- Thank you all for watching! I am very happy with how the contrasts in the wood turned out in the end.

Woah, I agree I also think this is my favorite so far. I absolutely love how the roots as a stand turned out. Very organic looking! H.
Thank you so much! Cool that you mention that, I think i will have to add roots to some of my future sculptures as well. Its perfect to do so when i work with a log. Looking forward to my next sculpting adventure!
It can even have a mushroom in it that draws black waves...so amazing !
Dude, so good. Reminds me of a Disney character!
Thank you so much Bobby! Yes i must agree there. Hats off to those who actually make sculptures following accurate anatomy. For me its just much more fun to go for whimsical fantasy, and more relaxing!
as soon as I read the title, I thought, there is no such thing... owls cannot pivot their eyes inside their orbits, at all, they're fixed. may have something to do with why they can rotate their heads around over 360 degrees.
J,
Very much appreciate you sharing errors and mistakes. Especially the unsafe use of your band saw. Very good!
Having worked with heavy machinery and industrial tools all my life, I saw regrettable incidents.
Tools and machines are wonderful, but must be respected and the operator must have a heightened awareness and control during use.
Thank you for sharing and coaching us to be smart and safe.
The Owl is so beautiful!
I have completed carving my wife’s favorite pet kitty. The eyes, as always, evoked a lot of anxiety, to get the desired results. I suppose that is appropriate… “Eyes are the window to the soul”.
Looking forward to the next creation.
Best
Thank you! Ye the eyes are scary to work on! Ye i figured i should add accidents that happens to make people aware
An exhibition is a great idea! It would be so cool seeing all your projects side by side :))
With the 'Sketches' alongside the Art.
Thank you! Ye i hope it will create some hype for my work
Awesome work Jonas
Thank you so much andy!
I started sculpting thanks to you (2 years ago), for which I'm grateful. Your drawing skills are impressive !
Thank you for letting me know! I hope you are able to create some awesome stuff!
Great sculpture. My favorite so far is the wolf cub. I liked how his dark walnut body contrasted with the lighter area on his face and paw. Just gorgeous and full of character! I really enjoy when you apply the oil to your pieces...it reveals their true character.
Thank you! Interesting, yes that contrast really did the wolf cub a favour!. absolutely, the oil part is my favourite part!
I am continually amazed at how you turn your amazing sketches into incredible sculptures that truly capture the spirit (and charm) of the original. Genius! :-)
Thank you so much! the challenge of capturing a certain look definitely makes the process more interesting
It reminds me of the owl in the old Disney cartoon movie, Bambi. Serious yet gentle. 🤎🤎
Wonderful work, Jonas! I love the owl's "fat" winter feathers and its expression! It looks healthy, happy.. in awe of the night sky ... I very much agree with you about kind expressions and the world needing it. I'm sure your exhibition at the end of the year will be wonderful! As for what you said about pricing ... definitely keep an eye on how many hours you work on your project, and consider giving yourself "an hourly salary". That plus expenses ... should probably make a decent asking price. And considering you're a true artists, who creates one of a kind pieces (like I do),.. you can also factor that into your price. I think you'll find that people who truly love your work, will be willing to spend a lot on it to own one of your sculptures! ;)
Thank you so much Iona! Yeah the owl had to be fat to stay warm in the cold night :D I am very excited when i decide to sell them. It will be superinteresting, but i have no expectations.
There are some things that are created for the joy of creation, and some of those things are priceless.
Ask yourself if you really want to give it up, and what price would prevent you from regretting your decision to let it go…
I'm very impressed with the owl itself. But my mouth truly dropped when I saw your "sketches" of the stargazer
Same, absolutely insane. Like a publication.
Eindrucksvoll!
Immer wieder tolle Ergebnisse.
-
Love this concept and the way it turned out! The texture and roots of the branch are just beautiful, and I love the owl’s personality.
Thank you!
"I will start with some sketches"
Fyi he means fully realized pieces of artwork drawn in 4 slightly different ways. Amazing.
Haha yeah gotta get those concepts down on paper haha. Cant wait to have a sketchbook tour
Glad to see you back. You do great work and I enjoy watching your videos and what you create.
1 million euros for this art work !
because it is a unique work of art in the known universe made by a unique artist from a unique piece of wood!
It looks amazing! I agree with your wish to capture joyful expressions. Thanks for filming and sharing it. It added joy to our day!
Thank you for the heartwarming comment! Yes i am trying to focus on happy motives for my sculptures. It does affect my mood in a positive way
крутая работа! браво мастеру! а так же здоровья, терпения и творческих успехов!
Oh my goodness! I love owls ❤! 🦉. Your sketches are impressive indeed. However, your carving, sculpting, really makes those sketches come to life. Thank you for sharing 😮.
You are never a disappointment...I always look forward to your videos...Great Job!!!
Thank you so much! The support means a lot to me!
That turned out beautifully! Love the expression on his face!
Simply beautiful. I really enjoy wood as a medium and thoroughly enjoy watching you reimagine your drawings (which I like for themselves) into a wooden sculpture - awesome process to watch with a beautiful result.
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and kind words
Very nice. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your creations over the coming months. Very impressive
What an incredible turnout, very excited to see your journey!
I think this one is also my favourite of your sculptures from this year. It turned out so good!
Thank you so much!
Jonas: Don't do what I do! Very dangerous!!
haha! Gorgeous, as always!
Thank you! Yepp haha dont do like me :D
I just found my way to doing crafts and I’m learning how to do beaded jewelry and wood carving. I’m really vibing with your energy and approach to the projects. It seems you allow the piece to speak back during the process and not forcing “your will” on the piece. Great job on your work and count me as a new subscriber 👍🏾
You do amazing work! I love the owl it looks awestruck and happy looking at the stars. Thanks
Thank you so much! I am very reliefed the expression ended up alright
Truly amazing work Jonas!!!! So happy you are healthy and back to making videos! Stay safe my guy
Thank you so much! Yes i am to, It is so valuable to me to be able to do this a little bit every day
Very nice work Jonas.
Wow! And the sketches are superb too! Very well done sir.
Most beautiful carving I have ever seen ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! It is one of the favourite things i have made
Completely agree with you Jonas - this world needs more glad-looking owls! Although my favourite is still the otter, this one has turned out spectacular. Those oiling shots were perfect, btw. Amazing to see wood coming to life. Thank you for sharing!
Yes very true! Yeah the Otter displays and interesting motive. Thank you, yeah i tried to make it pleasing to the eye
Your sculptures always look amazing.
Thank you!!
Thank you! This is very interesting and informative! The owl turned out to be very charming, with mood, and very decorative! Great job!
Thank you! Yeah i try to come to with interesting stuff to say and share with you my toughts through the journey
You are a real artist, it is very beautiful. Good luck with your project! ❤
This is my favorite of all your sculptures so far.
Thank you! Might be mine as well. Sort of marks the beginning of a new era for me
It came out amazing!!! Such a happy, awestruck look 💜
Thank you so much! I am very happy with it. Now onto the next happy carving haha
Beautiful piece
Great job!
Beautiful!
Im hyped for the next Project!
Fantastic job on the owl
Love this owl the most of the 3, the feathers on the back seem thick and soft and I want to touch them lol. An exhibition would be wonderful (please film if possible!), and while you are a sculptor, please don't devalue your sketches. Those could also be considered art and i'm sure prints of them could sell, and would really help tell the story if displayed in the exhibition; it is super interesting to see the whole process develop.
When it comes to pricing you should treat this like a small business. There are the obvious factors: costs + time + profit. The simplest part is how much do tools, materials, electricity, workshop heat, etc cost you. Then the hardest part is figuring out how much time you spend on each piece (including conceptualization, sketching, carving, sanding, finishing, etc). This likely isn't a straight line as creativity isn't predictable and it may be hard to recognize as work because i'm sure take pleasure in your passions, but acknowledge that it is a work product, and something to be compensated for. Time tracking apps or a simple log page in your sketch book may help; people tend to believe they do things faster than they actually do. Lastly, and while easier than the factual costs, will feel the hardest, is profit. How much do you want to make? How do you personally value your creativity and talent. How much do you think others value your skill?
The standard way would be to calculate your costs, put a dollar value on your time, do the math and then add a profit margin of x%. That's fine and will work, but you limit your potential if x is too low, and you set a precedent. You could also start with a target salary and divide it by the number of sculptures a year (current target of 12) and then add your material costs and get a number that way, which also works, but you potentially devalue your time if some sculptures take significantly more time than others. You have the extra variable that this is unique one of a kind art. There is a supply of 1 of each object. Unlike sketches and paintings, you probably aren't going to do reproductions/prints. That creates scarcity which can have tremendous value.
FWIW it would be cool if you looked into trying a cast to do reproductions in bronze or epoxy, or maybe even a 3d scan to do 'prints'. Could be another line of business, some cool videos, and make your art more accessible, but I wouldn't want you to do anything that distracts you from your passion of creating beautiful wood sculptures.
I agree he should exhibit the drawings in the show...keep the original drawing and offer a signed 1 of 1 copy to the buyer of the owl at a price...🌿🌿🌿
Thanks for the long and interesting input. It would be easier to think about it this way. I will try this method out to see what i arrive at.
Absolutely beautiful owl carving . ❤
Great to see you back at it Jonas. UA-cam wasn't the same without you!
Thank you! Its great to be back with a plan!
Amazing work.
Absolutely beautiful work on that Owl sculpture Jonas! 👍👍🦉🦉
Thank you so much!
Beautiful work, Jonas!
Thank you! I really appreciate that
Thank you for sharing your amazing work. I watched this after spending 4 hours with a chainsaw struggling to find a sure way to shape the head and eyes. I I see you rounded the head large, set in the tufts on top of the head, then carved in the eye ball deep, then cut in the feathers around the eyeball. This order of roughing out makes a big difference in balancing the carving.
Such a talent! My favourite is a sleeping cub from next visit I believe! Can't wait to see it finished!
Thank you so much! Ye i think it will be hard to decide for me between this and the bear cub when its finished
Wow that looks Amazing
Thanks Jonas, great video and just love that owl👏

Jonas, as have to say as a fellow woodcarver and bird nut, I absolutely love this owl project. Very inspiring. Bravo
Thank you so much! Yeah it was very fun to make a bird, definitely not the last one!
Turned out great, feathers, the details around the eyes, the fixing of the hole. Looks like you had a good time! Up to the next one, and that chainsaw 😀
Thank you so much! Yeah i had a good time with this one. Especially adding the small details

those sketches are.... GOD LEVEL
it is very nice to see you at work and I find it very interesting to see how you correct the imperfections of the wood or the errors
Thank you so much!
Very nice work, what you can conjure up everything, with some craftsmanship, great . A small Jonas Olsen Woodcraft van Gogh 😉
Outstanding
Beautiful !!!
I prefer the whimsical rather than fierce as well. The world has more expressions of anger and agression than it needs.
First video of yours that I've seen and I'm looking forward to seeing others.
Subbed
Excellent!!! I love owls!!! You have given my an idea. I am going to try and suspended my Dremel from the ceiling on a retractable cable!!! Got to try!! thank you!
Thank you! Yeah it is probably smart. I move around so much that i find it hard to use a suspended dremel
You are an amazing artist!
Thank you so much!
I think my favorite is... the one that you work on in your videos... I don't have a lesser favorite everyone is absolutely Gorgeous and worth thousands...
Simplesmente incrível! Admiro muito esse tipo de arte.

Wonderful! Subscribed!
Очень симпатично, талантливо и трудоёмко, Респект и уважение!
ooooh what a beauty!
An observation: I too, am a wood sculptor. I have used exotic woods from the world over. Patch and or fill as many holes and checks berfore starting to sculpt. It always worked better doe me. Great work! You are talented!!
Thank you! Yes i guess it is best to address those defects in the start
Gorgeous piece 🤗. Well done!
Thank you! :D
Hello Jonas, I have been wondering about you and how you have been. So happy to see your carving. Amazing
Magnificent!
Beautiful
Another beautiful sculpture :D Can't wait to see the bear, the sketches look great
Thank you! i am too very excited to see the finished bear, i just got to make it first haha :D
@@Jonasolsenwoodcraft hehe
I have seen so many examples of anatomically perfect owl sculptures and, while I can appreciate the technical expertise involved in carving them, I wouldn’t want to own them.
BUT…
The whimsical style and playful design of your owl, combined with that same technical expertise makes me wish I could afford to buy him!
Beautiful, Joyful, and absolutely brilliant 💕
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words a lot!
Fantastic, love it , very talented 👏 👌
Прекрасная работа, великолепное знание темы, браво
amazing wood carving
Thank you!
Beautiful owl 👌🤗💫
Thank you so much!
Walnut usually have this hole at the center, I work this lovely wood for years now, and I've never been disappointed. Good work !
Interesting! Well it is a thing i can live with. Absolutely, walnut is incerdibly beatiful. I do want to try other types to to get familiar with them
