Season 6 has been pretty disappointing for me to be honest, I really tried my absolute best to enjoy this season and I thought that episode 4 was actually a very good episode and a sign that the season. was going to turn for the better. However episode 5 was so underwhelming and has left so many things to tie up in the final episode. None of the characters have been done justice. Michael, who should've been the main or co antogonist for this story, has been sidelined the whole season, the writers intentions for Tommy have frankly been all over the place; his priories constantly shift from his wife and family to his political ambition to his business ambition to his legacy at an "ordinary mortal man" and they have just ended up being messy and incohesive. The thing with him and Lady Diana was just so bad, what was the need to portray Tommy so negatively by cheating on his wife who only moments earlier in the episode he claimed to 'love'. To make it worse, with a character so unlikeable and so morally corrupt she is literally friends with Hitler lol. Very unfaithful to the character of Tommy tbh. The writers also insisted on hammering this Tommy redemption arc into the show about him being charitable, losing his appetite for killing and seemingly becoming a family man and yet they contradict this again with his cheating, lying and treatment of literally everyone in the show (family and friends alike) as means to achieve his ambition, again its so confusing and messy. I think either way they wanted to go would be fine: have Tommy continue a sad downward spiral until his death would be fine- very realistic for the way Tommy has lived and a mature and hard to swallow choice of which the writers have been known to excel at previously. Or having Tommy turn a corner and become a "good" man would be a fine and honourable way to send off one of the best characters in modern television. Yet the writers couldn't commit to either, leaving his character so incoherent and inconsistent leading to the series finale. Who could forget the cherry on the cake: the amount of loose ends leading to the finale. Revenge the on IRA woman that killed Polly, dealing with Mosley and Jack, the feud with Michael, Alfie Solomons no to mention how they plan on ending out the arcs of Arthur, Finn, Stagg, Duke, Ada, Lizzie, Billy the supposed traitor etc. Granted they could save this for the film and since the finale hasn't been released its a bit unfair for us to judge now. The fact still remains that the show was insistent on introducing and juggling all these balls, that is has become frustrating for the viewer to still not see any semblance of a conclusion to all of these plot points. In fact despite this season introducing new plots with Uncle Jack, the fascist party, the opium business, Duke, Ruby's sickness, Tommy's sickness, Arthur's redemption, Michael's story, the show has somehow grinned to a halt with more time devoted to Tommy working out every single minutia of his plans to excruciating detail instead of addressing any of these compelling stories.
