indeed. I'm looking forward to MLB;s upload of the full game at the end of the season. I canceled the recording of it on my DVR when I heard about the delay thus the only no-no I still have is Sean Manaea's from last year.
Who cares if he needed 131 pitches, his current ERA, or the team he faced?! Not the prettiest no hitter, but congrats to Fiers! That's twice for him now!
Throwing that many pitches can affect your next time out so it will be interesting to see how long he goes his next start and how effective he'll be. I'd like to have heard the breakdown of his pitches.
Fiers may have thrown two no hitters, but he'll never ev en come anywhere near Nol an Ryan's record of seven n- o hitters. Oddly enough, not one of Ryan's no hitters was a perfect game.

My how times have change d. Years ago pitchers were required to go the distance i f possible regardless of how many pitches they threw. Te ams didn't worry about pitch counts like they do today. In 1920 the Brooklyn Dodgers & Boston Braves played to a 26 inning 1-1 tie that was ev entually called due to darkn- ess as they didn't have light s then; the game was never finished. Nowadays when a pitcher reaches a certain pit ch count he is immediately yanked for a reliever. Compl ete games are gone as well; pitchers salaries were deter- mined by the number of ga- mes they completed. Stolen bases is another stat that's down; nobody steals the wa y they used to. So it's a prett y safe bet nobody will EVER break Rickey Henderson's 1 406 bases pilfered for an en tire career. A lot of things ch ange, but not necessarily for the better. Another stat we'll probably never see again is t he 300 game winner, which stands to reason Greg Madd ox will be the last. Pitchers get hurt more & spend time on the disabled list, which d oesn't help their cause any. I n that Braves/Dodgers gam e from 1920 I think both sta rters went the distance.
Are you guys faq’n serious? You didn’t see him use the foreign substance every other time he got a new ball... the ole thumb dab on the glove. Just type no hitter cheater!
But if in the next 4 or 5 starts he goes less than 6 innings while giving up 4+ runs that will be ALL anybody says about him. Sucks that it's like that these days. Negatives always outweigh the positives.
Well sure, but that would make sense. His career 101 ERA+ and 4.38 FIP indicates he is a league average pitcher, at best. The Guy will always have his ups and downs. Got to accept his 4 meh starts for one good one
@Depressed Kings Fan Unfortunately, neither of those things are indicative to how Mike really has been pitching this year. It is 2019, positively or negatively acknowledging w-l is redundant. ERA gives someone a general idea of whats going on, but it has its flaws. It does not take into consideration ball park factors, your defense behind you, or (if you leave runners on) your bullpen behind you. This is the case in Mike Fiers this year. I will Elaborate more; There are things you can look at, that tell you immediately if a pitcher is getting bailed out by his team or if they are screwing him Batting average on balls in play (BABIP) - can be heavily influenced by defense, and the ballpark ( normally Babip sits in between 290-300. Anything higher can be unlucky, anything lower can be lucky) Left on base % - can be influenced by the 2 factors above, plus the bullpen (if your bullpen inherits your runners) -usually sits in the mid 70s% (Around 80 is pretty lucky, under 70 is generally unlucky) Of the 75 qualified starters in the Major Leagues Mike Fiers has the 3rd lowest BABIP (.240, really low), and the 9th Highest lob% (79%). The A's have bailed out his era quite a bit, but its not just Babip and lob% that support that fact; Metrics that take away team and ball park factors ( like xFIP and Siera) that focus on what a pitcher has produced on his own. He is downright terrible. Out of the 75 qualified pitchers again, Mike Fiers is the 2nd Worst in xFIP and 3rd Worst in Siera. Mike's ERA is extremely flawed. Everything screams regression for him. I hope this helps you further evalute players in the future. Have a good day!
Yet this guy had one of the worst ERAs with the tigers last year? Just tells me the tigers have the worst coaching staffs in the mlb. What ever Oakland's staff said to him or had him work on, it worked.
Uh, He has a 5.20 xFIP and 4.83 Siera. Small sample size, only 46 innings, But, Oakland has done nothing. He's not having a good season. Its Baseball, average/below average guys can have their moments I.E. Philip Humber, Dallas Braden, Edwin Jackson, Chris Heston, Edinson Volquez, etc, etc. Got to love this sport.
Do you know how hard it is to get a perfect game or a no-hitter in baseball? Doesn't matter WHO it's against. It's still a great feat that's hard to accomplish
@@jordanschwarzlose9218 the Reds offense has been HOT lately. 37 runs in their last 4 games. Also they didn't get no-hit by some random pitcher on the Cubs, it was Jake Arietta's second no-hitter back to back years.

We so needed that to get out of our funk......time to start winning again A's! Fiers!!!!!
Mike was on Fiers!
4:39 look at his fingers, pine tar?
Abe its called sweat
Maybe. He touches his hat a lot too, and there is a black spot just where he touches it.
Nice work from Fiers!
Boy his fastball had great late life. Excellent movement.
He did a great job of placing his change up and changing speeds on it. You don't often see a deuce in the dirt ending a no-no either.
he had pine tar in his glove look it up
He only used foreign substances for 19/20 of his pitches, so this no hitter is super legit
damn how'd i not hear about this til now
Great job! Kinda of an under the radar kind of guy

2 and an error on chapman. 3 baserunners
Joe Marinaro it’s the 300th no hitter, so he walked 300 batters!

He should have been allowed to do this in Houston with the Astros! Why did they let him go?
Credit goes to ........ pine tar !!!
With the nice help of pine tar
Reds still have a ways to go... this is the proof...
Looks like he has something on the brim of his hat...
