I love Simmons and this book too. The horror of this story completely absorbed me.
    Best regards, Brian from Poland

As much as I love the OTHER novels of Dan Simmons, Song of Kali I found dreadful. I'm glad he vastly improved and became one of my favorite writers.

For me, "The Terror" is Dan Simmons' greatest novel.

I love Simmons but not that book. There's only one scene that i found scary. But what that book did to me was that i will never go to Calcutta ever. So glad you are doing fine Brian. Take care

I recently read Children Of The Night and really liked it. I also liked Drood, my main problem with Simmons is that his books are too long.

I liked the book. I don’t know what category I’d list it in. Strange story.

Kali wants you to give her a 7, or else.

I never continued reading Simmons because of this book. I might read The Terror next year because I found the plot interesting. Should I read it?

I really enjoyed Song of Kali, its the only Dan Simmons ive read so far.
A great mystery, lots of paranoia and tension, some terrifying scenes and a bit of a lesson in hubris.

Anyone who thinks Kipling is racist should be forced to read this book.

Song of Kali is definitely the worst Simmons I've read. I'll always give the benefit of the doubt to a debut novel tho

I enjoyed Carrion Comfort and Summer of Night, but I absolutely hated Song of Kali. Even setting aside the racist undertones (or even overtones), it just wasn't very good, or even scary. The epilogue was the only part I actually found decent.

i don't wanna spoil the fun, but in many places (and with many prominent authors) this book is viewed as deeply racist; as Mr. Simmons also later had some "problems" in that direction (i remember his absolute hysteria when Greta T was speaking at the UNO) i know he has written other, much better books but i think some things should be named as what they are. and this book shouldn't be read or published anymore because it is very hurtful to indian people. and now, shtstorm, please :D
