Great interaction between you guys ... Interesting and in the main was nodding in agreement. Although you implied it, i think its worth saying that Adam not only brings great vocals and mercifully not the same as Freddie, he brings youthful energy which helps inspire and motivate Brian and Roger... As much as none of us want to admit it, they are not getting any younger! For me personally, my go to live or studio versions of Queen songs are always Freddie... No one else has the diversity of vocal range combined with the power and passion and the sheer animal magnetism of the man. Btw Did i miss a part of the discussion as i didnt hear anything from the young lady? Anyway good review 👍

Thanks so much for your kind words. We definitely agree with you. Lambert does a good job but unconsciously you always compare to Freddie, which is ofcourse not a fair comparison since a lot of these song also come from his mind. Either way it's great that Queen found its new frontman and can keep bringing all those great songs to the stage. Ana didn't see the documentary btw so she left the talking to us on this one : ) This video is part of our longer show which you can find on the channel where we talk and discuss about more topics. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! - B

International Movie Friends 😂 there is nothing unconscious about my preference for Freddie. When I listen to the amazing voice of Adam I do not compare him to Freddie... his voice is to my ears entirely different ... you said it yourself that you can hear the more theatrical musicals voice from Adam .. infact go back to his AGT audition and that’s what Simon Cowell also said... I have been a fan of Adam since that day but not because he compared in anyway shape or form to Freddie. Although it may look like semantics to us the fact that the Roger and Brian with Adam is called Queen with Adam Lambert is super important... the fact they haven’t released new songs under that banner is also telling. Adam potentially has a long career ahead of him so I think it also makes sense from his point of view. Some may argue that it’s only half of Queen in the first place without John and Freddie. Anyway back to the point. The Show Must Go On is a good documentary because it does what it says on the label.. it’s about what was and how the show has gone on... other bands have simply replaced band members and whilst bass, piano and vocals are now performed by others, Roger and Brian have never replaced their band bro’s.. they have perpetuated Queens music to multiple new generations of fans while having total respect for the original. Understand that I adore Freddie but sadly he has passed on and his legacy is in the hearts and minds of others. Maybe I will finish this diatribe by suggesting you listen to Freddie singing “Time waits for no one” written by Dave Clark .. the 1986 release is not my favourite .. the 2019 remix using Freddie’s original vocals and stripping out all the “fluff” added in previous version is very very powerful.

@Waggish Feline thanks for the tip, will surely do! Yea you make good points. I also really loved seeing his AGT audition. Watched it back several times over the last years. There's always something fascinating about seeing a big star emerge on a tv show. Regarding the documentary, for me it's a bit to long ago that i've seen it to give a full comment or judgement on it. But when i saw it on tv I remember being impressed and fascinated by the story. I do also get Koens point though that maybe the documentary could also have put a little bit more emphasis and respect to Paul Rodgers that came before Lambert. Make it maybe a little less Lambert centred, but especially from a marketing standpoint I get the decision to tell the story this way. Either way I enjoyed the documentary. Thanks for your insights and will listen to the song!

International Movie Friends re Paul... not sure what the atmosphere of decision to end the collaboration was.. maybe it all felt a bit tired and from a commercial viewpoint it didn’t bring any new revenue streams based on age demographics ... I appreciated Paul’s singing but it’s not the same energy as Adam that has definitely and significantly widened the audience. The other thing I noticed is that Brian and Roger were complimentary about Paul and I sensed more was recorded of that than made it to the final cut. Sometimes it’s what gets left out that changes the feel and messaging. Hard reality is that many of these things are not for historical or accurate posterity.. they also have to be commercially viable. Ah well signing off and hope you enjoy the recommendation 🌹👍

Good reaction - BTW, Paul Roger is considered to be a good singer - he is - in his music genre. But he wasn´t able to sing half of the Queen catalogue and some song became... just terrible. He partly damaged big part of their reputation and it was possible to hear it when they started to tour with Adam Lambert - fans were very sceptical after they had seen them with Paul Rodger. I´ve heard that before their concert in 2015 also. And Brian knows it - he is just very polite to say it aloud because Paul was his friend - that´s why they ended the cooperation than. Adam has won them the big part of the fans back and has brought big amount of his own fans and big amount of brand-new fans. So that is why the story is mainly about their cooperation - because that is important.
And according to the review you havn´t seen a single concert they have made so it´s time to change it as soon as it is possible. Adam is able to be raw when he wants to. Freddie smoked a lot - he just was destroying his own voice.

WOW! So Adam Lambert is runner-up on Season 8 of American Idol. That's true yet he's the ONLY IDOL who could sell out and did perform a 100-Show Worldwide Tour six-months after he was on Idol. Just six-months later. Incredible. He even sang in countries where Queen has never performed. People like you - and there are many - just make up stuff. Read a book, conduct research before making up lies. Adam was a global superstar before Queen. He even rejected their first request for him to join them as their frontman in 2010. If you're really LAZY go to Wikipedia.

If Brian May and Roger Taylor think that Adam Lambert is perfect for their band there really shouldn't be any argument , after all they should know best!

Did you say John left after Live Aid?? Dude 😂 John left in 1997. Queen didn't stop after Live Aid(Freddie wasn't diagnosed until 1987), they all kep going until he died and then they did the tribute concert in 1992 and and song dedicated to Freddie in 1997 called No One But You(Only The Good Die Young).
I think Adam is amazing. He's not Freddie but he's not trying to be either. He's doing his own thing. I think he foes a great job singing their songs. It's a very good documentary.

You're totally right Sanna! Thanks for pointing out, this show is fun and educational at the same time for us 😄 I agree that Adam Lambert does a good job. I think it's very difficult to sing someone else his source material especially when it's as unique as Freddies but he gives its own take on it. And then it just comes down to whats your taste I guess. Lambert sure has a great voice. Thanks for sharing your thoughts (and educating us :)) - Bas

I thought that it was great and you're very wrong about Lambert. He is the best singer ever. Brian May and Roger Taylor call him gift from God and a voice in a billion. And he worked for 10 years as a session singer before going to American idol as a last resort in order to get a contract. You seem to know nothing about the guy and you're content with your ignorance. I don't value your opinion at all and it goes against anything anyone who's someone in the music industry has said about him. You seem to be stuck into the utterly ridiculous cliche that to be a rock singer you need to be a barking dog. Thank god Mercury was nothing of the sort and neither is Lambert.

Happy to hear you enjoy Lambert and his music so much. That's what music, movies or any art form should do I think. And it's good that there are so many styles and different flavours so that everybody can enjoy something that suits there taste. I think Adam Lambert is a great singer and very happy that Queen is bringing with Lambert their songs back to the stage. But when hearing him sing the songs I always think about the original and Freddie Mercury was ofcourse the brilliant mind behind a lot of the songs, its his source material. So I think no one could really replace him. But that doesn't mean that Adam Lambert doesn't do well or that he isn't a great singer. It's simply a bit different style. Keep enjoying the music Peter Pan and thanks for sharing your thoughts. - Bas
