Planting a Foxtail Palm Tree in our Backyard Florida Garden.

- Today we are planting a triple Foxtail Palm Tree in our backyard, making it the first and only palm tree on the property. Though we live in Florida, we try to explore other plant options available to us instead of utilizing the same plants we see everywhere around here. This particular flowerbed is on the north side of the house, and doesn't receive direct sunlight to the entire bed, so this Foxtail Palm is the perfect solution, as it will grow straight up into the sky, and not lean or stretch towards the sun. They will reach heights of over 20 feet, bringing the great vertical interest to this space that we needed.
Thank you for tuning in to today's project, and we'll be back soon.

Palm tree im Florida? Ground breaking! Haha! It looks amazing! Great work guys
Haha! We figured we needed to add a hint of Florida to the yard, lol.
Good job, but is too near to the roof.
You planted a fishtail palm not a foxtail palm , there is a difference.
Hi, we planted a Foxtail Palm, not a Fishtail Palm. We just posted a Timelapse video where you can see how it’s doing and you will be able to tell it’s not a Fishtail Palm. Completely different leaves and growth habits. We would never put a Fishtail Palm that close to the house 🏡 Hope that helps 🤗
Is that too close to the house? I want to plant one like that about as close to my house. I was worried they Foxtail palm might get too big.
Planting a Foxtail Palm Tree
Bro is it 3 plants combined or another species of 1 plants having 3 branches
wear safety glass when using a reciprocating saw, and also when using any other kind of saw.
How the tree doing one year on?
It’s doing very well, we just posted a Timelapse video where you get a peek of how big it’s gotten 🤩
Beautiful tree looking right at home. You two do such a good job with soil prep, root removal, and planting methods, making this a great teaching tool for novice gardeners. Your landscaping is coming along nicely, and the structural elements are spot on. Can't wait for the color and the razzamatazz I'm sure is coming. Tasteful razzamatazz, of course. I mean, you're...you, after all.
Thank you so much for all of the kind words! We appreciate you following along on out journey, and are excited to share with you all of the changes coming to the garden this year!
Hey how’s it going ? I see you like beautiful tree planting videos so I’m going to leave you a link to one of our live oak tree plantings we just completed ua-cam.com/video/Vd79CxCq7Ds/v-deo.html ..This is the first step to a full property transformation: including pavers, rock driveway, sod, irrigation & much more…If you like our channel make sure to subscribe…Thanks for watching 🐢🐢
Does cutting out a tree root cause the tree it came from die. I have a tree root growing toward my foundation and was told by a friend NOT to cut it, but it’s interfering with my pavers. Your yard is beautiful and will be amazing when you finish.❤️
Thank you so much! It really depends on the specifics of each situation, but this tree will be just fine. These roots are far out from the tree base and there are many other roots to support this tree. Not to mention, the rest of that root on the side of the tree will continue to grow and support the tree.
Cool video! 🌴 You guys make it look so effortless. Tree looks good in that location next to the pavers. 😊
Thank you so much! We’re loving the new addition to the garden and how the leaves shimmer in the sun from the wind. 🌴🙌🏻

this is a fishtail
Though it looks very similar, it is not. Fish tail palms have separate rectangular leaves on their fronds. Google images shows great examples of the differences 👍🏼
Great job thast looks amaizing 😍😍😍
Thank you! 🤗 We love how this space is coming along and look forward to sharing the progress with you!

Great job guys!! The Foxtail Palm looks great in that location. Can’t wait to see your spring flowers! 🌸🌺🌻
Thank you so much! We have just ordered a ton of new plants for this space, and we are excited to share the progression of this project with you all.
Looks awesome! Isn’t it a fishtail palm?
Thank you! They look very similar, but fishtail palms have more of a flattened palm frond than the foxtail palm.

What zone are you in? I’m in Houston and I’d love to have Fox tail palms.
We are in Zone 9b. I think Houston is 9a so you might be able to pull it off, even though they are zone 10 and 11 😳 I think the lowest they can go is 27 degrees before they get any significant damage.
How long does it take to grow? I brought 6 foxtail palms from home depot and their all about 3ft tall each
When provided the right conditions, Foxtail palms can grow between 2-3 feet per year!
@@MrGardeners thank you for commenting back😄👍
Of course! Happy to help. Thank you for watching!
Tampa! How did Ian go for the palm?
Between the hurricane and one of the feral cats, we lost one of the 3 palms, but the other two are doing great.
Will it not damage foundation
Very unlikely that it will cause any damage. Palms have many roots, but they are thin, so we should be okay 👍🏻 also, we heard they stay the same diameter for the life of the root. We shall see 😃
I love your videos!
Thank you! We appreciate your support and kind words!
