The works in town have been going a long time now (since january's floods at least) and ive passed by a few times and almost never see anyone working down there. Maybe its slow cos of funding.
Neither I nor anyone in my family works for the public service. I agree that flooding will get worse with global warming, but hope that at least in Clonmel we will get fewer floods on town when the flood relief works are finished. If Antarctica melts, sea levels rise by about 70 to 80m and Clonmel will be under 30 m of water. See youtube video "sea level rise in northern europe". Live in Clonmel? Chances are your house will be underwater. But then Antartica is not going to melt. Yet.
These floods do not happen every year. The last serios flood was in 2004, and before that, about 2000. Works are presently underway to solve this problem, under the control of the Office of Public Works.
