  • Much wants more. The Americans demanded bigger engines than 500cc, so Triumph gave them the 650cc Thunderbird... but even that didn't satisfy them for long, so the stakes were upped with the launch of the Tiger 110. Nigel C. takes a look at one of the earliest and one of the last.

A great complement to the magazine article. Nothing like being able to hear them ride off!

That slick shift was a great idea. I had it on my 1957 model T110.The QD rear wheel was also a great idea.

I'll take one of these old Triumphs over a new bike any day.

Great sound. I had a '73 Daytona with original sausage pipes, they certainly didn't sound that rorty.

Same here. Red '73 Daytona. But I swapped out the original sausage pipes for a pair of Dunstalls and they sounded fantastic. 🙂

Converted my 58 to 12volt. Left 6volt dynamo on it & let digital voltage reg sort it out., just swapped globes.

I like those fiberglass fenders. They cut down the weight, makes the bike easier to wheelie.

+John Mård My first bike was a 1959 Triumph Thunderbird. That was 1963 and the bike cost me 270 pounds ($540). Covered over 30,000 worry free miles. Did the bike races at Bathurst each year for four years. The park in the middle of town had bikes three deep angle parked around all four sides, the owners knocking back schooners in the pub opposite. What heady days they were. And what hang over days the morning afters they were as well, hahaha. One of the mates staggered out of the pub and couldn't find his black Triumph Tiger 100 in amongst all the other 100s of black Triumphs, poor bugger had to wait till quite a few rode away to reveal his bike. There was a motorcycle shop in Brisbane, that were selling fully restored 1963 Triumph Bonnevilles some years ago and I wonder if they're still doing so. Of all the early Triumphs, the 1963 Bonneville was my favourite and now I see that they are releasing a 2016 model that reflects the styling of those earlier models, which surely says something for it's iconic looks...

Knowledgeable fellow, great video. But when he pats the beautiful paintwork and bangs his wedding ring on the parts, it makes me cringe!
