the amoeba thing is more from lake water in like warm climates. there are cases of people getting it from tap water but it is rare (and the disease already is rare). it's a pretty severe problem in areas such as florida and texas - people get it from swimming in lakes. you are most likely to get it if you swim in warm,still water in the summer (however, it is super rare - most of the time, your immune system can fight it off without you even realizing). but the reason you don't put your contacts in tap water is because tap water is bad to get directly in your eyes, it dries them out and is much more likely to give you a regular bacterial infection (which is just as bad!!! you can lose your vision) than a brain eating amoeba.
