    Appreciate the conituned content and honesty about kei vehicles. It's helped me focus my efforts on some newer 1999 models because a good portion of them ran until 2009 giving a younger parts list.

    i don't think the parts fiasco is limited to just suzuki. i've got a 2013 honda nbox and i''ve just ordered the wrong front brake disc pads. Looking at the part numbers online there are about 10 different ones for this make and model! Of course they complicate it with different models like n-box, n-wagon, n-one, n-van and every one has different part numbers! This is why when you go into a parts store here in japan you need to bring your shakken which has the vin, date sold and model name. I got spoiled owning old usdm datsuns. Many parts were interchangeable. Gone are those days

    So you made it back from JP. Hope the trip went well. As far as parts for the kei trucks, vans etc. absolutely it can be difficult to locate them but I think you’re right, with a little patience and networking plus anyone can source them & stuff… well most of the time 😂

      Yeah I have been considering it. I was working with someone and helping them find one. But I was doing the research and coming up with cars for them, then they were taking so much time replying to me, the cars were getting sold before we could move.. so there is a lot of time sensitive factors.. really it's just finding the time between my day job and all the projects.. maybe soon we'll see 😅

    Enjoyed the video. I've got a Honda Acty. One reason I chose the Honda was the suspicion that Honda parts are most readily available. This has mostly proven true. After a year spent on body restoration, the truck burned a valve. Honda rebuilt engine from Japan- 2295$ with FREE air shipping. After that, it's been a pretty happy truck. All the problems I've had have been carburetor related. The gasket kit, and a couple solenoids are readily available, otherwise, not so much. At present, it runs well, but if it sits a while, it acts flooded. After it clears out, it's happy. Biggest parts nightmare? The van windshield. Glass shop damaged it at the body shop. The two shops agreed to cover it. Lucky me! 1600$, and three months. One thing I found is wild swings in part prices. Seems Honda will make a batch of something, then wait till they run out. As they run out, the price rises. Found this on a very complicated center tie rod. An A/c relay was mildly challenging. On the brighter side, I've also found that some Civic parts interchange. Other thing you can get through Honda powersports, since the Acty engine is half a Goldwing six. I'm three years into my Honda odyssey, and in general, it's a lot of fun. I'm lucky to have a mini truck reseller about three miles from my house.

      @inkandpistons  6 місяців тому

      Thats a steal for the engine, good find! I wonder if you can swap to a different carb from some other vehicle or maybe that goldwing bike.. getting the jets right might be a pain but may be worth the research for more common parts. Ugh i'm dreading breaking a windshield. thats great they stood by breaking it an repaired it for you. Yeah i just found a great supplier for suzuki but the parts are coming form the Philippines and shipping is insane! most of the other stuff like fuel/oil filters and gaskets i've been able to get from suzuki bikes also. good old 660s!
      Thanks for watching buddy good luck with it.. i think i want to get a street racoon next!

      @@inkandpistons I'd probably start looking at something they used on the Gold Wing, or the performance variant they made for a while. In truth, I'd suggest that someone today just pass on the carbureted ones and get the injection. I've heard no issues with it. Then you can also get power steering.

      Not difficult, really, for florida, I have a video with the steps in more detail. But basically I have state farm I believe progressive will do it too.. and to register you need a certified translated title and a quick dmv inspection. Then just bring them all to your local tax/DMV location..

    What was the total cost in repairs?

    • @inkandpistons
      @inkandpistons  Місяць тому +1

      In regular parts I had 120 into two different fuel pumps and about 80 bucks into the computer I think. There was maybe another 80 bucks in miscellaneous parts into the distributor plugs and wires cap and rotor. So it was about 300 bucks in miscellaneous parts. The diagnostic on the car at my buddy's shop was probably the bulk of it. checking all the injectors and the fuel system only to figure out it was the computer they probably had 5 to 6 hrs in it. But we did all the maintenance fluids. I want to say all in. I was under $1,000. Which had I had enough time to mess with it myself. I probably could have knocked down to just about 400 bucks. However, probably would have taken me even longer to figure out it was the computer.
