- This is a rough-and-ready follow-along as I make a Balearic-style sling out of paracord. With some practice braiding you can make all kinds of designs and color patterns.
Thank You For the easy to follow tutorial, I followed along and made one with you and it works GREAT!! I implemented some of my design elements but the body is like yours! Its nice to be able to make a different kind of sling than my normal one!:)
Came from Mike Boyd’s channel did not dissapoint
good vid. mine looks not nearly as good as yours but is functional
The part where you end it seems kinda unsecure with use, i also kinda had crappy cordage that doesnt seem to enjoy just a simple overhand loop so maybe thats why...
you got some crazy good form though and clearly have alot of practice, thanks for the tutorial
Cool
very nice of you, thanks a lot
This looks great. I wanted to make the one by Blind Squirrel and will most likely follow that tutorial for the finger loops but will for sure use some stuff I saw here (the X in the pouch specifically; I think that's a great addition. Glue also seems like a great idea).
Gonna make a sling brb , also making clay amm9
Nice. What are the pros and cons of flat and round braids?
Round braid pros: more stiff, less stretch = more power efficiency and release/flight path accuracy & consistency.
Round braid Cons: more potential for the cord wanting to twist/spin on the horizontal axis, which potentially affects flight path and release accuracy and consistency
What matters most is the skill of the slinger with a given sling they build consistency on. For most beginner and recreational slingers, braid type is generally a preference.
As a sling maker, flat braids are technically a lot easier to work with than round braids, which is why most prefer flat patterns over round.
Thanks!
Thank you bro ❤
Great video, friend. One question, what paracord thread do you recommend using? A 550 with 9 cores, or a 7-core one... or perhaps a 450? Thanks in advance.
I THINK I just solved the pouch for my latest sling (4 strand like I've been doing the entire time), using your splice in technique. Not perfect, it's the first time doing it, but it looks pretty good currently so thank you. Edit: how to re-enter the braid though? I went from a 4 strand braid to 6 strand and now don't now how to re-enter into a 6 then 4?
If by 6 strand you mean 3 stands on each side of the pouch: you'll transition to a 3 strand braid for the belly. After 1-2in, you'll transition to a 12 strand braid, gradually reducing individual stands until you hit a 4 strand braid at ~3/4 to 7/8 the length of the retention cord. You'll want to terminate your retention cord on a 3 strand braid or you won't get an ideal taper finish, which will effect the ability for you to efficiently transfer energy to the end of the sling/cracker and can wear out the end retention cord a lot faster.
This isn't an issue if you're using loose fiber, as you can create a taper by manually reducing the number of fibers to get your taper if you want to maintain a 4 strand. But with Paracord, you'll want that 3 strand for at least 2-3in before the knot.
@@doloinc Thanks for this reply first off. It's been a few months and my slingmaking has improved by a LOT. I've been doing mostly round 4-strand stuff though but am now about to order more string and try flat braids again (4- and 6-strand and POSSIBLY a 6-strand round). I did make a couple of flat 6-strand slings and ONE of them turned out very well (the other the fingerloop is a bit awkward).
Not super comfortable with a 6-strand MW-knot, this is how I do it, so will try something like you do and have the third string join further down; not entirely sold on your version for the loop but will give it a try as well.
Do you taper by cutting the innards of your cord as well (I do that for my 4 strand versions; just strip the innards right after the belly and cut them staggered for a gradual taper) or leaving strands out is enough? If you don't remove the innards is it something you've ever tried/would recommend?
@@SicketMog I personally found 5 strand to be easiest to work with for flat blades. Regardless, you'll want to stick to odd numbers of strands for flats and ideally even numbers for rounds.
Are you using adjustable tension and/or double finger loops? I was using both because that's what was popular, but have since moved away from them as I've found they seem disrupt consistency in myself and others who I've made slings for, which impacts accuracy. It's a little bit harder to size them for customers that don't order slings in person, but an over/undersized fixed loop is still more consistent than a double/adjustable one, in my experience.
If the MW/Turkish knot isn't working for you, try a diamond knot. Then again, the MW/Turkish or any other locking/sliding knot is really only essential for sling builds that use double and/or adjustable finger loops.
What a godsend! Thank you!
👍😎
Te recomiendo que la hagan con hilo cáñamo, de lana o pita
How do we find you on etsy?
