Strange things happen around the lab on All Hallows' Eve!
Check out this mysterious flame I was able to create with just a regular lighter and a lunch box.
Solution now posted! • Solution: Halloween My...
Congrats to those that figured it out!
As u guys can also see , its the lighter which is changing pointing direction , and get deeper and deeper , this means the lighter was inside a layer of gas which does not support burning thus the fire staying at the same level , the fire changing place because the direction of gas flow gas been changed , these are evidence for my guessings are reasonable , CO2 is already dense enough , and its cheapest and most easy to obtain , also CO2 is enough for this to work
It's a lunch box previously used for filling dry ice , when it vaporises it leaves the lunch box with full of CO2 gas , which is not flammable , since the butane gas in the lighter is lighter than CO2, and CO2 cannot support burning , when the lighter is moved towards the gas , the butane enters the CO2 layer which does not support burning , but soon floats to the air and was able to burn again , thus it seemed that the fire has been away from the lighter , but in reality is the butane .....
I'd say it's liquid nitrogen at the bottom of the "lunch box" and therefore the box is filled with uncombustable nitrogen.
CO2 generated with dry ice , this is the most simple and practice way to do so , also its not possible to hold aluminium foil boat on a gas unless the gas is moving up wards
Maybe it is flammable but burns cool enough that the flame is invisible. Hydrogen perhaps? I think it would have to be flammable for the flame to continue after being disconnected from the lighter for so long.
yeah thats what i was thinking too, but the fact that the lighter is normal at first and then changes back and forth makes me think theres got to be some gas in the box that is more dense than the air or something along those lines. Possibly the ink is put on the lighter in such a way that it only activates the trick when its tilted at a certain angle. idk
lets say a little thing called CO2 in the lunch box same as if you light a candle and leave it over a bowl then put it out by pouring the "ghost" in the bowl over the flame.
I think there is a gas in the box that is unflameable and havier than air.
If you look when he points the lighter down the flame gets farther away from the it, because the fluid is going down, bring ing the flame down
You can float an aluminum foil boat on a pool of sulfur hexafluoride gas, or any other sufficiently dense gas. Buoyancy does not require movement of the fluid to work. ;)
Burning in another path, this works because CO2 does not support burning. And butane is lighter than CO2
i think that box is filled whit some Noble gas, like Xe or Ar. If It's true, you can make a boat of aluminum foil float.
The souls of dead animals millions of years old.
Its ink from a pen
CO2 doesn't seem dense enough to stay settled in the box and not get caught up/mixed with the jet of butane... so my guess is probably something heavier. Sulfur hexafluoride immediately jumps to mind but might be too exotic a material (maybe not for mrhomescientist, though!). R-134a seems a good candidate and is easily obtainable from "canned air" dusters, and is more than three times denser than CO2.
I think there's an innert, heavy gas, like the sulfur hexafluoride
its not baking soda and vinegar or co2 because they replace oxygen and oxygen is needed for fire to burn i have done this without a lunchbox hell ive done this out on the street its the pressure from the lighter when you tip the lighter sideways the pressure increases
some fluid(Gas or liquid) that is preventing the flame from burning right next to the lighter
CO2 is fine , even the butane is mixed up with CO2 as long as it has it contact with air it can continue to burn , the key that the CO2 surrounds the mouth of the lighter , and the burning can't be supported and butane find its way to do so.,...
The box is filled with Sulphur Hexafluoride (SF6)
The lack of air
theres no 02 in the box so the flame wont go down in there thats why it stays above the brim of the box
A heavier than air, non-flammable gas, likely CO2, in the lunch box.
Lighter fluid can't combust without O2, you must have filled the lunchbox with some kind of dense and inert gas.
A gas heavier than air, probably CO2 or N2, maybe SF6.
lunch box has xenon in it... any heavy inert gas really
I thin, you filed the Box with CO2 ore some other heavy, non burning gas.
burning oxygen in lunchbox, flame moves to oxygen in other areas and burns it.
SF6 is heavier and denser than air so it stays in the case . I want my gift now .
good morning, if in fact I thought lunch box is empty, I would guess the lighter is spitting out more fuel than its burning nice too much fun
My theory is that there is a gas that doesn’t support combustion in the lunch box.
my guess is that u have hade frosenj co2 aka dry ice in the box and couse it is a heavy gas it has staid down in the box thuss preventing the flame from burning
There was some sort of asphyxiant gas in there, which suffocated the flame. My guess is CO2, but it could of been anything like argon or xenon.
A gas heavier than air. Then flameable gas goes above and the fire ignites it.
There is another gas in the lunch box that is heavier than the gas in the lighter so the gas from the lighter goes to the top
Fire is going to oxygen.
Is that ice cold water? As the gas hits it, it get colder and so dose not light so easy and travels a little to get warm . Thats my gause, Cheers, Pete.
filled the lunchbox w/ co2
Baking soda and vinager
I think that thers a withe plank that we cant see
U just put ink on the tube beside the flint easy
It could be carbon dioxide or sulfur hexaflouride, since they are denser than air
I tink baking soda and vinegar
I'm gonna go with that.
why would he try putting a lighter in a lunch box anyway?
Sulfur hexafloride.
Jep, box is just filled with CO2
Some sort of natural gas?
Carbon Dioxide.
CO2 is full of the box
The word for today is "Inflammable"
Sulfur Hexafloride?
Dry ice . Not
Don't use that 100 year old balonga
its filled with some kind of gas?
N2 would be less heavy than air right?
C02 from dry ice
co2 maybe
lunchbox full of co2 or sf6?
It is the power of the dark lord
Carbon dioxide?
a gas
what!? i am confused with that it might be the lunchbox and the lighter being tilted on a side my brother is confused to? what!?!?
Nice!
lol what kind of heavy gas ar you yousing?
nitrogen?
so ein teil hab ich auch... wie oder warum es aber funktioniert weiß ich nicht, kann mir das irgend einer beantworten?!
magnets
I'm going to say CO2
Xenon or carbon dioxide?
lol ink?
2 spoopy 4 me
CO2 gas
Co2 nice
Ladislau L LOLOLOLOLOLOL
What was he doing with the lunch box? lol
co2!!!
it Is haunted :|
Idk and idc
I think its sulfur hexaflouride
