omg love hippo campus didnt think anyone else really knew them also thank you so much for this video, even though its like 3 years old. hoping to start fall 2025 and ive been binge-watching videos like these :)
Hey Max, thanks for the UMN content! You mentioned going to a job interview. Are there any jobs that you would recommend that give you time to study on the job? Perhaps front desk jobs?
That's such a good question! There are countless work-study jobs at the U, and almost all of these should allow for some studying. One specific job that a friend told me gives a lot of free time is working for M Tech at the bookstore, although there don't seem to be any openings at this time. As you mentioned, front desk jobs, along with other administrative work, are good options too, and there are a variety of such positions available. This website is a great place to find them: hr.myu.umn.edu/psc/hrprd/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/HRS_HRAM_FL.HRS_CG_SEARCH_FL.GBL?Page=HRS_APP_SCHJOB_FL&ACTION=U&FOCUS=Applicant&SiteId=5 Sorry I can't give any more specific positions, but the amount of time you'll have to study will vary based on employer and position, so ultimately the best advice I can give is to ask about this in interviews and see what response you get. Hope this helps, and feel free to ask any follow-up questions!
Yeah Welcome Week can be pretty overwhelming, and it can take a while to settle in if you're from a smaller town/school, but as long as you're prepared for that it should be alright - plus there are lots of introverted people on campus and plenty of more low-key ways to get involved with things & have fun. I hope that helps a little? And best of luck this fall!
@@maxapritchard yeah... that's pretty true...am also joining on this fall ..and was told I have a 3 day orientation....can you plz explain a little bit of wats like on the orientation days*?
@@francismwangi6936 We didn't get orientation this past year due to covid, but the U's website says that "you will be placed into a small group with an Orientation Leader who will lead you through your Day 1 activities, where you will learn about life on campus, meet other new students, explore campus resources, and spend the night in a residence hall. On Day 2, you will meet with an academic advisor from your college and register for your fall semester classes."
I'll definitely consider doing a video on the St. Paul campus in the fall! I've only visited it a few times, and while I prefer the main Minneapolis campus, St. Paul has some strengths too. It's so far away from most of campus that getting there is inconvenient and it feels somewhat isolated, but most people seem to like the campus itself, and the fact that it's less busy that the Minneapolis one could definitely be a plus for some people.

Could you make a video comparing St. Paul and Minneapolis campus? Which do you think is better?
