6:05 - the part where the hint of watermarks glisten against Ip Man's lower eyelids. And you're left feeling the pit of despair which he feels as Man turns to face the roaring crowd; because - like Ip Man - you realize that the duel changed nothing. The Japanese were still there. The Japanese still oppressed their people. The Chinese people were still dying, starving and poor. Just like when he had fought the men at the dojo and confided in Wing Sing -- Ip Man felt small and useless. His victory over one general would not - and could not - save his country from the oppression of the Japanese. This scene (from the time I marked) always makes me cry. Such powerful music. This soundtrack is a beautiful masterpiece, honestly.
It only makes the moment after where he is shot by colonel sato all the more powerful, because it is only then that the crowd fights back against the Japanese troops and overpowers them. Ip Man couldn’t stop a war on his own, but he had the power to inspire everyone around him to take a stand against it.
I love your analysis, I think I feel the exact same vibe as you For me it is a simple history, but the way it is told is so powerful, I really liked your comment
I like how there are multiple interpretations of that part of the soundtrack as well as the scene it plays in. Goes to show how incredible the whole movie is. Personally, aside from incredible soundtrack and movie, I also love the fact that the composer is Japanese- I feel that by composing it, he silently acknowledged and apologised for his nation's crimes.

Ironic they would invite Kenji a Japanese to compose due to the theme
5:20 - i can see Ip Man trains with wooden dummy and beats the hell out of General Miura inside my head
Fr, he’s pretending that General Miura is a wooden dummy
