@@magnumxlpi It’s a bit of a myth that they don’t like warm water. White sharks are everywhere except for the very warmest and very coldest seas. We just didn’t know about it until recently. They migrate down to Florida in the winter from the northeast US and Canadian waters. Some of them head around the peninsula into the Gulf and Caribbean. It is believed that hundreds of years ago there was a thriving white shark population in the Caribbean and Gulf, because there was a huge population of Caribbean monk seals. There were reports from the 1500s of sharks that were much bigger and more dangerous than all the native sharks and were also found in Spanish waters, which pretty much means they could only be white sharks. But the Spanish nearly wiped out the seals, and they were extinct by the 20th century. This drove down the white shark population in the area as well. I’m sure they have still been here in small numbers the whole time, but the recent rise in white shark numbers and the increase in the numbers of people fishing and diving with portable video recorders (as well as satellite tracking of sharks) has greatly increased, so we’re more aware of their presence now.
