HBB videos make me feel a type of way! Big fan! 😍😍can’t wait for these
Ouf I cannot wait for you to do a review. I wanted to get these as my first Moondrop set and it would be killer if it could do double duty and replace my x Crin for gaming.
Thanks bro!!
@@flashjor98 Try a Starfield or KATO for your first Moondrop. Much better tuning.
@@Assimilator702 I kinda want a planar but someday I'll get the variations
My man is in the house!
Been waiting for this review
Crystal clear is 2 words to describe em.
Wanted a planar iem that is better in the details and soundstage vs my beloved 7hz Timeless. The S12 was too shouty for me so I maid a bet on the Stellaris and waited for it. There was some hype, than some hate started (I do not say the review is negative - it is a well done review with pros and cons). Now the Stellaris is with me for several days and I do not understand the complaints! The sub-bass and bass is better than Timeless - better extended, detailed textured. The mids and vocals are also very detailed and crazy clear. The highs are detailed, airy but not fatiguing to me. My only 'dislike' is that female vocals get a bit more shouty but not that shouty like S12. The beauty of this set will be understood by people that do headphones like HD800s, T50RP, Stax 007...
The deep fit is a must, otherwise you do not balance the highs - it is a bit of a challenge but not worse than Etymotic; foam tips are recommended (a must); powerful source and preferably a balanced connection.
Which has the wider soundstage? The S12 or the Stellaris?
@@RTR-96 do not keep the S12 and cannot do A-B test. By heart - the Stellaris. It has a wider and deeper soundstage vs Timeless, which I keep.
I have a question, are planar driver I.E.M.s suitable for use on an Android phone? I've heard they need more power than other kinds of drivers to perform well.
This looks nice and all and 'cuz i don't really mind "excessive" upper Treble with lean-ish Bass, but i'll wait for a DD + Planar Magnetic Hybrid, hopefully for less than $200.
The hobby is moving at break neck speed right now. Good times
What does lean bass even mean? What does DD stand for?
@@suly6654 Dynamic Driver
Foam tips help transfer bass better. Thought for a moment he was going to show a comparison graph.
@@JohnCiaccio Yeah, Foam tips (to my mediocre knowledge) help you get a better seal and that helps with isolation and Bass response; can't stand them, though.
Better than the S12 or Ze Tian? Also how would this compare with the Moondrop Kato? Thanks again, HBB!
WU bass is snappier S12 is more intense in vocal for me. Stellaris only shows it's up top energy with cymbal crashes and some distortion pedals in my listening
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews Thanks! I currently got the Kato, and how would the Stellaris compare with it?
@@ankuro22 how is your experience with KATO so far
@@vitaminprotein325 Kato has been amazing for me. Its microdetail retrieval is insane. The bass is enough and perfect for my jazzy, bossa nova, and vocal-centric music. The vocals are the best, the texture of their voices is really there. You feel the breathing, the huskiness, and many more. It never sounds sibilant unless the song itself is sibilant. I'm sensitive to those 's' and 'sh' sounds so that's really important with me.
Oracle mk2 spotted👀. Will be waiting for your review on that!!
It is coming🙌
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews I have a feeling this will be the new tribrid king
Very detailed first impressions of a detailed set ;) I'd be lying if I said that the shape didn't have me worried for some time after these got teased. Also, the paint on Stellaris will probably be chipping if people aren't careful enough, just like with Starfield. This being a detail best is actually intriguing, but I have a used S12 on it's way currently, which I snagged for ~100 USD. AFAIK it's pretty detailed and technical set as well.
S12 is also intense but more so with vocals and guitars...neither is a relaxed set
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews what do uthink about kato ? bad ? or good please let me know
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews s12 vs stellaris for micro detail?
Does it sound like the Helios in the 10-15k region? Helios is my fav set… dope video 😮
Thanks. This is more intense than that set actually
Have deeply appreciated your excellent planar reviews. Got the Stellaris because it seemed well thought out and the price was right. Wouldn't have done it without your reviews.
These are wonderful ear buds! What I was looking for was something that would accept equalizing gracefully for some of the various types of music I love. These do. I listen to a lot that's on your list, plus some other things.
Let me suggest a couple of test tracks a bit off your normal tastes that I find useful:
Classical Organ: Jean Guillou (Dorian label) playing the last track of Pictures at an Exhibition. This track can sound like a muddy mess on anything that can't handle really deep base with clarity - but it's recorded very well, so it's there if the playback can handle it. (Olivier Latry playing a recentish recording on the great organ in Notre Dame, may it soon be played again, is a great contrast because it's a very bright organ - plus it's also capable of very deep bass. It's also quite hard to record, as are most cathedral organs. Being able to listen at a good volume without pain and with good separation of the various registers is wonderful.)
Classical Harp: Yolanda Kondanassis, first track on her album "Sky Music." Telarc caught this intimate playing perfectly. You can hear the different attacks she has on her strings, including brushing fingertips. There's also tapping on the harp body. Amazing recording, and so revealing of good playback. Requires musical high frequencies and much more.
Jazz: Holly Cole, "The Train Song." Has huge acoustic amplified bass combined with Holly's incredible voice and tinkly little percussion high frequency effects. Playback has to be able to handle it all in the intended balance.
The other thing I always test are some opera recordings, including some favorites that are just painful to hear due to some poor mastering - unless it's EQed.
Note on the organ suggestions and my personal tastes: I'm a bit over-sensitive to some frequencies. I love hearing organ music with the bass turned way up and as loud as EDM - it's more like what it is to hear nearby and live. The Moondrops can handle the abuse well.
Should I consider this over the Kato? Thanks for the vid 👍
This is brighter.
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews Wonderful. Thanks 👍
Between the Kinera Celest and the Stellaris, which one would be worth the money. My library is almost like yours.
The graph doesn't look as bad as the one Moondrop showed in the product description.
That being said, this looks like it's going to be too bright for some folks.
Yeah, up to trebs it is fine. Bit energetic but that's an audience
hmm I purchased these on a whem. as my puppy chewed up both my cables for Kato an Tispy iem.(could of just got a cable from linsol but couldn't help but buy an iem as dont have a planar ver. yet)
an i listing to music alot lower volume than most people so hopefully will like these. I did wanna get the Dunu new planar but the Moondrops is cheaper an they replaced my MoonRiver2 for free
If you turn it down naturally these will like be great for you. You will not suffer any doing that. It's a very clean replay
Thanks HBB! Will wait for version 2 then.
This should be almost the opposite of the QKZ+HBB which I love. The punchyness and bass make that one incredible. Drumsets feel live on it even without a lot of detail. It's hard to pin down. Waiting on the Stellaris. Always wanted something from Moondrop and the price is very acceptable considering the quality Moondrop is known for. Hopefully this will displace the Dioko which has a bit too much treble intensity for female kpop vocals.
If you’re looking for a good introduction to Moondrop go for the KATO or Starfield.
@@Assimilator702 I know most are well liked. I choose the Tanchjim Oxygen over the Kato/pro back when Moondrop was very hot. Really enjoying the collabs and planars right now though. Finally the companies are getting IEMs tuned properly. Great time to be in the hobby. Imagine hearing some of these incredible cheap IEMs 5 years ago!
@@JohnCiaccio What we have in the $100 bracket would have cost $500 to $1200 5/years ago. That’s for certain. My most recent iem is the S12 and it’s very well tuned. I a,so purchased the Olina SE since I love my modded Olina so much. I’ve thought about getting an Oxygen but not sure if it’s worth it. I would love to compare the O2 to the Olina that’s for sure.
@@Assimilator702 Love the O2 great airy soundstage but lacks impactful bass and fit is difficult because of the short stalk.. It weighs a lot for it's incredibly small size. HBB says the driver is capable of good bass. Might jump on the SE sometime.
Great video. Would you say that this has better resolution than the Timeless, S12 or even the Blessing 2?
Yes to both
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews Thanks! Wow, that’s impressive. Now I’m even more tempted to get the Stellaris… 😅
Suggestion for a reasonably priced add-on device to any planar: Qudelix 5000 DAC (USB C), Bluetooth Receiver (huge selection of codecs), that can not only put out truly great volume, but it supports balanced output (parallel DACs), and most importantly: You can make presets using an incredibly sophisticated set of EQ options. This includes separate EQ settings for each ear if, like me, you've got a hearing notch in one ear. It supports a 20 band standard EQ plus parametric, and you can save presets for each.
I'm not currently using any truly high ohm headphones, but I'm sure it could handle anything. And it's almost as small as the older FiiOs.
With so much music coming from sources, through devices, that don't have convenient EQ ability (or often even a headphone jack), it's a life saver for someone like me.
I also tried their cheap (except shipping) ear buds that plug into both the balanced and unbalanced plugs and then use the device for an electronic crossover that you can adjust. They sound good for what they are, and I like the engineering elegance.
This really makes any planar sing with all the custom presets you can save for various kinds of music (and ofc multiple other playback devices).
Thanks for the review. Ordered this set after the ZeTians I received were faulty (sadge).
What software did you use to expand the spectrum analysis of your music file?
looks a lot like AnthemScore
Big up HBB and super thanks for the info!
No probs
i dont get it, what is up with this planar driver, why do you say that it is not a custom driver?
Is it having the grounding issue? like the static electric or possibly a sting; since it has metal housing
Hi HBB, nice video how always, what do you think about the "BGVP Scale"? Thanks 💋
Thanks. have never heard of it
Which is better, Stellaris or Kato? Planning to buy a Moondrop on December
I own the KATO which is amazing. I would bet my $$$$ on the KATO.
In Planar Wars, could you say that this is the Empire Strikes Back? 🤔
John Williams music is awesome by the way...
I could do that
I would say the Letshouer S12 would be the Empire Strikes Back. It really can’t be beat.
@@Assimilator702 Cool! Let us then hope that next HBB's planar collab is The Return of the Jedi!
My point was: Given Moondrop's recent market dominance and consistency, they are kinda late in the planar wars, they are Striking Back just now.
A quick tuning would solve all the problems you described, wouldn't it?
Maybe a little different to the other similar priced planars but that's not necessarily a bad thing.. I'm gonna have to get it.
Does it scale well with some power? Thanks as always!!
Sounded better off my ADI than my Sony so yeah, good clean power is not going to hurt at all :)
Do you have an S12? I have an S12 so I don’t see any reason to own this one.
Dunno, i was debating to buy the new S12pro though
Both intense. this driver seems better
Do you think using DD and BA and Planar instead of EST as a tribryd for better treble highs?
Could be. Planar doing mids and or Bass seems best
I believe the clear tips are softears uc tips.
I believe so
Great. You know that we are waiting spider graph:) more details than Dioko?
Yes, more details and better SQ than Dioko
HAH ignore my comment that I made yesterday. Thanks for the video Chris!
I might have missed it ..un intentional ignore or forgot
HBB would love your opinion - I'm using the mele as my daily driver at work , i listen to music whilst working for many hours , edm , lounge and pop mainly . I want an upgrade in the 150-200usd range- at home i have the hifiman he400 on which i listen to classic rock and jazz. What I'm looking for in the upgrade is a lot more of that technicality that the planar has whilst still being fun and warm with a bit of punch. I would get fatigued with shoutyness and sibilance . I'm not able to zero in on what my choice should be - I've been looking at this entire range of new planar iems, am i on the wrong path should I be considering a DD or would one of these planar iems work for me in your opinion
I think you are looking for Raptgo hook X
Why not try the Olina SE? Olina after mods is BRILLIANT! Olina SE should be better tuning than modded Olina. Don’t use $$$ bracket as a measure of performance.
How are the technicalities? Especially the soundstage compared to the Wu and S12?
I own a timeless (has the same technicalities as the S12) and for 100 less than the Timeless and 40 less than the S12, this is more technical than both. Truly an amazing set
Wondering if I should pull the trigger .. thank you for the video..
No prob. Thanks for watching🙌
gonna be taking a peek at the new kz planar?
I think so. They were supposed to send it but ...maybe no😁
Would this be an upgrade from the 7hz timeless 🤔
Sidegrade, unless micro detail is the main point for you/ then i would say it is a slight step up
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews Thanks for clarifying. What would you consider as a good upgrade to the 7Hz timeless. I've had fit issues and experience fatigue wearing it..
@@RakshitNew jumping in here, I had the Timeless and now have the Wu Zetian. I consider it an upgrade in the bass department, about even everywhere else but that's from memory.
@@acroyear23 thanks for your recommendation. How would you rate it's comfort, i was pleased with the timeless but it wasn't meant to be used for prolonged duration..
@@RakshitNew I'm wearing it right now. It has a standard iem shape with a medium length nozzle. The iem itself is medium sized, not small, but not large. I use spinfit cp100 to get the nozzle longer.
i ve been waiting for this, thx
Np
I was just waiting for this
Hey man did you sent that set of oracle mkII to fresh reviews? 👍👍
October 1st? No.
Could have been a pre recorded vid man but all sweet 👍
Hoping you include the raptgo hook x again in the next planar wars against this!
hey man, i wonder how does it compare with talos dunu?
Not a fan of Talos. Weak bass IMO
so, a bit of eq might reduce the amount of possible fatigue?
yup,
Awesome! Thanks for the quickness
No prob. I'm sure these points will not change. My opinion anyway.
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews I trust your opinion more than anyone else in the game. Thanks again🤘🏼
Ya think a sammy(samsung phone) can run the Stellaris?
I have not had one in a while I'd hate to spout B.S., I'm not sure
Get yourself a Samsung dongle, just to be safe.
That graph doesn't look any good with that peak. It must hurt really bad... people tend to believe that more upper mids means more details. That just distorts the original mixing and create an illusion. But unfortunately some people seem to fall for it.
Very intriguing indeed. I don't mind me some details
You will have all of the details with this set. ALL OF THEM
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews sound like one to add to the collection for when the vibes call for it.
Unrelated question. Do you find shoutyness or siblance more of an annoyance, or just hand in hand the same
Also REALLY looking forward to an Oracle MK2 review from you
Did I see the Oracle MK2 in your desk?
Between TImeless and this, which one should I get :) ? I only have a Chu, thinking about upgrading
Timeless all the way, but this one is pretty decent budget upgrade from chu
@@librast thank you, they are almost double in price, I will wait for another review to validate this before I make the purchase :)cheers
5:24 reminds me of the hd25 with plastic vs aluminum cups, the treble was so much better on the latter
I would prefer a dense cup/shell to a plastic one and that goes back to the headphone bass days. Just something about plastics and reflections that are chaos not suffered by metal housings
Nice review by the way brother
Thanks bro
Isn’t Softears a division of Moondrop 🤔
I believe both companies share technologies, but are two different companies.
Thank you for making the review
what do you use to display your music on your pc?? what pc program is that?
JRiver is the music library software.
Thank you
I like this layout
If that monster fits in a person's ear canal comfortably...it makes me wonder what other activities that person performs with that ear orifice, other than simply listening.
is it hard to drive ??
No, it went off my Sony phone with no prob and plenty of headroom
Now I wait for spider graph, if it beats Zetian Wu. God I hope it doesn't chip.
The praises for resolution just might get me to grab it tho. For now I wait. I gotta have patience since I'm broke lol
Money limits..limits options no doubt. Spider graph in Planar Wars 9
Waiting for 1 planar 1 DD 1 BA and 1 EST headset
Not likely to happen
Those aren't spring tips surprisingly. Softears UC tips
Yup, I shoulda mentioned that correctly🤦♂
God dam it, I just bought zeitian yesterday, I wasn't sure when the starlaris would be realeased , my bad
You should be fine. WU TANG!
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews WU tang 36 chambers.... that was such a incredible album back in the 90s and still is :)
Hope we get Hbb planar on planar wars 10😁🙌
Me too
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews That the spirit 👌
Review the Mojo 2. It has a lossless EQ which could come in hands for some sets that need a bit or slight adjustment in the bass, mids, and even hot treble regions.
I know my opinion is odd, but when I saw the graph at treble, it remind me of IE600, and not surprised. It's like moondrop kinda try to archive like IE600 with their Planar. According to Graph, there are some similarity between them with a touch of Shoeur S12 Formula, This will be interesting to see and my next consider purchase list at the end of years, Stellaris or S12.
Why do they even bother with the pulled apart diagram like we're gonna know or care for any of individual bits that are in it lol. they're like 'look how much stuff we used this time isn't that so cool and worth a lot of money?'
If you are going to keep using the spinfit cp100 you should at least upgrade to the cp100 plus it's made with medical grade silicone instead & overall is a bit nicer also why do aduiophiles recommend the azla sednaearfit xelastec Phthalates are added to TPE to make it more flexible, but they can also be harmful, Studies have linked phthalates to hormone disruption, reproductive problems, and even cancer. But not a single person in the aduio community has mentioned anything about it I'm only bringing this up because you had them set up as a bundle with I'm pretty sure the mele
Spinfits CP100 and Alza have never been included with my tripowin collabs for the record
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews there was a bundle on linsoul's website when the mele first came out for preorder to pay a bit more and get it with a tripowin jelly cable and sednaearfit xelastec
Slap an Olina filter on it???🤔
💥 Oh hey now..
thought about pulling the trigger on this one, especially due its smaller size, but that upper treble boost is insane. any sibilant recording will certainly make your ears bleed
Idk about smaller size, the nozzles look giant.
Yeah it’s a no go for me 100%.
Looking forward to another planar war!
stellaris planar looks a lot like what kz use in pla/pr1
They are all quite similar now. Not sure if Moondrop made this driver themselves?
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews i doubt it
wow. you so fast with this earphones
it's good points are clear (no pun intended)
I found this while looking up the game
Thanks Much !
No prob!
I just think they are too big. Feel like they will just keep falling out of my ears. Might be a skip from me honestly.
Those things are way too big. Would look goofy in my ears. I’m sure others sound just as good (Letshouer S12) and look much better.
