The Bell 429 is a twin-engine light helicopter manufactured by Bell Textron Inc. It is designed for versatility and high performance, featuring a maximum cruise speed of 150 knots (278 km/h) and a range of 411 nautical miles (761 km) when equipped with auxiliary fuel. The helicopter is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW207D1 turboshaft engines, each producing 635 shaft horsepower (474 kW). This allows the Bell 429 to achieve a service ceiling of 20,000 feet (6,096 m) and hover ceilings of 11,000 feet (3,352 m) in ground effect and 6,000 feet (1,829 m) out of ground effect.
The helicopter measures 41 feet 8 inches (12.7 m) in length, with a height of 13 feet 3 inches (4.04 m) and a main rotor diameter of 36 feet (10.97 m). The cabin volume is 204 cubic feet (5.8 cubic meters), providing ample space for passengers or specialized equipment. With a maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 7,500 pounds (3,402 kg) and an empty weight of 4,465 pounds (2,025 kg), the Bell 429 offers a useful load capacity of approximately 3,035 pounds (1,377 kg).
The cockpit is equipped with a Garmin G1000H integrated avionics system, featuring advanced flight displays and single-pilot IFR capability. The Bell 429 is known for its safety systems, including Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC), dual hydraulic systems, and stability augmentation. These features make it suitable for a variety of missions, including emergency medical services, corporate transport, and search and rescue operations.
