Can't imagine wearing PFD under turnout. You can't know if you are going to fall to the wather and wearing PFD on every call near water....Interesting tho
Question 1, if a kid were to get his or her arm stuck in the diving well drain of a pool since he or she is around 12 feet of water and can’t get up could you use the SCBA for the time being for the victim? Question 2 you are fight a fire in the wilderness you come across a rattle snake and it bites you will it go through the turn out gear?
You will. After it gets soaked and the air escapes. But for a little while the PPE will trap air, and you will float for a little while. So I was told.
wilderness fire fighters wear fire gear thinner then structure fire fighting gear. its thinner so they don't over heat so that is a very good question. I used wilderness fire gear on a hay fire it works well b I do not think it will protect from rattler bite. but that's my thought don't hold me to it I could be wrong
You can tell just by watching how uncomfortable that must be trying to swim. Thanks for the video!
You theoreticlly could, provided you could get the call, get your gear on, get to the location, And get someone in the pool within 35-40 seconds.
as a fire fighter it is comforting knowing that should you fall in that 1 you can breath and 2 you can float
I was taught if you had full PPE on you'd sink, odd.
Yeah, I'm gonna take the time to put a PFD on while I'm putting on my bunker gear...

this is good thing to know. Im in the Junior fire dept. and we just had a meeting on SCBA. so this is a good thing to bbring up
newer SCBA cylinders have a tendency to float, which counter acts the sinking from heavier gear. If using an older style cylinder, that would change.
Just for clarification, how well will you float with SCBA and no PFD?

I agree with you completely.
