  • Woodturning Slash pine as part of Glenn Lucas's milk paint bowl project that he assigned us to present during our Woodturning club catch-up. The piece required minimal cuts during this video, but some were not the best. I wanted to show my mistakes and how I went about rectifying them. I sped parts of the video up to make it more enjoyable to watch. I hope you like my version of the milk paint bowl. I want to be straightforward about what I know and don't know. It's crucial to learn woodturning correctly. In my tools and gear section, you'll find links I use regularly to improve our craft, and I hope they'll be helpful to you, too.

Kerry loving your videos, mate. I’m a Perth lad now living in Connecticut USA. I’m an avid wood turner and like you enjoy the craft immensely. I’ve just started my own UA-cam channel and aspire to your level of entertainment. Keep it up mate, Cheers

@@KerryCorney Been here 5 years and the most significant change is there are 4 seasons unlike Aussie where it’s mostly warm. This and that there is an abundance of different kinds of wood at the end of the chain saw. Gotta say I miss the jarrah and the pubs! See you on your channel!

Would love to hear your opinion artistic and blended functionality. I gravitate to exterior shape and movement and the inside of the vessel being functional. Frustrating in as much as judges at some shows tell me I have to have consistent thickness throughout. Have also started finishing the bottom of my stuff with a gentle roll over and platter like bottom so other turners can’t try to pick it apart looking for hidden flaws. Like you said I guess turn it like you like it yourself. Keep up the great work

I like to keep things functional, and I’m not in it for awards. I focus more on the end user in my craft. I do love going to competitions though. But, horses for courses, I guess. Cheers, Rod.

I know you have your content planned but I think it would interesting you showing how versatile the bowl gouge is. I probably use my 5/8 gouge for 90 percent of my stuff. Wife came by the shop needing a new pen so I had just sharpened the gouge so I figured what the hell. Worked every bit as good as the spindle gouge. I know you want run out of ideas and I don’t know if you do vases or candle sticks but it might show everyone the don’t have to buy 20 tools to get started. Have a great one. Appreciate you greatly

This video gave me a great idea to try milk paint on a piece of pecan wood I’m currently working on. It’s a fairly white wood, and after seeing this, I think a dark milk paint on the outside would really make the inside natural wood pop.

    Hi KC...
Woodturning club..Lucas gave y'all a project to do..ok..I think I got that right...
Are there many who follow Lucas as a mentor ?...
The wide grain in the slash pine...when you used the wire brush..did the definition between the harder and softer wood become more apparent ?..or is that just the visual from the wide grain..really made me think of 'Shou Sugi Ban'...the burning of woods to create texture and preserve by charing...lovely grain pattern nevertheless...
Are you to turn in or present your project ?...I have so many questions..lol...the lip edge..any other sealants to be used..so sorry..😁...
Great to see your work...all my best to you and the family...🌿🌿🌿

Hey Pam, yeah, so we had a project to complete before our next catch-up, which was the milk paint bowl. We then all caught up on Zoom and showed our pieces and discussed the challenges and different methods. I got a lot out of it. Yeah, so the wire brush created the effect that you described, exactly. In regards to mentoring, there are 135k people following his page on Instagram, and that's those who have Instagram.
I've got one more coat of paint to apply and two more coats of oil for the inside, then sealing the outside. Thank you so much for the questions. I appreciate it. I will be moving the Weekly to monthly due to time pressure and focusing more on turning projects like this. Makes more sense because the views speak for themselves as to what people prefer to watch.
Thank you again for the interest. Ditto to your family also.
