- Freda Payne & Belinda Carlisle "Band of Gold" live performance
Lyrics:
Now that you've gone
All that's left is a band of gold
All that's left are the dreams I hold
Band of gold
And the memories of what love could be
If you were still here with me
You took me from the shelter of my mother
I have never known or loved another
We kissed after taking vows
That night on our honeymoon
We stayed in separate rooms
I wait in the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness filled with gloom
Hoping soon
That you'll walk back through that door
And love me like you tried before
Now that you've gone
All that's left is a band of gold
All that's left are the dreams I hold
Band of gold
And memories of what love could be
If you were still here with me
Don't you know that I wait
In the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness filled with gloom
Hoping soon
That you'll walk back through that door
And love me like you tried before
Since you've been gone
All that's left is a band of gold
All that's left are the dreams I hold
Band of gold
And the memories of what love could be
If you were still here with me
I wait in the darkness of my lonely room
Filled with sadness filled with gloom
Hoping soon
That you'll walk back through that door
And love me like you tried before
Big ups to Belinda Carlisle for letting Freda do her thing!..Respect is Beautiful
Freda still looks and sounds gorgeous here!
Freda Payne looks FANTASTIC
I think Belinda was very much like the rest of us during that performance by Freda Payne, just mesmerised. A huge talent, ably supported by Belinda Carlisle.
Spot on! Kudos to Belinda for taking the back seat and letting Freda do her thing.
Belinda looks like something that has been in the the backseat too many times.
This is what celebrating Her-story month is all about. Real women, supporting real women.😊
I love belinda, here she is pretty and nice, but I have to recognise that in this performance is freda a wonderful singer, incredible, great and a golden lady, so smart and amazing
Freda Payne wowww. Charismatically and beautifully sung
Freda is killing it. That outfit is fire.
two of the best people that I had the pleasure working with when I cut this track..
John Luongo
awesome. It was my fav on BC's first. Bought the Gold Vinyl 12 inch too.
@@davidlindsay9564 A younger fan base was introduced to Freda Payne through Belinda Carlisle. As part of The Go-Gos, Belinda Carlisle has won induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for 2021. Induction ceremonies are not tentatively until October 30. Public voting occurred on vote.rockhall.com from February 10 through May 7. They originally were going to end the public vote on April 30, but decided to extend it. I thought they could have gone longer, but at least Belinda got in. Congratulations to Belinda Carlisle.
I met Freda in 1995 when she toured with the Broadway show Jelly's Last Jam-sweet lady.
what a beautiful Freda Payne make up, I love it. What a wonderful voice and performance.
17 years after she had the Band of Gold hit, she sounds and looks fantastic. A beautiful woman and a great voice. Though I like Belinda Carlisle. Ms. Payne does not need any help from her to sing this classic.
wouldn't be there if not for Belinda re-making it.
@@davidlindsay9564 Yes, so true about that.
@@davidlindsay9564Belinda or any other white artist wouldn't be there if black people didn't create rock and roll

Love you Freda! What a gift to music!
Both ladies so beautiful and talented!
Freda is a Diva!!! WOW!
no one does this song like Freda Payne and she is the original so no one else does it like her shes stunning and those vocals spot on. beautiful vocals and appearance just awesome all round.
Love them both
Awesome how she took an original sad song and made it catchy and poppy. Awesome!
Freda is the original singer of the song nitwit.
Freda got better as the years went by. A classic lady.
If times had been different, Freda Payne would have been a superstar like Whitney.
Freda rocked that dress of gold.
She was a great singer
Love Freda Payne. One spectacular looking woman!
Come Through Queen Freda 👑Stunning
Love them both..but this is just Freda's song...memory lane..age 13 listening to this on my old radio in my room from WABC radio station from NYC...lived in NJ at the time. So young...so many dreams for the future....then I bought the 45 lp with my baby sitting money, my Mom bought me a $5.00 record player at a yard sale...I would listen to this song for HOURS...upon HOURS...lol
that just means you are old.
No, it isn't just Freda's song. She didn't write it, she only sang it, but Belinda did a remake of it. Freda was hogging the stage!
Although I was only 2 when this first came out, I remember it like it was yesterday...LOVE THIS TUNE!!!
FREDA, can still rock and she looks great.. 1-17-2017
Gosh Freda looks so GORGEOUSLY Young!!
Belinda...underrated as a singer...underrated in her own mind...as every bit as good as the girl backing her up....
Girl backing her up? Are you serious? That girl is in the spotlight. Belinda is backing her up, and believe me she can't sing anywhere near as good as Freda Payne!
@@magneto7930 You are right, I actually love Freda Payne and this video got me interested in her, and in my defense, I was drunk, lol...and I don't drink anymore. I think I was just being a smart ass. Freda Payne is a better singer, but I also still enjoy Belinda. Peace be with you in these crazy times, I'll probably end up deleting those texts but they do make interesting conversation.🤔😃...check out Freda's version of The Three Degrees "When will I see you again." It's really good!
No worries, if I had a dime for every comment that I wish I hadn't made I'd be quite a wealthy man today!
@@magneto7930 🤣...yeah it's a shame stupidity isn't worth more!

Love u Frida beautiful best song of the 70s.
Reminds of my Navy days. hot
This would be a awesome house music remix with a strong baseline track
LOVE This! And, Love Freda! :)
Always a cutie Freda!
Damn Freda!!!! Go baby girl!!!
Woah Freda , she’s pretty!
Sweetie God bless you sweetie I luv ya performance and thanks the song
Actually Belinda did record her version of "Band of Gold" for her debut album "Belinda"... So she did know this song, and it became a big hit on Billboard's dance chart.... I think she was being gracious in allowing Freda to do the lead vocals and not her.... Considering in 1986, this was a Belinda Carlisle single....
Seriously? Its FREDAS song. Freda was gracious enough to allow Belinda to even sing it..
It’s Freda song. 🤦🏽♀️
@@blackheartbev3098 No its Holland-Dozier-Hollands song with Ron Dunbar. She doesn't own it. Freda didn't "allow" nothing. I'd say pulling a one-hit wonder out of obscurity by remaking a tune she recorded, and asking her to sing on it with you when you are one of the biggest stars on the planet is pretty nice. When it gets picked as a single you insist that the sleeve have "featuring Freda Payne" as big as the title. and then when it becomes a hit in the UK you fly her over with you and when you perform it on TV, instead of being a diva and regulating her to just her part on the remake, and you pretty much take a backseat to let her shine, and sing lead, when its your record, and your career, and you graciously share that moment. I'd say that's the definition of "help". Ask Freda which she likes better.
@@padmere No its not, she didn't write it.
@@davidlindsay9564 it’s Freda song. She brought it to life. 😳
Love It!!!!
Me too!🙂
Such a lovely song.
I get the chiver ' on my back. ♥️
Great song sweetie 💜💜💜
Just a very classy lady !!!
Love it. An old favorite
Stellar
Freda's really having fun... :D
Again I won't stop until I get the black woman of my dreams.
Freda...hot!
Freda Payne another one hit wonder getting every ounce of juice from the orange
That’s funny
Better than a never was.
so good to see this 😊
What year?
Look good too
rejoice Freda Payne is alive & well she has upcoming events in 7-2013
Have just seen this for the first time. A great performance from both Freda and Belinda. Very gracious of Belinda to step back and give the whole performance to Freda even though she had released her cover at the time. They looked a bit uncomfortable towards the end as I think they wanted to finish a little earlier but the supporting band kept on going!
The background music should be that of Belinda's version so I think that caused Freda to skip some beats in the middle and I believe she got too carried away in the ending and suddenly realised it was near the end.
Simply Irresistable
Belinda Carlisle's tombstone:
"Now I'm gonna help her out"
😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
They rock together
THIS VERSION WAS RECORDED ONTO LASER DISC. I HAVE A COPY. YOUR QUALITY IS BETTER! THANKS!☺
belinda is just blown away by frida
I always thought the original was too slow. You can see how much better she performs to an up tempo version.
belinda simply cant compete
Try competing with a screeching and howling black woman and see how that works for you

@ 00:05 Freda doesn't need your help Belinda.
YEAH I KNOW! she look good as the girl with whom she's sing.
Go Gos era Belinda was one of my teenage crushes (although she is still gorgeous here as well). However, she's out of her class here!
Belinda was not long out of The Go-Gos here. She was in her late 20s and going through a lot of personal muck. Check her autobiography for that. She is 63 this year and just won induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of The Go-Gos. You go Go-Gos girls! Beautiful music and beautiful appearances.
Why she stuck to the chorus and ad-libs, it's still freda's song. If not for Belinda re-making it Freda wouldn't be there either. Love both 💓💓
Lol, Belinda came In too early, and Freda covered. You can hear Belinda go "now?" And Freda goes "Now!" Lol.
Freda is oly there because of Belina. I'd say pulling a one-hit wonder out of obscurity by remaking her tune, and asking her to sing on it with you when you are one of the biggest stars on the planet is pretty nice. @@davidlindsay9564 Belinda Carlisle was only in her late 20s when this was made. Freda Payne was older. The new and the old blended together was a good mixture. Belinda was going through a lot of personal issues during that period; her autobiography is very candid about that. She was/is a true professional and is an icon of the 1980s and captured the attention of even Johnny Carson on his show at the time with her green hair story. That is on UA-cam and she seemed so down to Earth and put together at such a young age in an industry that is easy to get lost within for many young artists.
♡
Belinda could've done so much better but I think she was absolutely starstruck here. Beautiful all the same.
Freda Payne is so stunningly BEAUTIFUL!!! One of the many reasons why Black Women are the Most Beautiful Women in the World! #NubianQueen #SoMuchSoul&RnB *_*
Beautiful X 2 Love it!
how old was Freda here? Not that it matters she still makes me want to lie on the floor
perkyporkpie I wanna kno too
her mid 40s.
I think it would be awesome dancing up there with them
Your so Tina Turner sweetie 💜💜💜💜
Why didn’t she let Belinda sing more. Not sharing. She needs to watch Diana Ross and Mariah Carey that’s how you share a song
No Belinda, Freda’s gonna help you out, let’s get that right before we start.
Freda’s voice actually has deteriorated a lot since her early performances. Still worth listening to though.
She looks like jasmine guy from different world right here
Chris Farley brought me here...id much rather watch him tbh
Obviously the key was dropped to accommodate Belinda. Freda's key is higher, but kudos to both ladies!
Nah just kidding she's about 40 here probably early 90s.
86 she's in her 40s
Unless you're in the Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin league of singers, don't share a stage with Freda Payne or you will look bad for sure.
Or may I add Ann Wilson of Heart? Not to many can keep up with her. Her voice hasn't hardly changed in 50 years.
ChorltonM21 she wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for Belinda. Belinda was hot then and freda hadn’t released a hit in years.
@@tblightningbolt8902 Thank you. these ignorant comments on here. Belinda covered this on her album and brought in a whole new generation for forgotten Freda.
@@sxnico Freda likes the BC version better, said she herself sang better than she did the first time.
@@davidlindsay9564 She was being very candid about that. Belinda was super hot at the time and Freda needed a lift.
i love Belinda Carlisle songs but this one :/ idk im use to Freda singing it .
I know this song for belinda
The one on solid gold had Belinda singing more
i love this song. freyda is beautiful. rip
ann vasconi she’s definitely not dead
First among equals
hot
The band seems to be. in the wrong key. Freda did it in G major originally. Then F# later half step down. But this is an awkward Key and even at the beginning, the girls knew something was funny on the false start. E Major would be Sung too low, for both girls range..... or as it was, it put it higher than the song should have been. and Belinda was lost.......... Freda was a pro and finished the song like a champ..... I just bet the band got a good talking to after the show like, WTF DUDES.....
"Wrong Key boys in the band ...Wrong key......grrrrrrrr. G MAJOR NOT E , G MAJOR" !!!!
Band got their pay docked. :))))(
Legend has it this song written about rich gay man. That got married for a cover up.
Freda slayed that performance. Poor Belinda just got lost in the music.
She let her have the spotlight.
As much as I love Belinda, I'm not sure Freda needs the help there. ^^
Belinda had given Freda help, or she wouldn't have even been there. Belinda did a remake, but she let Freda take over here.
@@jessiem276 Well maybe the crowd could've gone to a Freda concert instead then. P.S Happy New Year! :D
Tell you who needs help. Belinda’s hairdresser. Looks like she just woke up
Belinda looks exactly like a young Ann Margret. Anyway both were hot.
They look like they enjoyed that
Sorry but the audio is horrible.
She's better singing it alone
where? in her apartment? 1986 is not 1970, BC is ther reason Freda is there.
@@davidlindsay9564 It is funny how you stated that, but so true. It is hard to believe that the distance from 1986 to 2021 is more than twice the distance from 1970 to 1986. 1986 was so modern...at the time. I feel old. The time has gone by too far too fast.
There's an even better Freda and Belinda video here
ua-cam.com/video/vViM00YVCu0/v-deo.html
Freda is certainly dressed to please the guys on this one!
Belinda was so gracious to let Freda take center stage ....she probably needed to pay some bills lol...
maurice williams no, because unlike you, she respected Freda as a legenda. Just because a black woman gets older doesn't mean she's impoverished or should be kicked to the curb.
@@w.a.watson3078 Wow. racist much?, you assume that someone why is impoverished must be black.? or that that is even what was meant. A one hit wonder who hadn't had a hit in 15 plus years might be glad for the recognition and cash flow.
@@davidlindsay9564 You are right, I was being an ass but it had nothing to do with race. I was drunk, and most probably just trying to be antagonistic, and I don't drink anymore. I haven't in several years now. I love Freda Payne and have responded to a few other replies. Check them out, and as I said in another response, peace be with you in these crazy times. I pray we come together, and learn to celebrate each other. Vote, kind sir, and vote wisely.
I plan on deleting these texts, but I would like people to see the response, I regret that caustic behavior.
how to ruin a brilliant song. Just look at the original Freda giving a perfect performance. This is such a pity.
This was a favor by Belinda. Freda was irrelevant by then and Belinda was at her most popular. You can tell she's not amused playing backup singer, though. She was a good sport to even bother.
nope. She flew Freda over and GAVE her the spotlight. Label people weren't happy as it's Belinda's single, with Freda as guest, but she wanted Freda to get the spotlight.
@@davidlindsay9564 I know this was Belinda's favorite song and she was pumped to have her, but I just can't imagine THIS is what Belinda had envisioned. It's so one-sided that it just looks awkward.
@@brandon.lewis. They did it a few times on different shows, and some BC is more active, some not as much. I think it may be based on where they are. Solid Gold it was US, and BC is more "there", as she was promoting the lp, but in the UK. Freda had more hits in the 70s, and BC was really big already, so she let Freda shine more. Plus it could just been a mood thing. If BC had a gig and 10 interviews, and Freda had the energy, let her run with it. BC can be a mercenary type for sure, but in this case she's being generous.
@@davidlindsay9564 That's interesting, I wasn't aware. I only know what I can dig up on here. I know she promoted this song and she released I Feel The Magic (which I think flopped, correct me if I'm wrong)..Seeing as you know your stuff..Tell me if my timeliness is right...Go-Go's burn out..she gets sober (briefly) and bursts back on the scene with Mad About You..then lost momentum..nervous times..releases Heaven makes her a superstar..runaway horses does OK..US popularity fades out rapidly but UK/Aussie support remains steady to this day..
@@brandon.lewis. pretty much. band of gold was a dance club hit first, and then they tried for push on radio. Go-gos tried to work on a 4th lp, but only one song was even worked on written by Janes replacement in go-gos, paula Jean brown she lasted one gig, but got charlotte into rehab. Char got pulled into to work on BCs solo lp. IRS screwed up and let BC's deal lapse, and MCA snapped her up and gave her the big push for the Heaven LP. Jane couldn't make it, but rest of GoGos sang on BCs third lp. Char formed trio The Graces, with a then unknown meredith brookes. then Go-Gos have been off and on since, only one more lp though. And BC records solo here n there.
Oh my decisions decisions
Im sorry I like Belinda Carlisle but she should of sat down..she didn't hardly sing and I don't think she knew the song..cuz Freda just went with it SING FREDA..do ur thing
Belinda let frida sing this song because it's a song of frida. I think it's a beautiful gesture

@@davidgarciafernandez2794 Belinda had recorded the song for her own debut album. Freda was the guest artist here, not Belinda, even though Freda had the song before her.
Neither one even close to a "Legendary Lady". They should have left them out and added Connie Francis and Dusty Springfield.
It's too bad they forced Freda to sing it in Belinda's key of E. The original by Freda was in the key of G -- much better suited for Freda's voice. The key of E is too low for Freda, and she had to improvise to make it work. Nice energy, but it could have been so much better.
The BC record they both sound great.
