I have a Manfrotto monopod I have been using for ages but looked into the ifootage cobra a while back mainly for the design where you can remove the pole and use it super low to the ground. But after seeing this new strike version with the hydraulic design, I’m 100% getting that instead. I love the fact hydraulics are being implemented into monopods and tripods (like the smallrig x potatojet tribex)
So, I recently purchased one of their monopods - it stated it was good up to 15lbs. The separate head did catch me off guard, but it was ordered and showed up within 2-days. Very light weight and I like the fact the foot can be used separately. It was nice to watch to solidify my buying decision. Thanks.
I have the iFootage Cobra 3 Monopod Pedal edition, so a model or so older than this one. I went with a different brand for the head but did go with a video head. It has been great. I usually just carry it but have the feet out. That way when I need to set it down, it can stand next to me. It is light and easy to carry. Prior to getting this monopod I rarely, nearly never, had a tripod with me so any video I decided to take was handheld. I drink way too much coffee to be stable at 800mm so this monopod makes a big difference. The versatility of these monopods is very. It goes higher than I need, I am only 5' 11", and because of how the pole comes off it goes nearly as low as a gimbal in a ground pod.
Its a great bit of kit, so versatile & light. I have the carbon fibre version, its really been a godsend. I think you’ll find that the 3/8” mounting screw also has the 1/4 twenty inside the 3/8”, you should be able just to push the outer threads downwards to reveal the 1/4” thread👌
I like the idea of a monopod, but not actually using it, or carrying it! I find that I miss shots, especially for faster flitting birds! But I do see its value. I got some great shots in the spring at a Hairy woodpecker nest with the parents coming and going. I couldn’t have held my camera up for such extended periods, even with the smaller 100-500. I use a travel tripod strap and wear mine across my back sometimes, because it’s small and light. It’s there if I need it! This Cobra looks like a cross between a tripod and monopod! Cool piece of gear especially for large primes.
Hi Brent. I have the Cobra3 monopod. Except it doesn't have the squeeze to raise it up and down thingy. Must be a new model. I'll check it out. Thanks. You don't need the long handled video mount thing at the top. The Cobra3 does that for you. Try it out without that. You will be amazed. It still gives you aiming by just relying on the swing allowed by the foot release at the bottom.
When I started bird photography with my Sony A7R III and the 200-600mm lens which is about 2.8 kgs. in total I thought that I would need a tripod with one of those gimbal heads. Bought a nice combination from Sirui (W-2204 and PH-10) that I would recommend any day because it is really good. But, but... just like Brent I still do nearly all of my photos handheld. Only if the bird is sitting somewhere in a bad light situation and doesn't move I bother to put the tripod up. That monopod certainly looks interesting but I don't do video and I'm so accustomed to a handheld camera + lens that I'm not going to switch.
Camera lady is being a bit sassy and keeping you honest and humble. 😂. I’ve been looking at the ifootage tripod as I need to replace mine. Is that monopod with the feet stable enough to do long exposures?
Brent…you might want to check out the Sirui SVM-165 monopod. I own one and can attest to its rigidity, strength and portability. Expensive, but the same features as yours. It is a pretty impressive product. Just a personal observation…not affiliated with the product in any way.
Depends on what your definition of stable is. For what I do and results that are good enough me me, yes this is good enough most of the time, even with the big lens, though it's definitely not going to be as solid as a big sturdy tripod. As far as the panning of this particular fluid head though, I find it very smooth and haven't had any issues with it supporting and panning with my 500mm.
Thank Brent for this DETAILED demonstration of how to use the Cobra 3 Strike Monopod for shooting wildlife.
Greetings to the Camara Lady makes it more funy😂❤

Much less capable at ground level without the video head.

What is the brand etc., possible cost please ?great information
@@kayhamilton5943 Sirui W-2204 tripod + Sirui PH-10 gimbal head were about 600 bucks in total.

She's always sassy...😅😜😁
I have been looking into buying one of this monopods, but struggle a bit with my finance at the moment. But give me some time....

I've heard good things about it!
Could you recommend a good gimble to go with the monopod?
I've actually never used a gimbal head.
@@BrentHall Do you think it will be something to use in the future? Or do you feel it's not needed? I'm currently undecided to buy one.
Do you find the rig is stable enough for stable video with that lens?

@@BrentHall Thanks, yes I know it’s not going to match a tripod but it’s good to hear it’s a good option
Hello
That thing looks so awkward, particularly the handle, just makes me claustrophobic.
