sad doesn’t even cover it. That book was heart wrenching. I’ve never cried so hard to the point where I physically couldn’t breathe. I would 10000% recommend because that book makes you view life in a different light and ugh, Poppy and Rune’s story was just so beautiful
It is super interesting to hear how different your opinions are on Beautiful world, where are you compared to other people like Jack Edwards. I havent read the book yet so I cannot personally give my opinions on it but I am really curious as to how I will react to it
omg not me binging all your videos while i study, hopefully this doesn't come as creepy D: but i gotta mention, you talking about body dysmorphia just shook me, i'm so glad i found your channel ; ;
I brought the beautiful world where are you for my nan, I didn’t know what it was about and now I’m questioning my life just imagining my nan reading it 😭
Hi Mell!! I wanted to ask you about a kind of journal that you use in your video to rank and write an opinion of the books you've read. It appears at the minute 4:59. Did you buy it somewhere or have you done it yourself? Loved today's video PD: aaamo tu español y me encanta que le hables a tu hermano en una mezcla hermosa de los dos idiomas
That's a clockwork reader's new journal. I have it and it's so pretty and has most things you could want in a reading journal and you can get it off amazon
I'm with you on Beautiful World, Where Are You? I loved Normal People and Conversations With Friends but couldn't stand her newest. It made me question my feelings on the first two!
I didnt even know you were doing a 24 hour readathon too! I did one this past weekend and I was able to read You Have a Match, about half of Children of Virtue and Vengence, and Luck of the Titanic
lol i keep seeing that Sally Rooney book everywhere and I have just been resisting it because it just didn't seem like it would be good. Good to know I will certainly not be reading it lol.
Quite frankly, if I'm going to lose sleep, I'd rather it be over reading some good books than anything else. 🤭 I would love to do a 24-hour read-a-thon at some point. I really would like to see how far I can push myself to read, and how many books I'll manage to get through.
I love your energy 🥰 I need to try Sally Rooney… but I’m here for the Crescent City part! I just finished this week and did a vlog. You’re right it has great reread potential - there’s so much more I can get from the world and the foreshadowing now that I know what happens. I am just not ok yet to do it again 😭
“beautiful world, where are you? more like atrocious world, you are here” DEADDDD
someone had to say it👀
I’ve never read a Sally Rooney book but I remember opening it in the bookshop, seeing there’s no quotation marks, looking to my invisible cameraman with a “seriously” look, and then promptly closing the book and putting it back 😂
NAHHH BEC LITERALLY
I feel like the reason SJM is so rereadable (is that even a word?) is because of the subtle hints as to how the story will tie up, but you won’t notice it until you reread the book.
i definitely agree!!! they just get better (for the most part lol) on every re-read❤️✨
They also have every fantasy/romance tie that we love! Consistently something good happening
Omg “same shit, different fucking toilet” 😂 This is an iconic line I will forever use now !!

Wow I love your videos thank you for saving me from reading Beautiful World Where Are You 😭
miss haley?! helllooooo🤩 and TRUTHFULLY, save yourself😂
The masochism is real. I would've definitely DNF'd it. Just the book not having quotation marks and no paragraphs would've done it for me. 🙅
No quotation marks paragraphs 💀 immediate DNF!
I listen to as an audiobook so it won't bother me. But it did and i dnfed it. I somehow survive the normal people but this was.....umm ...not for me.,
i was DETERMINED😂
I had to listen to Normal people I read 5 pages and gave up - that's the first and last book written by her I read lol
Mel reading Sally Rooney to torture herself is the funniest thing 💀😭
i'm glad it was entertaining, because at this point... that's all that is left😂

it's slightly different from encanto, but definitely has some overlapping themes!!
