      Many countries still sell Obligation Titles, which are basically war bonds but for peacetime; you basically lend the government some money and they vow to return it plus a little bit more in a year or so time.
      It is the safest form of investment but also not exactly profitable.

    The bonds signed in 1940-1942 were a success. The Swedish state received SEK 2.3 billion, which corresponds to SEK 53 billion in today's money value (almost USD 5.8 billion today). The interest rate was 3% for five years. There were a lot of guns and fighter planes for that money.

    Excellent video! But there's a slight translation error at 2:23
    It's a very easy mistake to make since the lyrics are a double entendre.
    While "Täta patroner" can literally mean "sealed cartridges" in Swedish, the word "Tät" meaning "sealed" or "dense" can also be slang meaning "wealthy". And "Patron" is a reference to the Spanish word for Boss. So while the lyrics can be literally translated as saying "Come, barons and seal cartridges!" They're really supposed to be saying "Come with us, Barons and wealthy Businessmen!"

    • @BlazeLycan
      @BlazeLycan 11 місяців тому +6

      Patron in Swedish and English is the same. It refers to a person who is committed to patronaged, defined as: "the support, encouragement, privilege, or financial aid that an organization or individual bestows on another."
      Technically speaking, whenever you take a loan from a bank, they are a form of patron. In history, artists would have Patrons who support their work which is how I assume Patreon got its name. In the modern day, one could say that Patrons are mostly replaced by investors.

    You missed a little double entendre!
    At 1:39 "ladda patroner" does refer to loading cartridges, but while "täta patroner" at 2:23 literally means sealing cartridges it can also mean rich patrons, which makes a lot more sense given the context of barons in the same line.
    Just makes the song a bit more cheeky, don't you think? :)

      This song was written in 1940 to encourage people to purchase war bonds, so the war they are talking about is the second world war

    When did this song come out? That is which war were they raising bonds for? I thought Sweden stayed neutral for world wars 1 and 2, so is this a mid to late 19th century War? Maybe against the Russians or Germans? I know they lost one where they had to give Finland to the Russians but I am fuzzy on the exact dates.

      Its a ww2 song. The bonds were raised for potential war that could have happened with either the soviets or germans

    The Swedish government using a patriotic song from Norway in an attempt to sell war bonds during the European War (1939-1945), based on the sound quality and the pictures and the lyrics. How patriotic that is. 😂 My maternal line is Swedish, my Great Grandmother Naomi Estenson had a Norwegian father and Swedish mother, I’m pro-Sweden. I just find this hilarious, Sweden using the Norwegian patriotic song “Norge i rødt, hvitt og blått” during one of Europe’s darkest times in history when large swaths of Europe were controlled by Hitler’s German Reich or Hitler’s allies and millions of people considered to Hitler as undesirable and subhuman were being genocided. However, as Sweden was officially neutral during the European War, I do understand that the Swedish government and its people were fearful of invasion by Hitler, in an attempt to use the tune of a patriotic Norwegian song to help sell war bonds. Based on this, I must also conclude the tune was popular in Sweden during the time.

      Sorry but You are wrong, totally wrong. It was the other way round: Norway used the Swedish patriotic tune. The melody is originally Swedish, not Norwegian, composed by Swedish composer Lars-Erik Larsson. A few years later after the Swedish "Obligationsmarschen" was released, Norway "borrowed" the music/melody for their "Norge i rødt, hvitt og blått". Don't try to rewrite history - a little research is always good before making sweeping statements. no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norge_i_rødt%2C_hvitt_og_blått
