I'm from Uttarakhand India and my village is very close to Tibet border. We used to follow "paun" religion which is very similar to bon religion and included various shamanistic rituals and local deities along with ancestor worship and other tantric methods of worship. However, when Shankaracharya came to the Himalayas a thousand years ago, he changed the doctrine such that the local deities were absorbed in what we call Hinduism today. However, non vedic local rituals are still very popular

Thank you for sharing your informative video, I was very interested to learn more about BON as a Buddhist practitioner, and with help of your video and other source material became aware of many similiarties In Tantric practice, ritual items, & dance Moverments between the two traditions, and i am aware that Guru Rinpoche incorporated much of BON into Tibetan buddhist Tantra and Dzogchen, I can see that there are difference but also many simalarities even the way the temples are laid out, the Thankas and the Monks robes are very similar between both traditions especially between Nyingma and Bon, I dont see this as a coincidence, Guru Rinpoche would not make mistakes, therfore he must have seen much good practices which were similar enough that he could incorporate then into Buddhist tantra which was unique to Tibet..likewise though over the next 1200 Hundred years i do wonder if BON has also relearned some of there potentially lost practices back from Tibetan tantra
i'm tamang and i'm from nepal . and we too follow bon culture in our place alongside buddhism. but we take bon culture differently from buddhism. however i couldn't differentiate the bon and budhhism from the clips of your video though it was very informative. and according to your video, the bon culture followed in tibet looks very similar to buddhism which is not in our place. please make another video with further more detailed information. Buddhism went to china adapted with Confucianism and Taoism, kept their core values intact too. Trungpa took it to USA and ran a hippie cult, but core values are kept intact. Thats why Pure monk like Suzuki roshi respected trungpa.
