    Bebe is the magical girl form of the witch that killed Mami. Her and Sayaka were allowed to come back to make sure the incubator's plans didn't come true. There's a line in the movie where madoka says the worst thing for her would to be all alone with no remembering her. That's basically supposed to show us that her life as a goddess isn't a happy one. Homura is being selfish and selfless at the same time. She makes herself a villain to save Madoka from her loneliness

      the problem is that madoka was never alone , she was with sayaka and bebe , the problem is that the definition of happynes of homura is different to the definition of happynes of madoka , thats why madoka was happy but in the eyes of homura she wasnt happy and thats is why she did that , she did it to make madoka happy in terms of his own definition of happyness .
      the two have a problem of what is happyness for them . and thats is why in the new trailer of the new movie you hear how madoka and homura ask themselfs what is happynes for them.

      That madoka didnt remember nothing so what she said at that point is not his real opinion.

      The problem is that homura tell her that she will be alone and never will see his friends and family again and that is a lie . Madoka even as a god was never alone. That is what homura didnt understand.
      I know that she did it by duty but that doesnt mean that she is unhappy about it.

      This is further emphasized by the insight we get into Homura's labyrinth - that image of Madoka standing up on that chair and spreading her arms before falling and disintegrating. It's Homura's perspective on exactly what she let Madoka do and she hates herself for it.

      ***** A few other interesting things of note: Madoka and Homura's conversation on the hill of flowers is what led to her decision. Madoka never wanted to become a god, and Homura realized it was a mistake to let her become one. Also, the universe wasn't re-written in the same way Madoka did it - Homura has encapsulated it within a witch's labyrinth, which is why everything seems so strange during the epilogue.

      ***** Also, the rest of the Law of Cycles went into that huge, freaky soul gem thingy (Which you can see when the pink thread falls before Homura bites her regular soul gem to create the new one.)

    Homura only pulled Madoka from heaven because she didn't want Madoka to suffer anymore. Homura was only able to do this because her wish was to save Madoka from becoming a magical girl and/or dying. Unfortunately for the both of them, their wishes counteract one another so only one of them will be at peace in the end.

    Basically, what happened is that because Homura realized how powerful her love is for Madoka, she used that to transform herself into a concept that can undo Kyuubey's plans. Even though it looked like they had just destroyed a bunch of Incubators, Kyuubey can still respawn infinitely. So, thus, if Homura had just left things the way they were, that would've given Kyuubey an opportunity to finish what he started and invert Madoka and the others back into their witch forms permanently. In fact, Kyuubey even confirmed that to Homura when she was battling against him in her colosseum. So, that's why she became the Goddess of desire to usurp him. She knew that ultimately Kyuubey still had control over what Madokami could do. The only way to stop that was to trap Madokami's powers in her soul gem.
    Unfortunately that trapped the others girls' magical powers too, since Madoka had control over them in her God form. That's the only reason the magical girls were affected, not because of anything Homura did to spite them. In fact, the reason they're there is so they can all live a happy life as normal humans instead of succumbing to their eventual despair the way they originally would've. She did all of these changes for Madoka's happiness, since due to Kyuubey's experiment, Homura knows Madoka won't be able to be happy as a God anymore. In the end, Homura made a huge self-sacrifice. She's the one who has to live through the loneliness of being a God who destroys despair in whatever forms it comes in for all eternity, like what Madokami was doing before. But Homura is ok with this, being isolated from everyone, if it means she can make a new world where Madoka is happy and safe. She's fine with the eventual destiny of being destroyed by Madokami. It's all for Madoka.
    (That's my synopsis for Homura's actions in the end of Rebellion. All of this is supported based on statements made by Gen Urobuchi, the creator, in an interview about the movie.)

    Bebe is the human form of the witch that killed Mami in the films and TV series. Because, of course, she was a magical girl before becoming a witch. Her name is Nagisa, I believe.
    If you rewatch the cake song, you can see it's the same witch that (literally) ate Mami.

    In the end, homura wanted to make a world where madoka was never burdened with the duties of being a god. Sayaka and nagisa (te other witch that could have been a saved magical girl) were saved by madoka and carried her powers and memories for when she needed them to save homura or something. I watched rebellion 10+ times and it still isnt completely clear...

  • @VanAkita

    I think Homura took Madoka's place and technically enslaved the whole incubator race to prevent any of those events from repeating. Madoka's protection was her wish after all, so a world where she is in charge of everything and the number one troublemaker of this anime is under her control is ideal for her, no matter the lengths she reaches to achieve this.

    • @arialily6210
      @arialily6210 9 років тому +2

      Homora didn't take Madokas place, she only stole a bit of her power

    • @neitherlink6612
      @neitherlink6612 5 років тому +3

      Aria Lily no, a magical girl’s power is dictated by her wish, the more it affects reality, the stronger the magical girl will be. But witches on the other hand, are more powerful depending on what curse plagued their soul gem while being a magical girl, which in Homura’s case was unconditional love, the most intense and powerful emotion a human can feel. Thus, Goddess Madoka is the strongest Magical Girl while Demon Homura is the strongest witch, but since Homura has entrapped all of the universe inside of her, including the laws that rule it (aka Goddess Madoka), she is vastly more powerful than Madoka.

    I can answer your questions at 13:50, all witches were once magical girls, so to Goddess Modoka, there is no enemies in the high universe; or, you can say, the after world, cuz she wished to free magical girls from all timelines before they turn into witches. Therefore, no matter which magical girl or witch she designates as her secretary, they all make sense. Though I agree with you that the maker simply wants to put a cute little girl in the new episode. lol

  • @LargeOhioSon
    @LargeOhioSon 9 років тому +8

    A side effect of Homura's original wish is this arms race between her and madoka. Every time Homura failed Madoka became more powerful. It got to the point that Madoka was able to sacrifice her humanity and become a god. If Madoka has a fault it's that she is too nice. She will always sacrifice herself for other happiness, always. That's why Homura was so heart broken by Madoka's wish. By doing the switcheroo a the end of rebellion, Homura was finally able to achieve her wish. A safe, happy, Madoka that gets to live a normal life. Homura took on all the burdens of magical girl everywhere for that to happen. Also Homura is willing to be more hands on in her universe keeping characters like the incubators in check. If she didn't they would surely be up to their own tricks.

    I got a little lost first time around as to why Homura does what she does, but if you go back and watch the scene in the flowers between them she foreshadows the ending. Madoka says she could never be happy so far from her friends which is why Homura is resolved to give Madoka back her normal life, no matter what.

  • @johnnysalguerouquillas258
    @johnnysalguerouquillas258 5 років тому +2

    Homura becoming a super witch was expected, incubators messed her soul gem delaying her "salvation" Madoka took too long to purify Homura's soul gem even worse Homura saw this oportunity to keep Madoka for herself. About the karmic force that made Madoka increase her potential of becoming a magical girl on every new timeline, also increased Homura's potential of becoming a powerful witch because how much despair can a girl endure after watching her loved one die over over and over? for like a hundred times. So we have Homucifer now.

    • @uploader109
      @uploader109 5 років тому

      Plus the manga says that when Madoka rewrote the universe Homura made a new wish with Madokami instead of through an incubator which causes her soul gem to be made with love and not the hope/despair system that incubators do.

  • @tobymartin2137
    @tobymartin2137 8 років тому +9

    Madokami's protectors were Sayaka and Bebe because they were magical girls that in the previous timeline had become witches. Madoka's wish ensured that they didn't turn into witches but she took them with her instead at the end of their lives. This is also why Kyoko and Mami aren't part of Madokami, as they were killed by witches in the original timeline before they became them.

    Homera is convinced that Madoka would be MOST happy being a normal girl and not a god and so after her talk with madoka where she tried to braid her hair hair she tries everything to put her back in that form because thats what she thinks madoka wants.

    Why didn't Homura kill herself instead of becoming a witch? I got the feeling that Homura might even hope to become a witch, because technically before she did so Madoka would come to pick her up. On the other hand, if she did kill herself (breaking the soul gem), then she might even never be able to see Madoka.
    And about why she trusted Incubators with the truth about Law of Cycles, I guess it's too hard to find a person who would listen to her without thinking her as a psychopath. And in the last TV episode, she did talk to Qbey about Madoka. Though she might never thought Qbey could be so intrigued by that.

  • @StraitUpSuburbanite
    @StraitUpSuburbanite 9 років тому +3

    2 possible theories I think
    Homura definitely wants a world in which Madoka (or at least, the human part of her she knew) is no longer part of the law of cycles and can live a normal life.
    So either Homura, overcome with grief and seeing Madoka again becomes a witch so powerful she is capable of making the whole Universe her labyrinth and makes her own world within it
    or
    With her soul gem on overdrive with everything that has happened she takes Madoka from the law of the cycles and takes her powers as well. She basically becomes a deity of this world as well (the Devil to Madoka's God) and rewrites the universe so that she is part of the law of the cycles. .
    My friend is fond of the first theory, as I believe the latter.
    Also, Nagisa (Bebe), Sayaka, and Madoka are all inside Homura's labyrinth because they are aware of the Incubator's experiment and need to take care of it from the inside, and thus allow themselves to be absorbed. Nagisa and Sayaka are basically angels for madoka, keeping her thoughts and memories safe until the time was right.
    Excited to see the discussion, Peachy! Was so happy to see this vids in my Subscription box!

      nah, do you remember the scene of the fores where madoka says he could not be happy in a place alleged by his acquaintances?
      Well that's the reason, Homura loves Madoka (this is said in the scene where he rewrites the universe) but she does not want Madoka to love her, she just wants a world where she can be happy and safe.
      And possibly the reason why he could do it, was because of the contract he made with Kyubey, which was to have the power to protect her.

    HI PEACHY, I'M BACK FROM SCHOOL AGAIN.
    Bebe serves as Sayaka's back up to hold Madoka's memories inside Homulilly's labyrinth. Her human form called Momoe Nagisa (Nagisa's the first name, I'm just to used to it ☺️) is who she was before Kyubey decided to use her mother who had terminal cancer and cheesecake to make a contract. A lot of people theory that in episode 3 where we see her Grief Seed at the hospital is because she was there with her mother beforehand. She made a contract with Kyubey to share one last cheesecake with her mother before she died. That happened, Kyubey being Mr Know-it-all asked "why didn't you just wished cancer out of existence?" BOOM that's how Mami-san met her end.

    I had the same reaction when i saw the ending to this. There is another film coming out one day. The creator of this anime has explained he wishes the anime to possibly continue past his own life span. So he could have ended the anime with a happy ending but decided to go with the more controversial ending. I do like this ending because to me it plays perfectly to Homura's character. Her wish was to protect Madoka, not to save her, her wish was selfish, so it plays into her admiration and love for her on a borderline obsession.

    Bebe wasn't a witch though, in this universe (because of madoka's wish) she died as a magical girl before she turned into a witch. and because her grief seed hatched in the hospital in the original anime, it's safe to assume she died very recently and hadn't been roaming around as a witch for very long. so it makes sense that she's a recent death in the movie too only this time she got to keep her human form [i think the reason she appears as charlotte are not only as a disguise but also as a weapon. sayaka used the power of her curse as a weapon as well, that's why you could see octavia in so many of the battles].

    Damn. Skipped the Mami v Homura fight, skipped the scene with Madoka in the flower field, skipped Homura's transformation, no tears during it either, skipped most of the big climax battle... presumably this means there was no reaction there, so is Madokami's appearance the only part where you teared up?
    The biggest thing to realize about this is that Homura was the Incubator's -very- first try to control Madoka - nothing was keeping them from continuing their experiments and eventually annulling Madoka's Law of Cycles once Homura was taken away.
    Just you watch. The series end was pretty happy, this one is pretty happy... if they ever do a second season, the end will be utterly miserable, and the moral will probably be like 'careful what you wish for' or something.
    Bebe is literally Charlotte, the witch that killed Mami. Every magical girl - and consequently, every witch - is taken by Madoka and the Law of Cycles.

      They are trapped in a prison against their will. They are forced to just accept things and being mind manipulated to be happy. It's fake happiness, because Homura doesnt want Madoka to go. Madoka has been ripped apart from her true self. Homura also knows that one day The Law of Cycles and Madoka will re attach and so Homura will have to kill The Law of Cycles in order to prevent her from taking Madoka. That's why in the end Homura said "you really are my enemy" she knows one day Madoka will remember she was god and they will have to fight. Not so happy to me.

Watching the dub can help pick up the parts that at first didn't make sense in movie :) The Rebellion movie leaves a lot to interpretation, but the best thing fans can pull out is that Homura cared about Madoka's happiness so much that she is willing to become the most hated magical girl in the world. I understand that, since they know what happens when a soul gem is contained, Madoka is in danger of getting trapped again. However, she was only in there because she was someone Homura knew. Which means she would be the only one that could ever get madoka in her labyrinth.
      As for madoka's wish causing tragedy and despair, I don't see how you think that'd occur. Madoka would never become a witch, and witches are difficult to create and nearly impossible to keep alive in madoka's world.

    Hmmm Madoka became god because she wanted to erase witches (despair) from the magical girls, but Homura was trapped in despair thanks to the incubators so she became the most powerful witch and later into a demon...... or something like that, I like it.
    Homura and Madoka are aquals but with some differences because Madoka became god thanks to her wish and Homura became the devil because her soul gem filled with love rather than despair it's natural to think she'd transform into something different but a demon?

    ***** I totally understand the split reactions to this movie, but I love it.
    My personal take is that they're still now in the "fighting Wraiths" universe that Madoka made, but it's under the rules of Homura-Demon-whatever.... and since Madoka's actually still a Principle of the Universe unto herself.... I think they're going to have to go to the place of Homura and Madoka super-forms coming to some actual working relationship instead of this.... At least I hope that's what the next movie is.
    But right now I'm just deliriously happy that Mami and Sayaka and Kyoko are alive... even Bebe.... :D

    Rebellion scrambling and confusing fans mind even after the anime show. The witch animation is superb tieing with the rest also the ost ;--; don't want to get started on it. What I love about rebellion is how sayaka isn't the same like she was in the anime, so confident and likable

    I've never seen Madoka, but I can tell from the little clips that this movie has incredible surreal animation. The movie made absolutely no sense to me, likely because I was only going off of Peachy's commentary. Madoka doesn't look like it's for me, but I can definitely appreciate the work that went into this movie.

      These tiny clips are in no way a good representation of the series itself. But it's very psychological and can be confusing even if you watch the whole thing. But there's something so great about trying to understand the tragic story. And the more you watch it the more you understand it.

    Did you not watch the first part of the show ??? It will answer a lot of your questions and characters Beibei was the witch who killed Mami before... Love would turn into Obsession ..... there are a lot of deep imageries and ironies in the show ..... the creator personified a lot of what is accruing in the world in higher power and very direct take on teenagers behaviour in Japan.

    I'm pretty sure the Incubators didn't ask Homura about the experiment. Because…yeah, it'd make no sense for her to agree to it. But since she was turning into a witch, she might not have been in a situation to argue.
    Also, I'm pretty sure other comments told you, but the other witch is Bebe/Charlotte's human (well, magical girl) form, Nagisa. I think she might be in other materials? Like the manga adaptation of the show, video game, etc. So her presence is definitely fanservice (she's usually in all the promotional material with the main five)
    But I agree…this movie is pretty confusing. I'm pretty sure they intended to have another sequel. But it looks like it's not in the cards :/

    • @OathKeeperRiku07

      ***** Her tale of becoming a witch is very sad she wanted to have one last piece of cheesecake with her mom, but she could have used her wish to save her mom from her illness, and gave into despair. She might have been, no was harmless until Mami attacked her... And what's the color of Mami's hair?
      Yellow, like cheese.
      There is material on her character, so she's more than just some 'fanservice' character. If Madoka trusts the human form of the witch that killed her friend, than she trusts her.

    • @TalysAlankil
      @TalysAlankil 9 років тому

      Daryl Green Oh, I didn't mean to imply there's nothing *else* to her character. But her presence in the movie is definitely fanservice to people who did consume all the side material, since her identity or backstory aren't explained to people who only watch the series/movies.

    • @OathKeeperRiku07
      @OathKeeperRiku07 9 років тому

      ***** Well she was just a new character, no one should write her off as a fanservice character, plus this and the anime were her only appearences until what ever the post Rebellion series goes or if that new manga Homura's revenge will add her.
      Plus I hate that word, not fanserive than merelypeople whiny about it, just it's always used.

    • @TalysAlankil
      @TalysAlankil 9 років тому

      Daryl Green Um…okay? But fanservice literally means she's only here to please the fans. I didn't mean that as criticism of her character.

    I can feel your hate for the InQbators increasing. Join the club. Death to all inQbators!!!
    *AkumaHomura*: "They are all now my btches"
    I think Homura just changed the world supressing madoka's conscience about her own powers as law of cycles, so she can live normal with everyone as she really wanted (she herself told Homura in this very movie). Homura made this world without Magical girls and the curses are all sent to the inqbators... maybe.
    Last scene was the best 8D
    I agree, Bebe was just cute moe fanservice. Charlote ( Bebe's witch form, the witch that killed Mami) was the most famous and cute and people wanted to see more of her so.... they made her Mami's pet... seems legit? I dunno I see her kinda unnneccesary, unless for making Homura's quest for the truth a bit longer and give a reason for the awesome fight scene mamihomura

    Oh my goodness ... you must be not really focusing on the whole story line ...... the whole show is a Metaphor and personification of the complexity of teenage girls’ emotional state. Witches are the personification of their lives change from children to teenagers and possibly into adults. The fact that Madoka as a deity is to be hope itself and reflect to the real world as you may find hope all around you. Homura is a showcasing obsession in a teenager’s heart and how it can get overboard easily. In modern society, people get obsess with people and things easily and sometimes to lead to tragedy. Love is a blade with 2 edges - good / selfless or bad / selfish. This show whole saga is bring this issue to light which many know but did nothing about.
    BeiBei is the magical girl who turn into a witch who killed Mami. Since this character was part of the story line in the first show ... it make sense to bring her in as part of the story for you should not forget that Homura, Sayaka, Mami and Madoka were together when they encounter BeiBei. Now, in the story Homura was to invite people and things she knew and want into her world, of cause BeiBei should be there. She ain’t no filler or a random character.
    The symbolism of good and evil. .. balance of the world order. ...

      Are you talking about the movie itself? Why did you think it was incomplete?

    • @Jolomolocostroco
      @Jolomolocostroco 9 років тому

      yes, i meant the film. My point is that they made a film of a series that didnt need one in the first place and then the film has a so opened end that they could do another series that continues it (i dont dislike open ends, but making a film of a series that has a decent end and then make a film that has an open one just bothers me). Apart from that the end intself doesnt actually make sense to me, cuz why would do that? If any of us would have been Homura, no one would have done that. I think they just make a film to surprise the viewers instead of making an actual film (fanservice basically). PS: i love the series but i dislike the third film.
