I was somewhat expecting Joyce to talk to Jim about the heart to heart talk he was supposed to have with El and Mike. I thought the conversation would've been like this...
Joyce: When we were in the process moving out of the house to come to California, I found your speech.
    Jim: My speech?
Joyce: The heart to heart talk you were supposed to have with El and Mike. I know you didn't do it. And don't lie to me saying you didn't do it. El told me you never had it with them.
    Jim: I--
Joyce: You told them that Mike's grandmother was dying?
Jim: They were not taking the moment seriously. They were laughing and I just--
Joyce: You threatened Mike though. El told me that Mike told her that you scared him.
    Jim: I'm sorry.
Joyce: It's not me you should be apologizing to. It's them you need to apologize to. El told me that when she found out that the stuff about Mike's grandmother was a lie and thinking it was all Mike's idea to keep away from here, she broke up with him.
Jim: That explains why it Max was hanging out with her that night you didn't show up at Enzo's. Look, I do feel bad about it though for causing that break up with Mike and El.
Joyce: I know. But you know what? El read your speech right after I found it. And when I checked up on here after I left her alone for a little bit, she was in tears. She really loved it. I read it too. I thought it was really good. And even though you didn't get the chance to say it to her, I am still proud of you because the message still got to her.
Jim: What about Mike? Did he get to read it?
Joyce: We didn't have time when we were moving. But Mike did visit us over Thanksgiving and El decided that would be the best time for him to be read the speech. El asked me to read to them. Even though she already knew what it said, she wanted to hear it while sitting next to Mike because that's what was originally supposed to happen. Mike really liked it too. He said he wished he respected you that night.
Jim: When we get home, I'm gonna apologize to them.
