    Hey Bud, great stuff and videos well done..bring back lots of memories...I did a heap of spearfishing from late 70's- early 90's , use to make dive suits back in those days (Mitchells..US Divers) My Buds and i generally favoured a spronger as the head on our guns.....Are they not around any more as they could really take down a Kingi ?

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  4 роки тому

      Hi Vaughn, Awesome to hear, I would love to go back in time and have a spear in the 70's!! by spronger, do you mean like a very traditional spear head with 3-5 prongs/barbs? They seem only to be around on pole spears. the new setup with a 'flopper' on the end of the spear is much more successful in landing big fish as its very difficult for them to wriggle off.
      I've never used a pronger head on a kingi, Im sure if you aimed in the head region and were close enough it would do the damage, just seems a bit risky, and I don't like the idea of a fish swimming off with big chunks, holes in it missing. BUt if you say it works I should try it out!

    • @Titannz213
      @Titannz213 4 роки тому +1

      @@olliecraig-primalpursuit Yup..6 Barbs, you hit a Kingi along that spine line (Green/Silver line..or behind the eye you had a real good chance of taking out a piece of spine or vital piece. It would stop a 60-80 pounder dead in its tracks. I dived alot with a guy called Alan Langton (Google him) he worked at mitchell dive suits with me along with Daren Shields and a Spronger is all we used. Gosh after watching your videos i really miss it...wish Go pros where around then. Alan got his world record Kingi at the three Kings with a Spronger.

    • @Titannz213
      @Titannz213 4 роки тому

      @@olliecraig-primalpursuit We used them in guns, end of our shafts had a thread so we could screw on or off different heads, we found the head such as you use punches through the fish and had a good range, however unless the shot was spot on it had no killing power, spronger on other hand lost power through water alittle quicker, so range had to be closer...but our guns i suspect may have had a bit more power than what you are using, they werent as easy to load to what yours seem to..however once the sponger hit the fish the Barbs would spread like a shot gun. Unless you got a gut shot the Kingi was buggered.None of that going to the bottom trying to knock your spear out..it was over pretty quick.

    Mean vid and footage bro, subscribing to your channel, keep it up!! Why is shooting red Moki frowned upon? They're called banded morwong in tasmania and i target them frequently. I reckon it is a very underrated fish. Nice and firm white flesh, no fishy taste and versatile to cook with.

      Red Moki here are frowned upon as they are long living fish who only supposedly only have one mating partner for life. I've had it smoked once, was beautiful. I just leave them alone, are slimy and a prick to fillet etc also

Main thing is to play around with the iso and light settings as well as sharpness otherwise it can be too dark or light and very grainy looking if sharpness up too high

      Hey Jayde, it won't be your last encounter either. Can still give me a good fright even after having dozens of encounters.. Just learn to ready their behaviour. Most of the time unless you have a bleeding fish nearby in the water with you they will just be curious and checking you out. If you do have a fish on and the sharks come for it just pull it up as fast as you can, and if they are getting aggressive let them have it a d probably a good idea to move spots.. Don't be scared of the Bronzies.
