I love watching your videos. I have bound books, but they are usually blank pages you give me the courage to try a “real” book.your methodology is flawless but a bit intimidating, but I’m getting my mind ready to try.🤞thank you very much, you make an older lady try something new!☺
Thank you kindly. When I was learning bookbinding I used to make blank books, too. So you should definitely move on to real books. This kind of binding is a bit advanced, you can try case binding first. Good luck!
(obviously i dont know what you have going on haha but) give it a try! a couple friends and i just decided to do a bookbinding day of our favorite fics soon. Give it a shot! there's a great tutorial by Jess Less I'm following. I'm excited to be able to hold it in my hand once it's done, done well or not. It could be rewarding for you too!
@atlasvellichor but she's just ripping off her old books and making new covers? she doesn't do real book binding so it's not really a helpful tutorial. or maybe I can't find the right video
@@user-zt4qr7mz4f ua-cam.com/video/y3jae1cuvSo/v-deo.htmlsi=ikhtMNGNFwulnNx0 I'm following this tutorial. There's definitely binding in here. Either way I'm sure there are loads of tutorials out there if you look
I’ve been wondering, when you start the video by opening up the pages, do you order them to be printed? I’ve formatted my own books before and printed through LuLu, but lately I’ve been thinking about binding a book myself. Are you printing the pages yourself or using a service?
Hello! I just want to say that the work you put into this is phenomenal!! I absolutely love Manacled and want a copy bound and thats how i found your video 😂 I was wondering if you could answer a quick question for me pretty pleaseeeee?? In the beginning it looks like you tie off uour thread every two sets of folded pages, is that right? Also im wondering what thread would be used? Thanks so much in advance!! It would probably take me eons to do this but i would love to try slowly! @CattleAbductionBookBinding
Hi, thank you for watching. about sewing - your make the kettle stitch every time you add a new signature (set of folded papers). It looks different when you make the first two signatures, but after that you make it every signature. I would suggest using 0.3-0.5mm thread.
Hi! Im looking into getting into bookbinding (did one book didnt turn out terrible but I wanna do better.) What materials did you use for the grey piece you slid over the paper(?) and what kind of paper/material is one the cover. Also where do you get your leather?
Hi! Can you clarify what grey piece? For the cover I use 3mm boards, calf leather (buying locally) and decorative paper. Good luck with your next projects!
@@bookbinding the grey piece at 9:00! Is it two of the 3mm boards partially glued together or a separate piece all together? Also do you have a particular brand you use for the boards. I'm never quite sure what to order for the boards. -thank you :)
@@loki6827 Ye, those are two boards 1mm and 2mm glued together. This technique called split boards binding. The best ones to use called davey board. But any other will do actually.
Hello! I love your content. I am going to try to make the three book set. Looking at the files you offer, I was curious how you print it. I'm planning to do it at home. Are the files set up to print in order front and back for the signatures?
I think I made a mistake in my bookbinding research. I printed the first book out, but with regular printer paper. Will it hold up in the bookbinding process or will I have to reprint it with different paper? Any advice for a newbie like me is appreciated 😂
it's called rounding. After this step book gets its round spine, it helps to distribute spine swelling and make book's thickness even. It takes a few hours of pure work and a lot of idle time.
@@bookbinding Your vidoes are so peaceful and watching your precise work is so inspirational! I'm new to book binding, just bought all the materials and then realized I love manacled and have wanted a physical copy. (thank you so so much for the typeset). Do you have any places you like to use for printing? Or if I use my own printer, do you have any suggestions on settings or programs to use? I have a mac, and just did a test run and I can't figure out if I need to print in bundles, or long edge/short, etc. I've tried researching this and I think its over my head. Thank you!
@@eeWeddingPhotography If you're using my typeset then you only need to print it double-sided - flip on the short side. Then fold printed signatures - 4 sheets per signature.

This process is mesmerizing to watch! I would sell my soul for a bound version of Manacled. Thank you for sharing with us ❤

I had this strange idea that one day I would make my own copy but after watching this I guess I’ll never own a copy 😂

I want to learn to bind books just so I can have a physical copy of Manacled, but I’m a teacher so I don’t have time right now. Maybe one day though!!
You can do it in your free time. Give it a go. Good luck!

regular copy paper isn't the best option, but still usable. @@karsynmaley8418
How many papers did you count out before folding them? I want to bind this book but im not sure how many pages should be in each segment.
4 sheets per signature is optimal for me
Hi I just wanted to ask what type of paper did you use for the pages?
I usually use Dowling paper
Rewatching and commenting again haha why do you do that with the hammer at 5:00? And how many hours did it take to bind it?
it's called rounding. After this step book gets its round spine, it helps to distribute spine swelling and make book's thickness even. It takes a few hours of pure work and a lot of idle time.
Where/how do you make/get those little golden stickers at 10:30?
it's called HTV ( Hot transferred vinyl)
Is there a reason why the paper is applied over the leather instead of the leather being applied over the paper?
Yes, leather's edge isn't as tidy and straight as paper's
Where do you download the book to print that way???
check the description
