man you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear all the signs that you guy actually know what you are talking about. a lot of history channels on youtube just find the first blog post about the topic they are making a video about and go with that, its often easy to see their information is skin deep. So when i hear you refrence the more historically accurate names, events, etc. its brings me no end of joy to know someone out here cares about making real historical content.
I just love this channel. Been searching for some coherent and complete documentary on piracy for two years at least. Just decided to look up something related to piracy and saw that video (although I've been subscribed to your channel for long time). I got so hyped and went like how come I haven't seen that documentary before. Then looked at the publication date of 2 months ago. Thanks a lot for covering this topic! I can really vouch for the fact that that's the best documentary about piracy out there
Great video. It has to be said that despite its not being historically accurate, Black Sails is a wonderful show about piracy. The blend of historical and fictional characters gives it quite the plethora of colorful characters, and the cast knocks them all out of the park.
Um the ONLY accurate account is of few of those who actually lived then, like different camera angles, those from the center of the action. EVERYTHING else is someone's version and speculations

I live in la Hispaniola, it is sad and a shame that piracy is rarely mentioned. But there an event called "Desvastaciones de Osorio", or just Devastation of Osorio, where the spanish basically forced everyone to move away from north, to ruin the smuggling/trading with the buccaneers

I love pirate history…. But damn were they scumbags. This was a really great documentary you put together. I enjoyed all of it. I love how people can watch a whole video about how pirates were notorious for raping, pillaging, robbing, and slaving and still be like “man I wish I was a pirate”
Most pirates were poor ppl who choose to live a life of danger on the high seas, instead of living in shit like their poor peasent forefathers, they were brave ambitious men at heart and ppl respect that, they were enormous risk takers, who were ruthless in nature, predatory in mindset and ferocious in combat, basically an elite calibre of outlaw whose domain was the unforgiving sea These guys operated and lived in a level of freedom unthinkable nowadays, like Somalia on steroids
This is my problem with people who glorify vikings too. Do these people find what Russians are doing in Ukraine right now cool too? I understand that vikings had cool aesthetics but that's about it (and let's be real, even the aesthetics probably aren't nowhere near as cool as movies make them look like. Also, nobody will be playing Heilung in the background while you're commiting war crimes).
I live in The Bahamas and we learned a lot about the age of piracy of the New World in history class. Watching this brought back a lot of memories. Only took google spying on me throughout community college to learn my interests… One thing I really like about this video, and I don’t know if it was intentional, is that it sort of parallels the history portrayed in many of the Assassin’s Creed games.

Why is it that when pirates are the the subject Dutch pirates barely get a mention. The Sea Beggars who kept the Dutch Revolt alive, Piet Hein who is the only person ever to capture the Spanish treasure fleet, The Dutch Barbary pirates who ruled the Moroccon Republic of Salé and various famous Dutch buccanneers like Roche the Braziliano deserve some attention in a documentary like this

Camels were introduced to Egypt around 700BC through the Assyrian invasions and occupations. There were no Bronze Age camels in Egypt of any significant number.
I think you missed a great chance to mention about Hyruddin or better known as Barbarossa to the Europeans. Man who controlled almost all of Mediterranean, the King of Algeria, Captain that rivalled even the greats like Sulaiman the Magnificent and King Philip the second of Spain, Fleet Admirals for the Ottoman that challenged the coalition of Spain, France and Italy and came down at the champion. Barbarossa is a legend.
