village of Villajoyosa

Located in the south of the Costa Blanca we came across Villajoyosa . Traces of ancient civilizations of the Bronce Age were found but the village with the name Villajoyosa was founded in the year 1300 by admiral Bernard D' ensaria under the reign of king James II. In the north is the fishing port with the market and furthermore the re s a small shipyard for repairing fishing boats .
In front of the main beach you came across the neighborhood Arsenal . It was build in the 17 century and it is one of the most picturesque part of the city because the wide variety of colors of the facades of the fishermen's houses .
The square of San Pere was build on the remains of the Roman port nevertheless if you walk through the narrow streets you came across ancient monuments of the rich history of Villajoyosa .
The most important monument of the village are the defense walls in which had been integrated the bell tower of the church which had served as watchtower .
More in the south of the village the hanging houses were build on the remains of the defense walls along the riverbed of the Amadorio River .
In the outskirts of the village and build on the rocks nearby the sea excels the Xarxa watchtower which was part of the defense infrastructure against piracy .
