Originally I didn’t like Diane mainly due to her self contradictions but this video really made me Look at her in a different light I actually feel I relate more to her now
I dont mean to be off topic but does anyone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot my account password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
@Jaiden Salvatore Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
a really good video by Ariana Alexis mentioned that diane makes people uncomfortable because she’s the only character who does something about her mental health and i agree. she challenges the idea that we can be comfortable with the broken parts of ourselves. she encourages the audience to understand you don’t need to hate yourself into changing, but you can only be a better person when you are constantly seeking out the bad in yourself and dissolving it. you have to be intimately familiar with your own soul to do that, and that’s an uncomfortable narrative for a lot of people to swallow.
Have you even watched the show? All of the main characters try to become happier by becoming better in the end. Even Todd and MR. Peanutbutter show growth.
@@fecomate2542 not really??? Todd fails upwards the entire show as a gag until he has one heartfelt moment w his parents in like the last season, and Mr. Peanutbutter is a completely flat character until he has a small arc with pickles. They're not bad characters and I like them both but they are indeed flat characters that are not dynamic
@@preston21354 that's why I have said "even" them. I hate Todd because as you have put it he fails upwards, but he did become more at the end of the show. PBs arc was rushed sadly but he did grow as a person. Not much, but he did.
@@fecomate2542 okay but you wouldn't describe those characters as actively looking inward to understand what makes them unhappy would you. In fact Diane specifically helps PB make that connection about his unhappiness in relationships.
@@KD-ou2np PB did. Remember when one of his relatives was Ill and he became depressed? He was having Bojacks dilleama, but he solved it relatively quickly. Todd had that whole ace and family thing. Now I'm not saying that their struggles were equal to PC, BH and Diane, but they had them as well.
“That's the thing. I don't think I believe in deep down. I kinda think that all you are is just the things that you do.” Bojack horseman gives me so many good quote, but this one is the one that hits me the most. Idk why
Because so many people seem to want brownie points for the "deep down" they are trying so hard to convince themselves lies within people they really want to be able to like or love... and within themselves. But it _doesn't_ exist. All we are are our actions. If these good intentions existed, we should be able to get some evidence of that.
i don't believe this and I don't think Diane does either. She consistently keeps trying to help Bojack become a "good person" because she herself believes "deep down" that he is capable of it. There is a "deep down", but having a "deep down" doesn't make up being shitty behavior, and having a good "deep down" doesn't make you a good person if you keep doing bad things. But the fact still remains that Bojack's "deep down" is what keeps Diane coming back to Bojack, and why we as viewers keep the belief Bojack will eventually become the person he wants to be. Even if the harsh reality is that he never will
@sam mayne I don't see how capability and deep down are much different though. If Diane believes you are just your actions, then capability and intent shouldn't really matter anyways.
Literally crying right now because the guy I’m seeing keeps trying to convince me he’s a good person who’s on the road to reform. But his actions say otherwise. It sucks to come to that realization.
Although I do love Diane, and can relate to both her and Bojack, I actually would love if people did a full analysis of Princess Carolyn. She was a great character that I don’t think gets enough praise. Really great video btw, I wish more people saw these things about Diane.
PC is one of my favorites. At point point PC digs into Diane for making Sextina's abortion display all about her, and just airs out her dirty laundry regarding her infertility and projects all over Diane. After Diane gets the abortion and Diane opens up how the world expects her to be ready for kids at her age, PC lets her know she doesn't have to explain anything to anyone. PC set aside her desires, insecurity and jealousy to impart wisdom and understanding. PC often flakes on solidarity among women, but this was one of the few times she was actually there for someone. PC probably would have loved to adopt Diane's baby if she had it, but doesn't flinch when she lets Diane know 'It's not about them. It's about you. This is YOUR story.' It's almost like it came straight from the Movie Star Speech. Fuck, now that just made me sad.
She gets hate because she suffers from a lot of the same flaws a Bojack but is not nearly as funny or entertaining. If you aged Diane 20 years I've no doubt she would be as bad a person if not worse than Bojack is currently. Everyone would hate Bojack too if he wasn't as funny and entertaining as he is.
She's often the voice of reason which can be boring. She's definitely self-righteous even though she's just as flawed as her ex-husband and nearly as flawed as Bojack. Things don't really blow-up in her face like with Bojack, so she lacks comeuppance for her crappy deeds. Princess Caroline is a very hard worker, while Diane kinda just lucks into cool or at least sought-after jobs. I like her character, but I don't think anyone on the show is all that likeable... the same kinda applies to Always Sunny.
I've always felt more connected with Diane than with bojack, I just feel like she's the more human part of the show, sure bojack is relatable when you talk about the mental issues he's dealing with, but Diane goes day to day trying to defeat those same mental issues.
Daniel Ramírez everyone should relate to Diane and not Bojack- for reasons listed in this essay. Also, Bojack is a portrait of an absolute poisonous person that needs to change. Which is okay. He can change, and he’s on his way, maybe it won’t take 22 mins of showtime, but maybe a few seasons :)
She bails on everything that gets hard, manipulates and lies to people, and went on a multi month bender. She's really bad at defeating those issues then.
I like they didn't end up together with Bojack. Usually the role of the female best friend to a male protagonist is to become his girlfriend. She is to good for him anyways.
It makes the most sense tbh for them not getting together. They are good and love eachother but unfortunately they bring our the negative in eachother.
@@betweenthedimensions8315 you realize Bojack is actually the most terrible person on the show right. Don’t let your misogyny cloud your mind. Diane was a realistic portrayal of a lot of people that I know and they are great people. If you can’t sympathize with her, you must’ve blindly watched the show, and just watched it for laughs.
@@raffygrullon9426 but from what I can see people don't dislike her personality while still acknowledging she is a really well developed and relatable character (in similar vains to Bojack). They seem to actually hate her character in general and think she brings down the show a lot. That I don't understand
I relate most to Diane. She has a lot of passion and wants to achieve big things out of life, but often ends up falling short or even delve into hypocritical tendencies. I WANT to be a Princess Caroline (a successful career woman who perseveres through her problems and eventually comes out on top on the other side), but ultimately most of us are Diane's or worse, BoJack's. We end up settling. That isn't always a bad thing, but can often leave one feeling unsatisfied in life and struggling to fill that void and simultaneously "find" ourselves
Just like Diane princess Caroline is just as fucked up tbh. Not knowing how to care for urself is very painful. She is very talented and successful and that's to her credit but none of it really matters if she doesn't feel grounded. I get it I wanted to be like her too since she has the opposite problems. But it is just as bad to be her as it is to be Diane.
That's why I relate to Diane the most. I wish I was a MPB or Todd, but I overthink about things so much that I'm constantly anxious and/or depressed and end up sabotaging myself because I try to cover all bases in every situation and I burn myself out.
I know right? Like you start out by finding something that you really believe in but then a dark cloud of "what it's" makes you question everything. And finally the lightning comes one after the other and you end up stranded in the shore once again because the storm has shaken all of your beliefs lol
You know, you are right in that you are like Diane. Trying to make their failings sound like the result of just being too selfless. But Diane isn't selfless, in fact, she's probably the most selfish character on the Show. It is rather fascinating to go through these comments and look upon those that identify with Diane trying to diffuse criticism. But it won't work, you can't go oh, well what about Bojack or Mr. PB. It doesn't matter if they have similar flaws, THEY are entertaining, Diane is not. I'm not trying to be friends with any of these characters, their personalities therefore come secondary to their ability to entertasin me. The show however is bult around deeply flawed characters. Therefore, Mr.PB and Bojakc, Todd and PC, they all have their issues, but they are also entertaining. With Diane, all that reamains is the flawed personality...which in and of itself wouldn't be a problem, but the specific personality given to Diane IS. See, because not only is Diane not fun, she's also a kind of person that many of us have become far more aware of then we wish, Diane is they kind of person that wants the world to be miserable with her. It's not enough for Diane to be sad about things, so she has to try and make a big deal out of any given thing. Diane also knows that she won't accomplish her supposed goal, that's fine though, the real goal isn't about achieving that, it's about forcing people to listen to you. And that is what makes Diane infinitely worse then Bojack and Co could ever be. They may be shitty, but they aren't "I want the entire World to be miserable with me because that's how bad I am at coping with the chaotic nature of the world.
@@Monoochrom I don't think it's fair to say that Diane is worse than Bojack because she 'wants the world to be miserable with her'. Diane is not some vaudeville villain directly plotting to make people miserable. Neither is Bojack. But they both end up making people miserable because of how they cope (or fail to cope) with the world. Bojack makes people miserable by having little regard for anyone and spreading a negative worldview onto people who interact with him because that's what he's been taught. He doesn't know what it's like to take care of someone and he's never learned so he buys into the toxicity he grew up with. And it hurts to face that, so he doesn't and continues to spread that toxicity. Diane doesn't just want people to listen to her talk. Unlike Bojack, she does face her trauma but she is stuck in it and stuck in making it right. She sees injustice and negativity everywhere she looks, only now, she feels like she has the power to fix it. So she makes people miserable by pointing out everything that needs "fixing" in hopes that she can help repair the world (and herself). Rather than focusing on what she can control, what she can't and accepting her life as it was. Bojack and Diane BOTH make other people miserable because they are BOTH bad at coping with the chaotic nature of the world but neither of them have the intention of making other people miserable. Whether it's denial leading to negativity or rumination leading to negativity, both are negative. They're just people with issues in 2 different phases of struggle. It doesn't make one worse than the other because one isn't as "fun" or because one triggers you more than the other does. Some people found Bojack more triggering because people in that state of denial have done more damage to them personally. It's also true that people in denial can react especially badly to people who only want to talk about the shitty stuff and vice versa. So I can see why the two sides fight a lot.
I think that's the true point of Diane! She shows the audience that it's okay to be messy at times and waver as a person because you will eventually find yourself
Sounds like Diane is the embodiment of perfectionism: never settle, never be satisfied because there’s always an nth degree more. Perfect is the enemy of “good enough.”
I see Bojack and Diane as two different tails of suffering. Bojack's trying to reverse 20 years of terrible decisions and destructive habits while Diane is crashing and burning in real time, and I feel just seeing how those smaller but still significant problems build up resonates with a lot of the viewers. I pity Bojack, only Bojack gets me to think as deep as I have, but I've also seen the same sad Bojack for five seasons, whereas Diane started with at least the illusion of having some kind of control over her life. It's like seeing Bojack has shown this potential end all be all of a self destructive mismanaged lifestyle and Diane keeps getting closer and closer to that red line, and it's tough to watch.
@@TheGooglySmoog I don't dislike Diane, at all really, but maybe that's because I can relate to her issues of wanting to help too much and neglecting her own issues. I feel the show is written to be interpreted a bit differently by everyone, so multiple viewpoints I feel hold good merit.
The episode in the final season where she struggles to confront her childhood trauma through writing while going on and off antidepressants is one of the best of the whole series.
I love Diane so much as a character, and agree that she is relatable in that she's not sure what she's doing in life, and struggles to maintain a sense of direction. She's always there to listen to and support Bojack, and isn't afraid to call him out on some of his more boneheaded decisions, and acts as his conscience and moral centre. I admire her readiness to help her friends and people in society, and that she doesn't give up on her causes. Despite coming off as intense or insufferable at times, she really has a strong moral compass and tremendous strength. Please do an analysis on more Alison Brie characters, such as Trudy Campbell from "Mad Men", Ruth Wilder from "GLOW" and Annie Edison from "Community"!❤😊
I love bojacks character cause I feel a lot of sympathy for him. I understand what a broken childhood can do to a person. But when It come to Diane when i first saw her I thought she was gonna be one of those 1d characters. I honestly relate to her more. It makes feel like I don't have to be so perfect all the time. That I'm allowed to fuck up and still don't have to hate myself all the time just have to take accountability and try my best. And I understand she is a hypocrite sometimes as well. But I think I am too and I recognize that and try to break that habit. She has many flaws but she's the most human female character to me tbh. I love princess Caroline too and her character is very well written. But the overworked, overcaring, self neglected female thing is just everpresent in my eyes and I see it in my mom too so it just hurts to see her often.
I wished her depression was brought up in this analysis. As much as I love her and her approach to life, her spirals were self destructive mentally (compared to Bojack, who was self destructive physically). Her outlook on life is so important, however I wish this video brought up its cons as well. It's never one dimensional, which is so great about the show!
I adore Diane SO MUCH. She's broken, she can be self serving, she can be pretentious, etc but these attributes don't stop her from trying to be a good person. She is aware of her faults and owns up to them. Diane and Bojack are Anima and Animus to me - but them being together would be too tumultuous. In a way, their relationship reminds me of Don and Peggy from Mad Men; some viewers want them to be together but those viewers haven't dived deep enough to see how terrible the relationship would be. All of the above mentioned characters are too similar; but with Diane and Peggy, they are the evolved, more self actualized version of their male counterparts
I totally agree with your assessment! I see Bojack and Diane's friendship as being similar to Don and Peggy's, as they're both jerky, problematic male characters supported by an ambitious, nurturing female who acts as their moral compass.
@@trinaq precisely! Both Diane and Peggy are progressive feminists (of their respected times) while both Bojack and Don are relics of a bygone era but still try to catch with the times and stay relevant
I love how in the first episode they painted Diane as this awkward nerdy asian with a name that the main character can't even pronounce and she ends up being one of the core characters that men adore and women *gets*
I get it but I don't know y any female being associated with nurturing and being anyone's moral compass is a annoying thought to me. Rather that, people being their own moral compasses and being kind to each other is better.
Diane was the most important character of the show for me. She is so real. I really felt for her, like if I knew her in person. I loved her and I cheered for her BUT never wanted to be like her. She showed me the most important lesson: depression sucks. For real. I have the feeling she never felt enough and that that was the reason she could never be happy. She could have saved herself so much suffering.
Diane is the most relatable character for me, being a complex many-sided thinker. I am SO often stuck in paralysis because of being too aware of everything and that attracts me to friends like Bojack too.
You know I'd actually want a friend like Diane. She's the only actual friend who didn't give up on Bojack and didn't let him wallow in his own toxic tar pit when he had no one else anchor him to reality. Don't even get me started on how much i relate to her so much it hurts. She thought she could change the world for the better but she couldn't. She struggles to find authenticity in herself and others which is highlighted within her relationship with Mr. PB which is superficial and constantly foreshadowed to fail. She actively tries to better herself without giving her or others easy excuses. There's a reason why she's a focal point of the show. She's one of the most human and depressing characters. The fact that she could make the distinction that evil and good aren't white and black and forgive even those that have gone beyond forgiving speaks miles about her character for me. Her and PC are my favorite characters.
People often use Diane's ability to relate to the audience as a defense of her character, but many fans hate her BECAUSE she resonates with one of the greatest fears of humanity. We want to desperately believe that as long as we have good intentions and rationalizations that we can be moral, justified people without thinking about the consequences of our actions; in reality, all this does is leave us in ignorance, unaware that we are walking down a dangerous path. At the end of the latest season, both Bojack and Diane end on a broken, depressing note, but the key difference is that Bojack is receiving help while Diane drives away, with nothing the listen to but the car radio and her own thoughts. This is a chilling display to watch, and is something I am sure many people can relate to, even if they would hate to admit it.
I wouldn't really say Bojack was the better one here. He nearly killed someone because of his addiction to opioids. Diane already had her bender and Bojack helped her out (after enabling her), now she's returning the favor.
Davned This is very spot on. A lot of what makes Diane so uncomfortable to watch is that we realize that just because she's trying to be moral... doesn't mean she's succeeding. There's a lot about her that is insufferable despite her intentions and that reflection of ourselves is just like you said. Painful. Thanks for pointing this out.
I hated her so much.. honestly the least fave character in the show. But then I realized she's also the most relatable, at least for me. I still don't like her much and just watching her screw things up is so annoying.. but now it feels more personal
She's praticly the moral compass of the series, serving as a mirror for Bojack's behavior, showing both his bad and good sides and trying to make him a better person. The ending of season 5 was really beautiful and one of her most selfless act throughout the series and I really really hope the Princess Diane tunnel theory wouldn't be true. Long live to Diane!
The only time where she felt remorse was when she had sex with Peanutbutter, but even when she felt guilty, she still slept with Peanutbutter again.......because........ Well we never get a reason.
I’ll say it if no one else does: A big reason certain BH fans hate Dianne is because of deep-rooted misogyny. They’re either Bojack bros who are mad at her for choosing Mr. Peanutbutter over him, or mad at her for divorcing and fighting w/ Mr. Peanutbutter. Nevermind the fact that Bojack isn’t really in love with Dianne and Mr. Peanutbutter has trouble paying attention to his partner’s emotional needs. They’re so used to jerkass male protagonists automatically being treated as heroes and given a pass for their behavior (one of the very tropes this show deconstructs!), that they don’t like to see Dianne call Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter out on their behavior, even if she actually shows a lot of friendship and empathy for them.
Yup. If you've read some comments on other videos about her, they usually shit on her for how she treats Mr. Peanutbutter, as if he is perfect and not an asshole at times. I, for one, am a huge feminist, and still felt really angry at her for not treating Mr. PB as i thought he should be treated. But then i started questioning myself and realized i was just being sexist lol.
VM No. People hate her in the same way people hate characters like Shinji Ikari. They see themselves in her, because she’s written in such a way that she feels like a real person.
I actually think it's because Diane is the character that challenges the status quo and fights for values beyond the vapid BS of Hollywoo(d). It's admirable, but some may find it tiring and her fights for equality, accountability and a value-centred world make those who don't want those things feel guilty, so they lash out.
The sad truth is that we not stand for everything, it's gonna be a disaster. Oppressed people who weren't priorities and were seen as collateral damage or weren't being seen at all, are the one that are now rioting, and with a reason. In cases of oppression, not being aware of all the causes and how interseccionality works, is dangerous.
I love Diane and her character, she's the perfect heroine the show needs and she's so often underrated. Thank you, you Ladies never cease to amaze with these great analysis's😁
"I wasn't the person I'd thought I was." That line hit me so hard... People form these biased impressions of themselves, often assuming the best. They align themselves with their principles, when it's all too easy to contradict them. Diane's problem, is that she's such an idealist, and expects everyone - including herself - to live up to an impossible standard.
"you know me. Better than anybody. And you can't not be a part of my life." ouch this aged... Heartbreakingly. I'm so glad that Diane found her peace and happiness. And I like to imagine that somewhere in the future, away from all the Hollywoo troubles, Bojack will too. But maybe that's just the will to believe in people changing for the better, which more often than not leaves you disappointed again and again. Diane had to realize she can't save everyone, let alone the world, to be happy. Bless her.
people dont understand that a character being a bad person doesnt make them a bad CHARACTER. even if u dont like diane as a person shes an amazing character. incredibly well developed and arc so far has been soooo good. the hate she gets for being a complex and interesting character really bothers me. this also goes the other way though, with people mistaking good characters as good people. like snape in the harry potter series, his character is GREAT, but hes also facist teacher who abuses a student for years bc his mom didnt want to date him. Bad Person. Good Character. ppl need to learn how to separate them.
baked fish AGREED, as a teenager in High School I can relate to her uncertain flip flopping and wanting to help while at the same time call people out on there behavior.
I related to Diane as the show progressed. Her relationship, her struggling to maintain a sense of direction, and just how she handles a lot of things makes her the character I relate to the most in the show.
Diane is a perfectionist, that expects high standards of conduct not only from others but from herself as well. She was criticized a lot as a child by her family (can relate to it, as asian woman you have higher expectations than your male relatives), so I guess she searched validation and love outside of her family, probably through school, that's why she is so well educated, have a discipline and can think critically. But she can't let herself just enjoy small things, and just be an ordinary person. She demands herself to make change in the world, that's why she takes up that job with Sebastian Cinclair, a job that seemed perfect in paper, but turned out not exactly sm th that would make her happy. The thing I don't understand about her is why she is not happy with Mr. Peanutbutter?
She wants a deeper connection with someone who will accept her "warts and all" Mr. PeanutButter just pretends the warts don't exist and thinks grand gestures will magically fix their relationship. He doesn't take the time to get to truly know her he just wants everything to be happy and positive all the time but people aren't like that
I feel like a lot of the hate for Diana just stems from her relationship with Mr. Peanutbutter and Bojack. Those two guys are the most prolific and fleshed-out characters on the show to the point where their obviously toxic and destructive traits genuinely eclipse their more positive attributes (which is part of the meta-humor), and it's almost always Diane to bear the brunt of those toxic behaviors first and/or point them out as the flaws that they are. No one likes a critic or a cynic. People like Bojack because he's a self-aware trainwreck that's fun to watch or relate to and people like Mr. Peanutbutter because a part of him is a genuinely nice and caring person and kind of makes him into the friend everyone would want. Diane really doesn't do any of that; instead I think she's meant to appeal to those of us who've had to actively deal with toxic people in our lives as well as try to solve our own destructive behaviors, none of which are fun or even nice sometimes despite the obvious rewards and benefits long-term. A lot of us may not like Diane but everyone needs one to stay on the straight and narrow.
I'm sorry who was the one that published a chapter of a book on Bojack without his consent? Who bailed on Cordovia and lied to PB about being there for months going on a bender instead (while staying at bojacks place)? Who ignored PB when he asked her not to go after the guy that could pull the plug on his new Job (after she freaked out that he might not have a job and they might become homeless?). People don't like her...because she is critical of others but is an asshole herself.
Yeah, that's why I said that Diane also appeals to people who have to deal with their own destructive behaviors. She's *aware* that she's fucked up and you see in the show that she tries to learn from that and be a better person. Part of knowing right from wrong is learning that lesson first-hand. Diane isn't meant to be a morally flawless paragon; that kind of defeats the point of being the character that sees ambiguity and contradiction in everything. She's instead supposed to show an alternative to Bojack where she still works to be a better person despite all the forces that go against that.
@@ginkiba3 But she doesn't work to be a better person. Again name a time she's reflected on something she did that was bad outside the episode where it happens? When has she reflected on her many mistakes in her marriage rather than shit talking PB on the radio? That's season 5 by the way. This character that is trying to be a better person is still awful to those around her. She literally works for someone that killed her entire IT department in front of her. Diane is a toxic person herself every bit as much as Bojack and PB. You want to know who has to deal with their own self destructive behaviors and slowly works on being a better person...Princess godammn Carolyn. You know the one that got DIane both her jobs despite Diane never thanking her (no pointing out you never thanked someone is not thanking them). She's the one that deals with everyone else's toxic behaviors (except Todd)
@@lProN00bl again, *that's kind of the point*. Everyone on Bojack Horseman is toxic, dysfunctional, and hypocritical to some degree or another because everyone in real life is the same way in some degree or another. There's no heroes or real villains in the show but just people trying to navigate the world as best they can, and Diane is really the only character that's aware of that. She still pushes Bojack to get therapy for his problems and she tries to give PB genuinely helpful love advice despite the fact they just went through a divorce. Mind you that Bojack almost killed someone in season 5 and PB is falling into the same trap with Pickles, who Diane also helped out when she was going through a drunken crisis. Say what you want about Diane, but she's one of the few active forces of actually giving a shit on the entire show. Becoming a better person isn't a single-done thing but a constant process you have to work on and it's something you will fuck up with down the road, which is again, a major theme of the series that's touched on time and time again. Also, your examples are kind of bad. The whole gassing the IT department was a gag (one that Diana was visibly not okay with) and Diane has worked with Princess Carolyn both on and off the clock numerous times.
@@ginkiba3 Yes but none of them are constantly playing judge on the others to the degree Diane does for everyone. When you are constantly trying to have the moral high ground and judge others. Yes Bojack is harsh on society but that's clearly shown as just an illusion to cope with his own behavior. She's not "aware" of that...those are just her beliefs. It's not some greater truth she understands it's just how she views the world...which is fine but can easily be argued against. Her push to get Bojack to therapy is to make him re-enact the scene with Penny. That's not trying to help him that's the same thing she did in season 1, acting out of anger (releasing part of the book without his consent), then pretending it was for his benefit when it traumatized him more. Her "advice" to PB doesn't even make sense. Because none of his marriages failed because the women "grew up" Katrina becomes a terrible person because of one party...Biel clearly never changed...and Diane is still acting like she's 20. The problem with an ex giving you advice about your failed relationships is it's going to be biased. Especially when nearly all the things she complains about him...she does. She doesn't listen, she does things without caring about what others want. It could have worked if they both recognized their flaws but that doesn't happen instead it's another Diane lecture. The only real progress she makes is towards the end of season 5 where she briefly says she isn't in a position to be judging or telling others what they've done wrong or what they should do...but that's broken because that's exactly what she does the next scene. That it's comedy does not make it less fucked up. She was visibly thrown off by it, but she did not report it and still works for her. What does Diane having worked "off the clock" have to do with anything? How do you know she's not salary? Also doesn't make up for that PC has done way more for her than she's ever done for anyone else, let alone PC. My whole point is she's actually a worse person in season 5 than in season 1. Because in season one while she is a little cynical and willing to point out flaws in what people say, she's not crusading and snooping into their lives because she feels entitled to know everything about them.
Tobo McLukewarm Honestly? Don't take my word as gospel but from what I've seen it's usually the ones that either identify too hard with BoJack and get angry when she calls him out or the ones that think that "she's too PC for the funny horse show" There's also the ones that don't like the contradictions of her personality but that opinion is at least valid, even if I don't agree with it
Tobo McLukewarm if i had to guess, probably because those members of the fanbase are anti feminists who find bojack’s flaws relatable and complex but think diane is an irredeemable bitch for exhibiting the exact same characteristics. they’d probably rather she wasn’t there to serve as his moral compass so that he could keep making terrible choices and they could keep doing the same without ever feeling a need to actually self reflect long enough to create any change, instead insisting that it’s fine, they’re just complex like bojack.. even though diane is also complex, like bojack
I've been inclined to believe it is because of underlining misogyny (even though if I that that's a reason for their hatred they'll say I'm a PC Libtard and will quickly list a lot of her negative qualities like hypocrisy and selfishness even though they love Bojack despite him being far more terrible and frequently doing more reprehensible things) but I think it could also be that they misjudge her character and the point of her? I might sound pretentious and like the stereotyped Rick and Morty fan but I do think the people who dismiss Diane and hate her don't get the show as a whole and are missing out on key elements of its complexity and nuances.
@@oddwimpod3617 I'd reckon Bojack is an even more frustrating contradiction than Diane. Diane is confused about her place in The world and of life itself and feels lost in an existential way. She isn't aware that her own emotions and judgements can fluctuate in spite of her will to change the world and its negative inclinations. That's a genuinely tough thing to struggle with and reconcile. Bojack though is frustrating because he genuinely wants to be a better person and not hurt people yet everything (well most things) he does negates that (which adds to his complexity as a character though. Not saying its a bad thing) I just don't see why people are upset at Diane's hypocrisy and not Bojacks.
I suppose I'm surprised because everyone I know personally love Diane as a character and says she is the most well written and relatable along with Bojack. But then when reading forums or comments relating to Bojack the majority of it centres around Diane being a despicable person and a huge weakness on the show's part. It baffles me in fairness.
Thanks for your analysis. Some people always complained that she was hypocritical, but instead you showed her as a person who is full of contradictions and a reflection of a generation. Thanks ladies 😘
For a moment, I thought I saw my name (Diana Nguyen) on the Screen Prism thumbnail, lol. Have never watched this show but maybe I'll give it a try after watching this video. Pretty rare to see a Vietnamese American character on TV.
Fans hate her because, although she does try to be a good person, she often uses that as an excuse to justify overlooking her own faults. She and Bojack both have self-destructive behaviors, but Diane takes solace in the fact that she can at least recognize them. It is this sense of comfort that prevents her from ever feeling the need to change her own life for the better, and is actually more tragic than Bojack's story arc if you ask me.
@@bigtimetimmyjim6486 I think you somewhat contradicted yourself as you say Diane overlooks her faults while also saying that she is also able to recognize her self-destructive behavior yet not strive for improvement. How can she overlook and simultaneously recognize her faults? I think the show very clearly shows how unhappy Diane is with some of her choices, yet she is the one actively trying to improve by going to therapy, something BoJack refused to do for a long time. This doesn't make her perfect, as she has certain pretentious or maybe even narcissistic traits. In general, I don't understand how you can hate any of the main characters as they are all interesting and well development and written and also relatable to some degree.
derami100 Well I believe that the characters we love or hate with the most intensity carry parts of ourselves that we recognize in them. I’m personally not so crazy about Diane myself mainly because I see a lot of things I don’t like about me in her and it frustrates me.
I’m actually surprised to hear (for the first time because I dont have any social life) that Diane is hated. During the first episodes to me she just seemed out of place, and it was unclear about her significance in the series. Later on her presence started to grow in both frequency and importance, and there is more space to explore her as a person. A lot of the times when she behaves in a morally questionable manner, I can still see them as her struggling in a very life-like way and similar to any other character in Bojack Horseman, you ultimately find and embrace Diane as a person after going through her possibly troublesome patterns
I'm gonna be honest. I adore how much substance you manage to put into these videos. I was at the 7 minute mark and swore it had been 15 because your detailing of her intricacies was so filling and immersive that it drew me in so much in so little time. You guys probably make my favorite video essays now, and I watch plenty of those, so congrats and keep up the great work!
I LOOOOVE this character ♡ I haven't been so touched by a character since Daria. I like the fact that she is idealistic and so melancholic at one. Diane is stucked between her principles and reality and I just feel her so muuuuch
I had a problem with Dianne until I realised that she is like me: a person who constantly changes and realises things about herself and the world. But you know who I hate? Mr. Peanutbutter... I really don’t like him.
I think Diane gets hate because it’s expected of women to present as uncomplicated and complacent in shows that aren’t specifically following a female lead.
Diane is awesome! I appreciate her representing the Nguyen name in a non-stereotypical way 💖 and even though Alison Brie isn’t Vietnamese I love her voice acting as well.
I think everyone's at least somewhat relatable in Bojack Horseman because everyone is, ironically, very human (except Todd). Diane, however, is the most GROUNDED human. Bojack and Mr. Peanutbutter have these bombastic templates realistic human emotions are set into, but Diane is so default by comparison that she seems completely "normal" in S1. It's only once you get to see her personal life that it's really clear how even the most together-seeming people can be lost and uncertain, and keep searching for what will make them happy. That makes her more relatable than anyone else, really.
You guys really hit the nail on the head with this one. This is why I love your channel--you are always looking at media in such insightful ways, I never get tired of watching!
It’s dumb to say this, but I’m a Mexican, sometimes heterosexual man, and Diane is the character I relate the most besides Bojack. Both are flawed and sometimes selfish but their willingness to make amends to their friends and caring about is what inspires me to become a better person, event though I end up in the same hole again and again.
Qui-Mono Same here, (straight Mexican-American woman though)even with my feminist views of the world aside Diane is basically me. I WANT to live up-right and make up for my faults. Yet-I myself find myself in the same relentless cycles. I've had friends like Bojack, and as much as I want to be the compassionate figure of forgiveness in there lives. Fifty percent of the the time I'm sick of there garbage and refuse to be there human shield against consequences and responsibility of there own shitty behavior. I want to do right in a world that's already on the fast-track to "We're Fucked-Ville". Yet things change too fast and only complicate matters worse and the best I can do is calm my anxiety. God Diane just takes the cake too much for me-definitely my fave character of the show.
Lol why the emphasis on straight y’all it’s hilarious. You can be a dude and relate to a female character and still be straight lmaoo. I’m Mexican American too btw.
I think it's also important to acknowledge how Diane so often disregards her own needs for the sake of others. She drains herself trying to help the people in her own life and also trying to help people she'll never know or meet and in doing so she ignores her own mental health and personal needs a lot of the time. It's one of her most relatable attributes.
Every part of Diane is great. She’s not perfect, she’s often wrong about things, and she makes mistakes. Though she’s caring, driven, and relatable. I love that she can be so fundamentally flawless and full of flaws at the same time.
People compare Diane and Bojack and I get that they both struggle with depression but she doesn’t take advantage of people sexually and that’s...that s a huge difference. They’re not the same.
I rarely see Vietnamese characters in mainstream media, so I immediately related to Diane as soon as I started the show just on that basis. There have been moments where I have no idea wtf she’s on, and moments where her words hit my soul 😭 One of the best written shows in terms of character complexity I’ve seen.
If I'm being completely honest, I really disliked Diane when I started watching the show. I couldn't exactly say why, but there was something about her that I just really resented. And it wasn't until halfway through season 1 that I realized I didn't like her because I saw a lot of myself in her: I really want to be smart, but worry that I'm not; I try my hardest to be selfless but in that pursuit can sometimes be selfish; I want to see the good in people but am floored by the injustice of the world and our capitalistic society. So when her ugly and very human side came to light on the show, I rejected her because I didn't want to see that -- I felt like a light was being shined on me, too. I think that's why a lot of people don't like her -- they're afraid she's too much like them and they don't like it when their flaws are on full display. When I realized why I didn't like her, I did my best to get over it. I tried to see her as a whole, (not just focusing on her bad qualities, afraid they were reflective of me and mine) and managed to accept who she is. Now I can't even imagine the series without her - she is relatable, she is empathic and, like this video shows, she is the soul not only of the show, but of BoJack Horseman.
I genuinely feel Diane’s emotions in my SOUL, I’m so similar to her AND Bojack, but I’m definitely more like her, I just have similar childhood issues to Bojack, except mine are more hidden and people can’t tell that my parents aren’t very kind w words and have scarred me a few times
The first season of Bojack was uneven but what kept me interested to give the second season a shot was Diane. And now I'm so glad I did because it evolved into one of the best TV shows I've seen.
And that way everybody knows what I want, and I know what I want Which is what everyone wants and it's really clear, and nobody is confused by anything.
Interesting. I’d say INFJ. Lead Ni’s constantly look for the abstract “missing information,” which results in their indecision. They have also been called “the bitterest of cynics, as well as the dreamiest idealists.”
@@elainecary2884 I'm glad you think she's an INFJ. Most of my friends say that she's INFP and we get into really heated arguments cause I insist that it's the former.
No Lümpen I’m INFJ and do not come across as emotional. I have hardcore resting bitch face and my tone of voice is very flat haha. Ni: she imagines a better future/is idealistic; Fe: she helps others improve themselves (roots for Todd, is essentially bojack’s therapist).
I have always related to Diane so much. The lastepisode where her boss calls her out on having too high expectations of everyone including herself, I thought: have the writers been listening in on my counselling sessions? LOL LOVE the video!
Diane really irritates me but it was nice to see a different respective. I don't personally relate to her because I find her lack of consistency frustrating. As a character, she's really well done, and I can see how some one in a similar place would relate. But while Diane might be constantly evolving, she has no direction. She's the mirror of Bojack: Bojack finds himself repeating cycles of addiction which lower his inhibitions until he does something so terrible that he sobers up (then repeats the cycle). Diane repeats cycles of trying to be a champion of morality which elevates her self righteousness until she hurts someone or has the opposite the effect because she was so sure of herself, then becomes conflicted and unsure until she finds something else to champion. She seems incapable of approaching anything with nuance until it blows up in her face. Both Diane and Bojack are directionless and self-destructive. But while Bojack is aware of but complacent with his shitty behavior, Diane believes her good causes make her a good person, so she doesn't understand how she enables her self-destruction. People who relate to Bojack see the negative potential in themselves. He's the boogeyman of "that's what would happen to me if I let my vices take over". This video seems to be suggesting that Diane isn't so much the worst-case scenario for viewers that relate to her, as a very close to accurate representation.
After looking at the comments, I think my 2 cents could help understanding some “hate” Diane seems to get from fans. I don’t think the hate for her is genuine “hate” I think some fans “hate Diane” not in a literal sense, but in a sense that they are frustrated with her mistakes. It’s a testament to how well the character is written. People “hate her” because they are attached to her, and they want her to do well. It’s the frustration they feel for a friend when they squander their potential. I don’t think I would say I “hate” Diane, HOWEVER, she is a character who makes me feel frustrated, very often. But I think that’s a good thing. People watch Bojack because they like the emotional impact it can have (at least, that’s why I watch it.) Diane is a great character, but this show is chocked full of great characters.
I think you're right. But a second reason I think people hate her is because she often opposes Bojack, and is the one judging him and putting him down. Since Bojack is the protagonist, this often frames Diane as an antagonist. It's very comparable to the hate Skyler from Breaking Bad got.
@@maxmarks3503 totally agree with the Diane / Skylar comparison! These characters get hate because they become foils for the protagonist... "party poopers running the fun"
I love Vietnamese Daria! =D I also never saw her as "inconsistent"... so much as "so ridiculously consistent that it tended to be hard to fit into the plot."
9:55 Oh my god, I completely forgot about the Sarah Koenig ringtone 😂 lol. Had to pause the video for a minute I was laughing so hard. God this show is so sad and funny and clever. And I freaking love Diane. Great analysis and great video ❤️
It's funny, even though I'm pretty anti-sjw I find myself not disliking Diane as much as I probably would if she was just a talking head on UA-cam, even in spite of her self-righteous virtue signaling. I think the reason for that is because you get to see her in ways and places that make her more than just her ideas. UA-cam, Twitter, and Facebook so often boil people down to just the things they say in short videos or status updates, so you don't really get to see the nuance that drives their everyday lives. You never get to see the struggles they come up against that challenge their worldviews, or reaffirm their outlooks. The most relatable thing about Diane is that she's complicated, and everyone knows life is complicated, no matter what they say on UA-cam or Twitter.
I definitely see it from the same point of view as you. I love when Diane gets vindictive. I love her freak outs. It makes the whole sjw thing seem human.
Keldroc Lol. Ex SJW here. I still believe most of the things I used to, but I specifically hate SJW types because they often don't care about the issues they're preaching on and do nothing to change things or put in any work to be an activist while still shitting on everybody around them for not being woke enough. Diane doesn't really fit the bill since she usually puts in the work even to the detriment of her personal needs and goals. But let's not act like everyone who says they're "anti-SJW" is some raging bigoted asshole person when in reality a lot of SJW types are complete and total hypocrites who don't practice what they peach and spend most of their time policing other people's lives and opinions to the point of ridiculousness and claim to uphold values like empathy and kindness while still engaging in mob level takedowns of people who make innocent mistakes or speak out of line with public opinion in the most minute of ways. It's also worth nothing that a lot of them genuinely ignore facts, statistics, easily accessible resources and act like experts on the topics they're discussing anyway while having an entry level (and that's generous) understanding of them at best. All this while trying to take the moral high ground in any discussion or debate they engage in and condescendingly making rude assumptions about the people they're engaging. The amount of SJW types who will act like they uphold civility and kindness and then talk down their nose to anyone who disagrees and treat them as subhuman kind of speaks for itself.
This is the best thought through and compiled Bojack Horseman video essay I've yet watched. As a die-hard Diane fan, and someone who's been trying to come to grips with her character throughout multiple watches of all five seasons, this whole video really stuck it out of the park. You've put the character into words in a way I've really been struggling to. Gonna go watch the first few seasons (again) with your analysis in mind lmao

Originally I didn’t like Diane mainly due to her self contradictions but this video really made me Look at her in a different light I actually feel I relate more to her now
Lot of ads. Isn't the plug in the (every) video enough?

I kinda think that all you are is just the things that you do.”
Bojack horseman gives me so many good quote, but this one is the one that hits me the most.
I actually live my life by this quote.
PC is the best part of season 5, for me!
Yesss she is always overlooked for Bojack and Diane
Thank you!! This video implying that Princess Carolyn can be summarized as a single character trait is the most absurd thing I have heard all day.
Yes....quite honestly I think she is the soul of the show.
I don't understand the hate she gets. For me, she is one of the best character of the show. She is very well developed.
Its because she's hypocritical and a little whinny, I like her but she can be a hypocrite and narrow minded.
@Glenna Smith similar to bojack, but the difference is that bojack isn't self righteous like diane
I think it's the Belle room scene. She comes off really bad in that moment
I think the reason she’s so relatable is that she suffers so much trying to understand the world and act in it and that’s what so many of us do
I've always felt more connected with Diane than with bojack, I just feel like she's the more human part of the show, sure bojack is relatable when you talk about the mental issues he's dealing with, but Diane goes day to day trying to defeat those same mental issues.
@@frenchfriedrenaissancebaby6140 I never said the other characters weren't. But Diane gets put on a pedestal.
Agreed, she's way more relatable to me, he's very interesting and I've known a couple people like him, but I wouldn't call him relatable in general.
Exactly the same for me.
I like they didn't end up together with Bojack. Usually the role of the female best friend to a male protagonist is to become his girlfriend. She is to good for him anyways.
It makes the most sense tbh for them not getting together. They are good and love eachother but unfortunately they bring our the negative in eachother.
Nah she sucks just as much as him. She’s the worst character in the show.
I love it too 😍
Honestly in most shows they tease a relationship but never give it
@@betweenthedimensions8315 you realize Bojack is actually the most terrible person on the show right. Don’t let your misogyny cloud your mind. Diane was a realistic portrayal of a lot of people that I know and they are great people. If you can’t sympathize with her, you must’ve blindly watched the show, and just watched it for laughs.
Nice to see some love for Diane. She's a very well written character and it saddens me that a big portion of the Bojack fanbase hate her so much.
"I can't believe this country hates women more than it loves guns."
"No?"
I was ready to see hate comments, but this is a nice change of pace
I never get why Bojack is so liked, I didn't like him since S1. Diane on the other hand is actually very relatable.
Relatable and well written does not always mean likable.
I was actually surprised to discover that the Hank episode aired before the "Me Too" movement.
She reminds me of an adult Lisa Simpson a bit
I agree, but the one I like, from 20 yrs. ago.
And Daria lol
Lisa Simpson but doesnt suck
Agree
naw. Lisa is way more enduring
You're a Zoey. So am I
@@maxmarks3503 damn right! lol
Watching you guys break down this characters makes me want to grow as a person. Idk why but for me your videos are motivating and inspirational
I think that's the true point of Diane! She shows the audience that it's okay to be messy at times and waver as a person because you will eventually find yourself
Lisa picture
I think you get the show better than anyone else. Diane is a hypocrite and a failure.
@@TheGooglySmoog I don't dislike Diane, at all really, but maybe that's because I can relate to her issues of wanting to help too much and neglecting her own issues. I feel the show is written to be interpreted a bit differently by everyone, so multiple viewpoints I feel hold good merit.
TheGooglySmoog why do you think Diane is a failure??
@@TheGooglySmoogso is bojack my dude but at least Diane is a way better person
@@TheGooglySmoog you say that like thats a reason you should actively hate the character??
Caitriona Quigley am I a shitty person if I relate to bojack more?
@@onlyjake3851 not really
@@onlyjake3851 No because you admit to it. Sorry that I'm late btw
Uuuu On
I love bojacks character cause I feel a lot of sympathy for him.
But the overworked, overcaring, self neglected female thing is just everpresent in my eyes and I see it in my mom too so it just hurts to see her often.
i love diane. dont get the hate. it think she is one of the most real people in the show and i relate to her
Vera Schijndel its because shes so real. Shes perfectly written for the person shes supposed to be, i just don’t like that person
LmaoMoni I personally don’t like her because for me she comes off as cringy and forced.
@@LmaoMoni that's a good summary. I just don't like those kind of people.
Her depression was mostly explored in Season 6, after this video was uploaded.
I love how in the first episode they painted Diane as this awkward nerdy asian with a name that the main character can't even pronounce and she ends up being one of the core characters that men adore and women *gets*
.
Mood
Gosh same..
I used to think Diane was annoying, but you guys definitely gave me a better view on her. Turns out I have a lot in common with her. Thanks guys.
You're so right Bharbara i feel you to the point i might cry but the tears won't come out ughh i suck 😤😐
It would be great to see you guys do more Bojack videos. This is one of the best shows for channels like this.
agreed
Next Princess Carolyne, she is my favorite character in the show.
Great summary!
I wouldn't really say Bojack was the better one here. He nearly killed someone because of his addiction to opioids. Diane already had her bender and Bojack helped her out (after enabling her), now she's returning the favor.
@ so a 20 something and Bojack? Ya hate her for being the main demographic and the lead character.
Davned
This is very spot on.
But she's not a good person. She does terrible things and doesn't show any remorse, which at least Bojack shows.
Peanutbutter out on their behavior, even if she actually shows a lot of friendship and empathy for them.
stopped reading at misogyny, stop projecting your insecurities and neurosis on fictional tv characters, idiot
100% agree
Overanalysis leads to paralysis. Also standing for everything and falling for everything.
_"If you stand for nothing, Burr, what'll you fall for?"_
Failing for everything is still better than succeeding in easy goals. Failing gives you a better feeling because you can learn from it.
I really love her character and I'm always like "YES!! FINALLY SOMEONE WITH SENSE AND SELF AWARENESS!" She's relatable too, way more than Bojack.
The soothing voice of the narrator is the SOUL of Screenprism!
that's the tea🍵
Yup. That's Diane.
Good Boy!

i knew there was a reason why i liked diane the most
baked fish AGREED, as a teenager in High School I can relate to her uncertain flip flopping and wanting to help while at the same time call people out on there behavior.
Why does a significant portion of the Bojack fanbase hate Diane so much?
Tobo McLukewarm Honestly? Don't take my word as gospel but from what I've seen it's usually the ones that either identify too hard with BoJack and get angry when she calls him out or the ones that think that "she's too PC for the funny horse show"
There's also the ones that don't like the contradictions of her personality but that opinion is at least valid, even if I don't agree with it
Tobo McLukewarm if i had to guess, probably because those members of the fanbase are anti feminists who find bojack’s flaws relatable and complex but think diane is an irredeemable bitch for exhibiting the exact same characteristics. they’d probably rather she wasn’t there to serve as his moral compass so that he could keep making terrible choices and they could keep doing the same without ever feeling a need to actually self reflect long enough to create any change, instead insisting that it’s fine, they’re just complex like bojack.. even though diane is also complex, like bojack
Diane is my favourite character.. I related to her so much.
Loving this great dissection, I'm eagerly waiting for Character analysis of Todd and PC.

For a moment, I thought I saw my name (Diana Nguyen) on the Screen Prism thumbnail, lol. Have never watched this show but maybe I'll give it a try after watching this video. Pretty rare to see a Vietnamese American character on TV.
For what it's worth, I'd highly recommend it. It brought me to tears on more than one occasion
It's a great show. Really. Give it time .
Love Diane. Wish so many fans didnt hate her
Fans hate her because, although she does try to be a good person, she often uses that as an excuse to justify overlooking her own faults. She and Bojack both have self-destructive behaviors, but Diane takes solace in the fact that she can at least recognize them. It is this sense of comfort that prevents her from ever feeling the need to change her own life for the better, and is actually more tragic than Bojack's story arc if you ask me.
@@bigtimetimmyjim6486 Diane is literally constantly trying to change her life and questioning herself. I'm really not sure what you're referring to.
@@bigtimetimmyjim6486 but then why do they hate her and not Bojack?

Why tho? I didnt like him atfirst too but after season 5 and 6 i startet to like him more
@@lillyfeilke7076 yeah I never really disliked him but he does grow more in those seasons.

Lol you really are Dianne.
I think Diane gets hate because it’s expected of women to present as uncomplicated and complacent in shows that aren’t specifically following a female lead.
I find her lack of consistency to be one of the most relatable things about this character
@@lsantmolina25 Because I turned out to be Bisexual. Thats why I said "sometimes heterosexual" as somekind of joke of myself.
@@star88wars ahhh okay I’m bisexual too!
PC breaks my heart, always.
PC is the true soul of Bojack.
Wow, i never would have guessed season 5 was finished before the metoo movement.
Naomi yeah that's shocking
Lol fr tho
Well aren't you lucky never to be raped or sexual harassed.
Every part of Diane is great. She’s not perfect, she’s often wrong about things, and she makes mistakes. Though she’s caring, driven, and relatable. I love that she can be so fundamentally flawless and full of flaws at the same time.
I loved seeing her recovery in season 6. Diane is such a fantastic character.
I am Diane, and Chidi
People compare Diane and Bojack and I get that they both struggle with depression but she doesn’t take advantage of people sexually and that’s...that s a huge difference. They’re not the same.
exactly...
I relate to Diane a lot and I'm so glad you guys do this exploration on pop culture characters.
I feel like Diane needs to find her center. Through creating her peace, she can interact much better with others.
Ill defend Diane till the end of time and even after that
The way I know Diane is a great character is being able to relate to her. She is so well developed that she enrages and emboldens me.
I freaking Love your Voice! its part of what brings these videos to life and make them great :) you have good narration
You should do one for _Aggretsuko_ .
I hope you continue to do more videos about Bojack! It's such a good show and I love your videos!
sometimes i like diane, sometimes i hate diane
Yup
So does Diane
Exactly!
Oh hey
This makes me see so clearly why I love Diane and this show. Can't like this enough.
Show is weak at first then greats strong like classic Simpsons
I can't put in words how much i love Diane for being this complex character that represents so much the way i think, best character ever ;-
Helped me gain a whole new appreciation for a character that I've always felt split on.
On a side note: I like those sappy 90 shows. Even if it was fake. They had some sense of positivity which everybody needs in a way
I was legit shocked when I found out ppl hated her 💀
diane is one of the best characters of all time, shes such a comfort character
And that way everybody knows what I want, and I know what I want
Which is what everyone wants and it's really clear, and nobody is confused by anything.
All right! Always up for screen prism bojack videos
This is one of the best BoJack Horseman video essays I've ever seen! Thank you!!
Diane seems like an INFP personality type
Alex Wallace or a type 6 on an enneagram
Interesting. I’d say INFJ. Lead Ni’s constantly look for the abstract “missing information,” which results in their indecision. They have also been called “the bitterest of cynics, as well as the dreamiest idealists.”
@@elainecary2884 I'm glad you think she's an INFJ. Most of my friends say that she's INFP and we get into really heated arguments cause I insist that it's the former.
vincent van gogh it’s a no brainer! The inferior Se is real. Hell, she’s stuck in an Ni-Ti loop for half the show.
Now, I appreciate and understand Diane a lot more because I feel like i'm going through the same shit she's going. Thank you for this.
I have always related to Diane so much. The lastepisode where her boss calls her out on having too high expectations of everyone including herself, I thought: have the writers been listening in on my counselling sessions?
LOL
LOVE the video!
Season 5 i can honestly say i hate Diane so much i can't stand her stupid face
I love Vietnamese Daria! =D
I also never saw her as "inconsistent"... so much as "so ridiculously consistent that it tended to be hard to fit into the plot."
9:55 Oh my god, I completely forgot about the Sarah Koenig ringtone 😂 lol. Had to pause the video for a minute I was laughing so hard. God this show is so sad and funny and clever. And I freaking love Diane. Great analysis and great video ❤️
Who else is waiting for season 6?
The wait is over!
Imagine just saying "I'm pretty anti-sjw" like it's not admitting you're a garbage person.
The amount of SJW types who will act like they uphold civility and kindness and then talk down their nose to anyone who disagrees and treat them as subhuman kind of speaks for itself.
anti-sjws are just mirrors of sjws.
@@evo2542 by that logic anti-racists are just as bad as racists
absolutely love this! this video made me realize how much i truly do love diane and seeing a woman like her (and me) trying to figure it all out
Diane is my favorite bojack horseman character and it makes me so happy to see people giving her the credit she deserves
I love Diane so much and I think she really grew in the last season.
