Great video, thank you. I have a feeder at home, but can't hold out to the peanut consumption. At least 25kg/week is unsustainable for me, 90% of which is by birds. I am going to try filling on a Thursday night and see if that will still draw a few in for my weekend shooting..
I've really enjoy these videos. Recently a bloke knocked on the back door and asked if I wanted 8 leg of venison for £120, I said " that's too dear. ". Sorry, I couldn't resist. I'm actual a plinker only.😀
Sound advice from a experienced pest controlar!!! Great video and editing welldone sir!!! Not shure about the Zeiss at that short range,? Anyways thanks for the tips👍
HI matt great video as always just thought i would let you know about our shoot .Myself and a friend have been shooting squirrels on an estate for the last two years .WE only shoot them in the winter months from mid october to mid march last year we had 105 squirrels and this year we had 112 .It really is great sport and its also reducing the damage to the estate gardens.
Totally agree Nigel. The feeder I bought I simply cut a square piece of thin plastic out of the side of 4 pint milk container and duck taped it like a flap over the nut tray. It works an absolute treat. Squirrels simply lift it with their nose and the rain doesn’t get into the nuts. I hate it when my nuts get wet! 😂
Excellent Matt. Another tip I was given is to site the hopper on a tree which catches early morning sun if possible. Not always possible, but worth considering.
I always mount my feeders when possible on a tree so I can shoot north, this prevents any lens flare thru the scope. Plus this means you can shoot early morning or late afternoon.
Just curious, do you eat them. I can never cook aqirrel right. But I do my best to eat them. Because my Grandpa loved hunting the big squirrels we have in Texas, pecan orchards.
Great video as always and Thanks for the tips. Here is South Africa we don't have too much of a problem with Squirrels but we do have a lot of doves and pigeons. How would you go about baiting or feed areas to hunt doves
Hi Mat, another great video. Just wondering what is the best way to dispose of squirrel corpses if you are not putting them in the pot?? Also, what are the current laws about dealing with destructive squirrels in private back gardens? Thanks
JND Fishing Providing you either own the garden or have written shooting permission (backed-up with shooting insurance), then legally you can shoot them with an airgun providing you can justify that under the general license they're causing destruction locally. You must also ensure your pellets don't cross the property boundary (else that's "Armed trespass"), you must not shoot within 50ft of a road, and ensure any neighbours who overlook the garden are aware of what you're doing. If in doubt call 101 before and afterwards, so the Police are aware and they don't need to attend if someone calls them. Hope this helps, cheers. Russ
@@jndfishing4693 Happy to help. The bit re informing / reassuring your neighbours is to keep everything tickety-boo. If someone saw you aiming a gun and felt threatened by you that's actually an offence too, so best inform them and be a good neighbour. Obviously you also need a big enough garden and a good backstop. Cheers. Russ
Great seeing ya Mat, that impact hits hard. I love mine in 22 cal. There nothing but pests chewing holes through trash containers. Crack on mate… Tom LI NY
Hi Matt, really enjoyed the video mate, you make it look easy but I know a lot of work goes into what you do and you do it well my friend, keep on rocking baby 😆 atvbDave
I had 13 of these sods in my garden , they got in my roof and kitchen ate my cooker wires they are now gone , thanks to a bait station and a good nature trap
That is the reason I got one of my perms. The owners were getting greys in the loft and wall cavities so they rang me. I’m still taking greys off the garden feeder and am over 100 now. On my videos you can see the hide setup and the feeder shooting in the tree area of the garden.
Another great video Matt, I shall be hitting the “bushy tails” myself this weekend, keep them coming and let’s hope that certain “tv” people don’t add the greys to their “ objection” list 👊
I shot a squirrel yesterday in the garden I pumped it full of lead the gun I’m using isn’t for hunting but did the job.I went to remove it the next day and it’s completely vanished any ideas it was 100% dead.
Great video. I can shoot pigeons, Corvids and bunnies but I just can’t bring myself to shoot squirrels for some reason. I know the damage they do to trees and our indigenous reds but I just can’t bring myself to do it. Oh well, we are all different I guess.
@Pete graham your comments are either being deleted because of their blatant vulgarity or because you decided it makes you look silly... or both. But you are losing your mind Pete, ever since you had to delete your original account 🤣
Pest control is not technically sport but it's also a practice some people enjoy at the same time. It's legal and also the method used by conservation projects and charities like the RSPB (the biggest wildlife charity in the world). It's infinitly more humane and effective than trapping or shooting them 'on the run'.
They are an invasive species that need to be controlled as they kill trees and are detrimental to indigenous species. This is far more effective and humane than traps or poisons, which can lead to a slow death which no one wants.
I love this squirrel video ❤ 🐿️🐿️🐿️🐿️
Great video Mat... thanks for all the tips this episode. See you in a fortnight
Thanks William.
You'll see me shooting the new feeding station in the next episode. A few squirrels have arrived...

Fire extinguishers are also brill as a feeder Cork the top with wood and make a platform at the bottom with a cut out. We'll u can work it out...

Yet another enjoyable video and useful tips 👍
What is the best squirrel feeder to use and where can I find it? Great video, by the way!
At 2:48 is that allen bolt under the picatinny rail on the FX rusting? Looks like it to me.
It is, Paul. It's not easy to get at to clean, and I am guessing that dirt/water got in there at some point.
All the best. Mat
Nice. Wish i had my Own FX, but i have no Hunting licence and in germany you need one for rifles with more than 7.5 joules

@Broad Side yes, have a camera on it. Lid is secure! Crows, Jays, magpies, and loads of song birds 🐦
@@rwdkai Broad Side is saying put a hinged lid over the hole where the peanuts come out......not the lid where you fill the feeder.
@@MrAlphafang ah, ok. I can certainly try that. I did reduce the size by half of the tray and opening. Thank you.

Great video 👍...The lid on that feeder is too short...rain water will drop into the feed tray.... something the "venders" should alter. 😉

Dose it need to be a gravity, fed feeder, or can it be one where they have to lift the lid

Do you use a sub 12 for the squirrels
Those squirrels were an itchy lot today. Fleas?

A brilliant video - the owl tip is a particularly good one.

How many yards away is that bait station your shooting at?
Hi Mat, another great video. Just wondering what is the best way to dispose of squirrel corpses if you are not putting them in the pot?? Also, what are the current laws about dealing with destructive squirrels in private back gardens? Thanks
I used to cut the tails off and give the squirrels to an Owl sanctuary, I also used to give them to some chaps who had ferrets
I give the greys I shoot to a friend who has hawks so none go to waste.

not a popular hobbie, but IT did teach me how to shoot and be humane about it.
I mean, were those squirrels bothering anyone? It just seems like they were living their best life in the woods.
I only use wheat and shoot around 220-230 from October- April and never use a hide . So all depends on permission

Dint kill squirrls.....just kill rats and rat with wings....
Please don't kill innocent animals

That is baiting might be legal were you are but here its illegal and imoral and unethical
Murdering squirrels looking for food is just cowardly and not a sport at all.
