I lived on St Martin's up till 1987 so this was being filmed then . I was friendly with one of the local fishermen on St Martin's who recently passed away . I moved away because of people taking over the islands with there big money . There was a shortage of housing then when I lived there . I wish I could go back to the islands I love but it's nice seeing this film . Brought back some memories .
Thankyou for posting this video, I realy enjoyed it. I spotted a few faces i knew, Fraiser (with a beard?) Maggie & Philip on the stage and one or two others that I can't put name to. The story involving Harold Wilson was priceless. I have been a visitor for 15 years.
I think it's Mike Hicks, not Fraser. Mike used to run the Sea King and I think that was the Sea King he was next to (I've only watched 10 minutes so apologies if someone else appears later)
Very interesting film. First went to Scilly around the year this was filmed ... and still go every two or three years. Hoping to go this year and hope for the sunshine! We of course go in the Atlantic, Bishop and Wolf and the Mermaid. We have stayed at Gadolphin Flats and Golden Bay Mansion and Spanish Ledge. Such a good get away from the mainland middle England.
i guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Jayden Brycen i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and I'm trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Good to see Mike and Duncan (RIP). When I lived there ‘69 to ‘73, there was a woman who lived on Strand who had never even been to the other side of the island, she had just lived her whole life in Hugh Town. Holgates Hotel was still there then.
Hi Pete, great story. I lived on St Mary's in 2018 and Bryher in 2020. I met an 80 year old man who only left the Island once for surgery and when I asked what he thought of the Mainland he said it smelled funny and that there were too many cars. I thought it was a brilliant reply, the islands are all he needed
@@JemSquash94 . It's so true . The islands have a fresh clear smell of them . The mainland has an acid smell . I moved from St Martin's to Porthcawl because I couldn't get a place to live this was 34 years ago and never been back . Some people never leave the islands .I remember a old lady who had six fingers on both hands on one of the islands, but my memory is not to good these days . She never left the island in the whole time she was there . I guess she is buried in one of the church yards there . Times have changed .
