      I was curious about these and the FH5. I would only use the pair that I would settle on for use at the gym with a Fiio x1 gen 1. I could go for the fun sound of the FH5 I am sure, but it seems like they would fatigue more. A handicap of the E5000 seems to be they may not deliver as well on more structured rhythmic music. Which do you think has the bigger disadvantage...the fatigue of the FH5's frequency curve or the less fun experience of the E5000. I get this is application relevant and very subjective, but I was curious on your personal understanding of these things and which is more easily forgiven. Which would you bring to the gym more often?

    Enjoyed your review, thanks!. I was very surprised at how well the the e3000 sounded when I first bought them so had no hesitation in getting the e5000 when it arrived. There is that extra brightness at the higher end than the e3000, I would almost say a sharper and crisper edge. I have a feeling the value largely comes from the cable that it comes with. I have a UE900 and it sounds wonderful with the cable too. I think the e5000 is a fantastic deal for the price.

      Wai Siew I am looking to buy new iems and I've narrowed the choice down to these FAs and the UE 900s. Do you like one better than the other?

    • @WaiSiew
      @WaiSiew 6 років тому +1

      Joshua Glaser I actually have the UE900. I like it very much for the mids and high end, but I find the lower end lacking a bit in bass and warmth with quite a few of my music tracks. I think the UE900s was released with a different lower end tuning?
      Recently I have been switching back to the dynamic drivers rather than balance armature IEs. I find that the lower frequencies are warmer and have an enjoyable punchy feel to it.
      I think FA's higher frequencies are not as bright as UE, but still well detailed. It's non-fatiguing and easier listening for me. I can stick a pair of FA into my ears and be quite happy to listen to it all day.
      I hope you'll get a chance to try both UE and FA before you decide. Recommend sampling something with percussion, hi hat cymbals and racier music (thinking something like Genesis)

    Hiya Steph! Great video! I like the interesting cable on those earphones, I have never seen anything like them before. It's so amazing that they can make small drivers like that give off such rich, smooth and warm sound. Just by your description alone says so much about how you listen to audio gear.

    Hi Steph. First of all, I love your reviews! Learnt a lot from you.
    I am interested in this E5000, while I currently do not own a proper dap. Just using Fiio BTR3 and my iPhone. I am wondering if my setup is sufficient to drive this final E5000.
    Thanks in advance. Looking forward to your response.

    I own the e3000 and I love them they are the best in ears I heard yet I’m fairly new I never owned high end headphones is they worth the upgrade and what ways make them better in terms of sound

      Should I go for the cheaper e4000 as well

    • @MajorHiFi
      @MajorHiFi  6 років тому +5

      Heya HeGreat! It depends on what you want from upgrading earphones. The E5000 will have a more similar signature to the E3000, but executed better...it has a more even frequencies and is super smooth and beautiful. The E4000 has a bit of a different vibe... more realistic than warm and smooth. So if you want something that has a different sort of character than your E3000, I think the E4000 is a great choice. But if you want an earphone that is more similar to your E3000 but an upgrade of it, then the E5000 is a better choice. Either way, both are super freaking awesome! You won't be disappointed.

  • @abuanwp
    @abuanwp 5 років тому +2

    This E5000 sounds good and details is also very commendable. But compared to the soundstage and bass of IE80s, this E500 loose. Also the E5000 sounds small, or maybe just my ears are used to ie80s' wide sound.

  • @bklynrickel
    @bklynrickel 6 років тому +3

    The E5000 manual talks about having to clean the cable of human skin oils after every use. Seems rather impractical and inconvenient to me. Do you have any input about that Steph?

    • @MajorHiFi
      @MajorHiFi  6 років тому +3

      I hear you, Richie! Does seem like a lot to me. I personally clean the cables of my headphones about every week or two (I do so because I live in NYC and they get super grimy). But of course, I think it will be like any other electronics product ya know...? Some people are super meticulous about cleaning their phone for example. Will that person's phone last longer? Probably! But someone who cleans their phone less often will probably still have their phone for a solid chunk of time. I'd say, use your best judgement with it and clean it as its comfy for ya.

    • @bklynrickel

      Thanks for the reply. I also spoke with a guy at Audio46 who didn't consider it to be a big deal. These sound so good - better to me in fact than the FH5. I just didn't like the idea of having to baby them.

      @@bklynrickel I think you posted this on Head-fi? I literally just bought these yesterday. When I read your comment, I let out a groan because I didn't sign up for cleaning the cable every day! Glad to hear that every day isn't necessary. Cheers!

    Hey Steph! I just bought the e5000's at Audio46 yesterday (Gabby and Tony are the best) and am so glad I did! They are ridiculously smooth and rich. I'm driving them from a hi-res Bluetooth amp/DAC and I'm getting great volume and delicious sound I couldn't get from my phone. Next thing I'm going to do is get a 2.5mm balanced cable (probably the Alo Audio Litz) to get even clearer sound! Thanks so much for this video!

      which bluetooth amp/dac are you using with the e5000? I'm having a hard time finding one besides the fiio q5(which is a bit out of my budget) that can adequately power the e5000 or e4000. Hey CloudSound! I really dig the 5000 -- has a similar thing to the 3000 but really takes it to the next level detail, soundstage, and overall fullness-wise. But yes! I am dying to try the FH5 and will surely do a comparison review when I can get my hands on them.

    • @MajorHiFi
      @MajorHiFi  6 років тому

      I would say it is worth it if you want a more musical sound to your earphones. If you just want a straight replication of the mix, the e4000 will certainly do the job. But if you want something with a little more character and musicality, definitely go for the e5000!

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts! That's why I do a first impressions test and another test later. The model I had used was a demo model, so it had already been "burned in" for lack of better words. Tried it with a few different methods of amplification and conversion, so I def recommend folks watch and listen through the end of the video to make up their minds about it.
