If there's no's history because "I do it all myself" ask how you get at the air filter. Then watch the Bull shitter who hasn't a clue!! Above all, walk away if the fork chrome is pitted because the seals will just keep popping and that's an expensive job!! Great review, thanks.
I was always told if you can't test ride it .. stand it on the centre stand or paddock stand if available and run it up and down through the gears with the back wheel off the floor.
Very helpful indeed! When I bought my first bike, we took it to the garage for a service the day after purchase and there was tons of work that needed doing... Should always have someone with you that knows what to look for!

Don't be afraid of chinese bikes, my first 125 was a lexmoto zsx, 1500 brand new and had absolutely no problems with it! unfortunately the friend I sold it to has had like 3 crashes -.- I'm crying inside..
if cold remove the radiator cap to make sure no oil is in the water (looks like milkshake) possible head gasket

My fist bike on the road was a proper lemon.
See/feel if the handlebars line up with the front wheel, this could be a sign that the bike has been dropped or crashed.
If the bike has a metal fuel tank take a look inside with a flashlight too see if there is any rust forming inside the tank.
Feel for loose wheel spokes if it has that type of wheels.
Things I learned after buying my first bike (the hard way) are make sure the brakes are both working smoothly and not sticking, levers moving and returning smoothly, and all electrics working as they should be. If I'm looking at much older bikes I check to make sure they're not burning oil and blowing blue smoke out the exhaust

Its also worth checking the tyre valves/ dust caps.... It turns out that on my first bike, they were melted/ welded onto the rubber -.- Meaning that I had to get new tyres...

Took an ITM recently , booked a CBT , looking to get a Lexmoto Venom 125 !
the two tips i would give.
1. if there is a owners forum look on there most known problems your find.
2. if you know your mot inspector ask them they see the good & bad of all bikes.
With the large number of bike thefts in the region at the moment its a good idea to make sure their are 2 sets of keys with the manufacturers name or logo on both of them (genuine keys).

One thing I forgot to do when I viewed my "new" bike...
View it in BRIGHT light, outside.
It was late evening when I went to look at it, so we did it indoors (Private trader warehouse). Artificial lighting does not do it any justice.
Got the bike home, discovered marks that looked like the bike had scraped something at some point, not dropped, but something caught the side of it.
Someone made a half arsed attempt at covering it up by painting over the scrape then putting a sticker over it.
Not easily noticeable, but easy to spot if you are really looking for it...
But hey, what can ya do?
Plan on getting it resprayed at some point anyway.
If you're new, buy from a dealer with a warranty.. likely cheaper in the long run

If you arrange to meet someone make sure it's at their home, if it's a roadside or car park then don't even turn up. Good one Spicy on doing a dvla check, was that before you even turned up to look at the bike? Ask for the reg via message or phone them? Also just thought, when ringing someone up, if it is meant to be a private sale then say that you're ringing up re the bike they have for sale, if they ask which bike then it's not a private seller.
Or they have more than 1 bike for sale. It happens. But it does bring up more questions to ask.
If you havnt done already could you make a video on general care for your bike? For plebs like me that don't know enough but dont want their bike to get damaged.
One of the things I was told is if you have a rag, just dip it in the exhaust, ideally when it's not in operation otherwise ouch, and just see whats there. If its a bit black it's relatively fine, but if it's blue or anything, don't buy it. The engine's gone and especially if you're going for something cheap it isn't worth the expenses.
best tip take an exspirenced biker/mechanic most local bike groups on Facebook/Reddit have members that will go along with inexspirenced riders to buy their first bike.
check the dates on tyres, there on the tyre...all be it small, tyres go hard after time!
Push and pull about on the panels to see if anything pops out or if it isn't screwed in because it could have been dropped or had work done behind that panel like dodgey wiring

I asked this question in your last q&a vid and was snubbed. I would say check the vin plate matches the data from dvla website and log book matches also check the fuse box for state if fuses. if theres the odd new one in fine but a mixture could indicate magic string problems. and check there are spares aswell. even though it aint the biggest problem can have you scathing your head for a while.
If the ad sez it needs new indicators take a cheap small strip of 12v led with you to check the wires are good and that it is just the unit itself takes seconds know what your buying good tips already knew but still look always learn something new some times good vid
If the person didn't bother to fix the indicators before selling it I would question buying the whole bike. Something that small says a lot
I know you were saying Spicy about the rear wheel being straight, one thing to remember folks if it's a shaft drive bike the rear wheel will be off set.

Rather by a new bike instead, had similiar experiences with used cars and seen money go down the drain, not taking chances with a motorbike.
Even for peace of mind knowing the bike's full history is something of value!
check your lights brakes and I think once you have done you try bike of road do a sign agreement saying you are trying the bike out
Going to look at a cbr600f tomorrow, taking my instructor to check it with me as he also works on the school bikes himself, like you said get others to check it especially if you don't know what to look for.

My instructor was very happy with it, no unnatural noises, started straight up from cold, great history and was very honest bike with only age related marks.
So perhaps it was ill advised of me to fall instantly in lust with my prospective Honda XL125 Varadero at first sight, test drive it for about 400m in shorts and tee shirt and no helmet on a public road in a housing estate 40 years after my last bike ride! This, after winning it on eBay sight unseen! So I was pretty lucky to get a good bike!😳🙄 Now for the cbt. 🤤😁 Just don’t do what I do and you should be fine. 😉
the first thing you should do is look at the original V5C and check the frame number matches. The V5C can be faked so ask someone you know who has a car or bike (they're the same) if you can look at theirs to see what they look like and feel like. Maybe take it with you. Also. some (most) insurers won't insure a cat' C total loss or even a D and those that do will insist you have the vehicle inspected by a qualified engineer. Not a local MOT garage. This will cost at most £200 including VAT. If the repairs have not been done to a commercial standard then you won't get insurance on that bike. Even worse will be that the bike will only be worth it's salvage value until the repairs have been done properly.
If someone has just bought a bike less than 8 weeks ago and now is selling it.
Ask yourself the question why.

Many times it’s just a way to put the price up. If you do buy the bike, the first thing you should do is replace the oils
When I bought my first bike i got a friend who has been doing motocross for years. He did all his own work and up keeping. The first one I went to was a pile of shit, but I thought it seemed good. While looking at he second bike I got my dads friend to come along dressed in his police kit with the vest, cuffs baton etc. The guy looked really scared.

What 125 do you advise me to get as I'm 21stone so what 125 do you advise to pull my butt around?
Interesting thing about tyres is you can work out the type of owner from them. Turn up and they are nylon China tyres good chance the owners dont care, if they are top brands good chance the owner cares.
I am more into cars than bikes, but the tyres will tell you alot about how they drive, how much they drive and if they care at all about grip etc ive even met some people who had winter and summer sets and even met a guy who used street legal racing tyres expensive but grip was incredible.
First bike i got arrived in a crate built it myself (pit bike) second bike i just recently got, i drove 220 there and 220 miles back to expect the bike in boxes ready to transport. I arrived and he assembled it for someone who arrived to view before me. I then had to take the bike apart by headlights and street lights on his drive as much as possible, then the forks bolts were torqued down to tight forcing me to load a full sized honda 125 dirt bike into the back of my SUV im still shocked to this day it fit.
+AntiSocialMotorist I used nylons on my 125cc bikes for 5 years they are perfectly capable for most riders. Little slippy in the wet but that's just fun on a sm.
I have never had the chance on bike tyes, but ive seen nylons on cars i have paid for. I have even had the seller take money off because of the tyre brand. Like you said little slippy in the wet is not part of the fun for me, i need my car to stay in lane. Im not doubting the "fun" but when i drive home at midnight pitch black i cant take that risk.
I picked up a 1995 Honda CBR1000F at the end of last summer - was up for £1000. When I got there, it looked and sounded pretty good. Small hole in exhaust.
Not a drop of oil in it though - might be fine, might not be (not used it yet!). Anyway, I offered £650 knowing that I could at least recover that selling the parts without too much effort - but I would not buy it just assuming it was fine. No oil, has to be a reason. Not worth risking it
And now today I put oil in it, all seems fine so far - doesn't seem to be burning it or dripping anywhere - oh, and the bike is a beast.
MOT on Friday.

Ok, so I’m in my early 50s, I’ve owned Porsches, lotuses and an r35 Nissan GT-R. I don’t like driving slowly and I understand four wheel vehicle dynamics pretty well. I’m getting very bike curious now, and I want to find that balance between really good fun and a thing I could also on occasion ride to the south of France on from Surrey without spinal column or forearm damage... what’s my first (second hand) bike?
Man so many options! I would start by finding bikes you like the look of after all it's a big part of a bike. Work out a style you like and you will find the options narrow.
spicy110 yeah I know - it’s v confusing for a complete newbie. I guess what I’m looking for is a bike 911 - built like a tank, a credible endurance racer but also a comfortable quick ride on country roads and won’t wear you out over a couple of 500 mile days...

In fact cover has caused such a backlog I don't even do my theory test until July! But 4,000 miles and a lot of thinking later, my bike desires have changed a bit. I'm now thinking CRF or WR... Maybe Tenere if I win the lottery tonight...

A very good app to check up vehicle history, MOTs, TAX etc is Vehicle Smart from the Android Store (not sure if it is available for IOS). I use it for all the cars in my family and is very useful for keeping track of when the tax and MOT is due on each vehicle.

I have seen lots of bikes after a mot history check with 3 and 4 years missing history.
Kind of obvious but check for scratches and dents
if there's any anodised tat on it get out your cross and hold it at arms length towards the bike and back away slowly...

Or...find a used bike dealer and buy from there that way if anything happens its under a warranty and you dont have to pay jack, learned that really quick, my DRZ (interwebs buy)...oh lord when i got it home to change the oil...there was none then a few days later the carb clogged had to pay for everything myself it was ridiculously expensive. Got my "new" bike from a dealer the mirror and tail light fell off the next day and because of warranty they fixed it for free! then they noticed i needed new tires, a chain and sprocket and guess what they did that for free too! Got a truck a while back off the interwebs knew it had an electrical problem and to me it was meh i'll fix it when i get home yeah...well now its in the shop because the suspension is shot the tune it had ruined the engine the control arms were bent the drive train seals were shot it was leaking...yeah never again will i ever buy anything used from some random dude off the internet...ever...
Inqu Fox That's the way I'm going. Internet buy from a dealer (because I'm unlikely to be able to go a couple hundred miles just to view the machine) who offers MOT, service and warranty with the sale. Gives me some peace of mind. I'm guessing this video is mainly focused on buying privately?

When buying a second hand motorbike.
Try and avoid buying from inner city sink estates.
Also avoid traveller sites.
Foreign immigrants can also be tricky. If English is their second language beware.
If your going used approved through a dealer, watch attractive finance deals. Particularly the ones with large final payments, they can get you for life.
EBay or any internet buy without viewing can be a disaster, too cheap or too good a deal, leave well alone.
Buying off friends can ruin relationships. Same with family.
Don't view in the middle of nowhere with Joe Bloggs, he'll sell you a ringer then disappear.
Look out for bikes that have been thrashed on track.
Finally anything made by the Chinese view with suspicion.
Check the sellers out as much as the bike and you should be good to go.

If I ever look at anything and the person says it’s and ‘easy fix’ I walk away, it won’t be an easy fix it would be something else, this kid told me the ring had gone on his mx bike but he rebuilt it 2 weeks ago hmm fishy

Don't buy one from a carpark!! It's most likely going to be stolen. Ensure the house you're at is where they actually live, ask to look at the V5 ownership document and check the address on it. Do a quick online check before you go to view it.
