    Dear Tom, I am writing from Italy, your videos are very well made as your detailed and honest reviews. You deserve a lot more from the UA-cam audience, you're definitely better than most of people here doing the same as you but with more subscribers. Keep going! Maybe some partnerships would give you more visibility.
    Thanks for your commitment

      Hi Nicolamatricardi - Thank you very very much for your kind words. I do put a serious effort into them and consider how I will present each one. If there is anything different I can do I try to think of that too to make it more interesting. Honesty is very important to me and you will notice that I didn't really say anything negative about these lanterns and that's because there wasn't anything in reality. I don't just want to find something negative because most other reviews will do that. I love outdoor kit and still get super excited when I get something new and good (new tent due today!!!). UA-cam is tough building up subscriber numbers but I just have to be patient and keep creating more content. Coming up soon will be a new lightweight stove review and the new tent of course. Probably being too heavy on the retail therapy as I can't get out camping. I hope that you are safe and well and getting outdoors if you can. ATB. Tom

    I don't know how much sense it makes to pack an additional light source when you will be carrying a headlamp anyway. I guess it is a luxury item that some people will be willing to carry to make the camping part more comfy but it does not belong to my usual overnight needs (alpine climbing or extended routes). Great light though! Led Lenser means quality no matter which model you look at. Great video as well.

      Hey thank you for your positive comments.. I totally agree with you regarding the extra light thing.. The ML4 is only about 70g I think from memory.. If I am going to use my headtorch as a light in the tent then sometimes I bring a power bank as depletion of the battery may not leave me enough power to get off the Mountain in the middle of the night if needed. That's one option I like to keep open.. So I kind of do it both ways, sometimes I bring it mostly in winter when spending longer hours in the tent.. Yes I really like Ledlenser and have been impressed with the quality of every single one of their lights that I have tested... ATB and thank you once again... Tom

    Hi Tom, this review was awesome, thank you! Two questions:
    1) What tripod are you attaching to the ML6 (great idea)... and how'd you attach it?
    2) Did you notice a big difference in the "Warm" and Regular light versions of these lanterns?
    I'm leaning towards the ML6 Warm since it appears easier on the eyes at night, but I'm hoping it doesn't sacrifice too much performance.

    • @TOMHEANEY100
      @TOMHEANEY100  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Christopher, thank you for your comments. The ML6 has a quarter inch thread on the bottom so most small tripods will screw straight into it. I have no experience with the regular lanterns I am afraid but I do like the warm soft light. The ML6 has fantastic features especially through the app which works flawlessly. ATB Tom

    Good review. But I am not to happy about these magnetic charging contacts. Once connected and charging you should leave it alone. If you accidentally pull the charging cable the contact can turn. It doesn't come off but since it is maybe turned 90 degrees, contact is lost.

ML4 warm light is cheaper (5 euros) but have only 40 hours of autonomy (45h for ml4 classic). Is there anything else ? If I tap once, I get the white light, a second time from there will just make it brighter, if I tap twice from off, I get the boost, and if I keep the button pressed from off (I tried different durations, from 2 seconds to about 6), I get the red light... Hi Tom, I am sad to hear that you are glad that they are moving away from USB. The U in USB does stand for Universal, you know that pesky standard that makes sure that all USB devices are compatible. Now on a hike, when I lose the non universal charger cable for the led lenser due to .... whatever.... I am screwed as the charger cable for my phone cannot charge it... it is not universal... The common charger cable for anything usb cannot charge it as it is not universal, I cannot go into a gas station and by a new cable and charger... as it is not universal. Basically I need to order a new cable, a very specific cable that only works with this product. So, please, the next time you decide to trash on industry standards think a little bit ahead and ask yourself... is a non universal standard really a good thing?. :). Cheers

      Hi thank you for sharing your comments here and taking the time to write them well, I appreciate that. I didn't mean to TRASH USB and am sorry it came across that way. Any time I have had water ingress into my waterproof USB charging android phone I cant charge it. So this is a potential failure to me. I do get it re the unique cable issue but everything has pros and cons. Believe it on not, in support of what you say these two lanterns even have different magnetic cables..... I love the idea on a head torch due to the fact that it is totally sealed from water and dust and for outdoor use in harsh environments but maybe on a lantern its more of a hassle than benefit. Garmin as you may or not know doesn't use USB on its watches (I suspect this may be due to protection too) and very few seem to have issue with this... Once again Thank you for the challenge. No worries Tom

      @@TOMHEANEY100 Hi Tom, no worries, I am not a native English speaking person and reading back the post it did fail to express the point I was trying to drive home.in a decent manner. The real problem with text is no intonation which did sound right in my head but clearly did not come across. It was supposed to be more of a tongue and cheek remark saying OH you do not like usb well, what if.... And it failed to drive home the point that the U in usb is everything but universal. There are a dozen form factors for usb, it is the least universal port from an user perspective (chip wise it is though) en good lord all the different charging protocols between manufacturers (concerning quick charging) is muddying the waters even more. And you are right, the most common "micro" usb connector is bad, realy bad. It eats grime as lunch, and often just fails to hold on to any cable within a years worth of use. USB C is a good contender though it seems to be a lot sturdier.
      I actually do have a led lenser torch, I believe it is the P7R? and I do like the magnetic charger port. It is bomb proof, I cannot see it failing unless I willfully smash it repeatedly on a rock or something in that nature. The cable is an issue though, it would be better if, for example, for outdoor gear the manufacturers would agree on a single type of system and actually make it universal.
      I hope you understand what I am trying to say here :D, it was not intended as an challenge because there really wasn't anything to challenge :P.
