Who came here after the grand tour?
you mean, seamen !
Ramila jayawardhena watching the grand tour right now !
Me too
Yes 😂😂😂
Yepppp
Just read that the actor who played Dith Pran actually survived 3 Cambodian prison camps using his medical knowledge to live of beetles, scorpions etc before escaping to Vietnam, then goes on to relive it all in a film. That's one impressive man if you ask me.
Survives all that only to be shot dead by some punks in the US
He escaped to Thailand, not Vietnam.
After Vietnamese forces invaded Cambodia in 1979 and seized control of territory, Dith escaped from a commune near Siem Reap and trekked 40 miles, dodging both Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge forces, to reach a border refugee camp in Thailand.
@@christnumber2 That is always what kills me. I remember hearing that news when it happened.
@@christnumber2 That Punk name is PANCREATIC CANCER....🤦🤦
Thanks Clarkson be watching this
:D
Just watching Grand tour and jumped to this. Thanks Jezza
Same here
Lol .........snap
I came here because of clarkson
Just got done watching The Grand Tour Cambodia, Clarkson gave this movie his blessing as a must watch. Didn’t even know it existed.
What did you think of the movie?
@@LeakenaDollI can't find it? The grand tour Cambodia
@@Kazmat834 it's on Amazon Prime... The Grand Tour Season 4 Episode 1
@Kazmat834 its on amazon prime
Grand tour brought me here
I'm a simple man, if Lord Jeremy Clarkson says watch it, I'll watch it.
Clarkson got me here !
CLARKSON....
Giving this a watch thanks to Jeremy Clarkson
Clarkson did not get me here. My mom is a Cambodian refugee from the time of the killing fields. But good for more people to learn about it. It's rarely mentioned in schools.
Who’s here after jezza told us to watch this
Yup
No, but explains why it was recommended
Yes sir
Here.
I am here to watch the movie afters Jezzas heart filled appeal
I remember going towards the theater and I saw a woman rushing out of the door sobbing uncontrollably...then I knew the movie was going to be emotionally powerful...and it truly was.
And today Henry Kissinger has died aged 100. “Once you’ve been to Cambodia, you’ll never stop wanting to beat Henry Kissinger to death with your bare hands.
- Anthony Bourdain
Great comment. He also signed the kill order to get rid of Charles Horman in Chilean coup as documented in the compelling film "Missing".
RIP Sydney Schanberg (January 17, 1934 - July 9, 2016), aged 82
RIP Haing S. Ngor (March 22, 1940 - February 25, 1996), aged 55
RIP Dith Pran (September 23, 1942 - March 30, 2008), aged 65

You will be remembered as legends.
Didn't know he passed away. A year before I was born
lol
It's a movie. How will he be remembered? Stop
I saw this movie when I was 13, now Im 41. The Images haunt me to this Day. Bone chilling. As well a decent movie. One of a Kind.
I was only 9 or 10 in 84. Haven’t watched it since and definitely need to watch it again as an adult. Great movie.
You were too young to be watching such a movie at that age.
“A film that will challenge you, change you & never let you forget”
Telling me… jeez !
Watched this in the ICU one night whilst on heavy painkillers, it’s since had a proud affect on me. It’s provocative viewing & not for the faint hearted
Now.. I’m very fond of it, sheer film making brilliance.
Special thanks to Clarkson for sharing this
Exact same reason for me. Clarkson OBE thank you.
One of the best films I have watched. A true story as well.
I remember going towards the theater and I see a woman rushing out of the door sobbing uncontrollably...then I knew the movie was going to be emotionally powerful...and it truly was.
I was a Khmer Rouge soldier. Was force to join the revolution at a young age. I was brainwash to do horrible things to the so call enemies of the revolution. The screams and begging for mercy still haunts my dreams. I know there is a special place in hell for me.
I've now become a Christian and I ask god for forgiveness and he has to oblige, so I think I'll be safe from hell now.
How old were you then?
Amen to you Sir
God does not have to do anything.
In my opinion still the BEST movie of its kind. I also recommend watching and carefully listening to the directors Commentary.
True story films like this should be talked about more often because it demonstrates and shows how true it was and how this happened and every time I watch a true story film, it surprises me because I felt sorry for Cambodia because of this film. Good thing this was nominated for Best Picture.
I was so happy to see that Dr. Haing S. Ngor won Best Supporting Actor for his role in this film. He was mesmerizing. That was the only time that two Asians were nominated in any of the acting categories in the same year. (The other nominee was Pat Morita for The Karate Kid)
One of the saddest films I have ever watched, amazing masterpiece and a stunning soundtrack by Mike Oldfield.
So what did you learn from it?
I remember going towards the theater and I saw a woman rushing out of the door sobbing uncontrollably...then I knew the movie was going to be emotionally powerful...and it truly was.
This needs to be required watching for every student in the USA with a mandatory book report to graduate.
This movie for watching & the Documentary Shoah & the books Night by Eli Wiesel & Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankel for reading.
Man that's dark bro.
I just watched The grand tour again for the 50th time and finally got to watch this.
Thanks Jezza aka Clarkson 👍
Superb film. Never forget the vile atrocities that occurred.
I saw this movie when it first came out. This movie had a profound impact on me.
The current situation in Afganistan brought this movie back into my memory.
yes, I was thinking same thing. My family are refugees from Cambodia and are here in the states now. My heart breaks and ache for the Afghans refugees right now.
Just came across this film on Prime after watching a vietnam documentary. This is an absolute brilliant film 👍 🇬🇧
yes! a film every generation should watch and not forgotten.
One of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
The greatest War Movie of All Time! JM is the greatest actor of our generation 15 years before his Iconic Rounders Role.
Greatest Masterpiece and most valuable film work of the 1980's
Had this on cassette, watched it like a thousand times.
One of the best films of all time.

I remember reading your comment about 20 times now
I miss 80s and 90s movie trailer narration
The real story in Cambodia, but now Cambodia is very good country
Crazy coincidence...In 1990 I ended up living in Long Beach and Dr. Haing S. Ngor was one of my neighbors! Years later Spalding Gray (who played the ambassador's assistant) Interviewed me for an hour and a half on stage in Ann Arbor doing one of his shows.
Clarkson sent me here. However, im surprised to see John Malkovich here. Last time i saw him, he was in a garage, afraid of light or something.
unforgetable moovie :)
I find some similarity between this movie and that of mel gibson " the year that we lived dangerously. Nevertheless , this one seems to me more authentic and real since the plot was not about the usual love story in the middle of chaos but the endevour of a professional journalist to cover the news for a highly serious magazine and interpreted by an avarege-looking man who is a solid good character actor while the other is still a good entertaining one however is more focused on comercial success with the very good-looking star of the day mel gibson who is a gentleman, meets the beautiful lady sigourney weaver, they fell in love and escape to hapiness!!!
As soon as Imagine starts playing at the end I always tear up 😪
This is an incredible film
1:39 epic film
Thanks Clarkson!!! Would have passed this by!
80's films! the best!
Yes, to clarify, an 80s film taking place a decade earlier!
Real story in Cambodia
So pity my Cambodian people 😔
I saw the trailer and it is horrifying and made goosebumps. It saddend to watch how ppl suffered that time. we can't imagine the pain, brutal deaths they faced. :(
That actor works on Law and Order, great actor, I never saw this movie, its the first time that knowit

It's true story of my country 😟
Dear, I used to read The Reader's Digest in 1990th decade. Where I read the real story when S. Nore was surviving. That was the addition of August 1989. I was so sad to read about Khemere Ru and Cambodian Civil War. Today, after 22 year back I am trying to search in U Tube. I keep this book in safe always. I just finished the long story, while it is darkened. It is the lovely summer of 28th May 2021. We live near high Himalayan range of Uttarakhand India. I am poet and story writter. I am 65. S. Nore died in 2008 when he was 65. I learnt a lot to read it. How he suffered some years of his life, the story emphasis me how to fight with troubles.
History of Cambodia.

I watched the first 10 minutes just now on DVD, and the New York Times reporter seems like a real schnott already.

I bought this movie in Cambodia in 2013
What did TMZ say about it ?
I'm from Cambodia 🇰🇭🇰🇭😥😥
Right. But I don't know why the USA and other Asian countries supported to Pol Pot at that time...
The USA supported the Khmer rouge after 1980. Not before. It was due to the vietnamese communist invasion
@@AR15SP1 yes of course !
😭🇰🇭💔
Cheers Jeremy clarkson 👌🏻
This movie is real life of Cambodia
Like a sad end, the dr hang S Ngor a few years ago was murdered for Khemer Rouge, in L A, because his role in this movie.
No, it was a plain robbery. That's the irony. The man was a survivor of 4 years of Pol Pot's regime. He was imprisoned and tortured almost to death three times. He survived all of that, only to get killed in a plain robbery, in LA.
@@blackboxsda7853 No, you're wrong. Dutch the huge criminal, boss or warden of the S 21 prison confessed it. All was a disguise for kill to dr Ngor.
@@javi_2022 Source, please? First time I hear about this. I thought Dutch is a born again Christian.
@@saber8156 Dutch was his nickname. You can look for this history in UA-cam. Dutch was condemned to life in prison a few years ago, perhaps 10, but unfortunately he died in prison recently. S 21 was a school turned to prison and a centre of torture by the khmer rouge.
Who's here after watching Jeremy Clarkson on The Grand Tour?
Voiceover guy didn’t en say the actors’ names.
Can't believe this is Sol
The killling Field the movie. was a story of Cnst. Pol Pot
Where is the movie? I want to see Nore in that movie. From India. Jay Kedar
It’s hurt
It's really good.
Ironically i was a kid when i saw this movie while the philippines was under martial law...
Watched movie 3 times. Tough movie to watch. Read autobiography of dith Praha. Worth book to read
Ih, we forgot that lesson in it's entirety...
Flawless movie....except for that John Lennon song at the end
Why would you possibly have a problem with the John Lennon song?
BoutYoungAnnaLee it’s simply a hypocritical song, that’s all. This is my favourite movie of all time and I can see why the filmmakers were trying to convey a seemingly “positive” and feel-good song to end the movie. But for a song that sports such lyrics as “Imagine no possessions/ I wonder if you can/ No need for greed or hunger..." John sure exhibited hypocrisy through his lavish lifestyle. He also openly donated large sums of funds to the Irish terrorist group the IRA, which negated his proclamations of "peace" and "love”. So that’s my whole issue really. I do love the music of The Beatles though :)
@@hellionsentinel There's no evidence he gave money to the IRA, though there are rumours.
Lennon was torn because of the atrocities committed by the British soldiers namely that which came to be known as Bloody Sunday. He was outraged by it, as any decent human being would be. It wasn't that he was for the IRA as much as he was against Government troops carrying out illegal occupations and indiscriminately slaughtering civilians. The IRA of that time (and this) are maniacs, no question. With the benefit of hind-site, history and retrospect you and I can see how wrong-footed showing any kind of support for the IRA is (Though there is perhaps an argument to say that one could admire from afar the achievements of founder of the IRA Michael Collins who created a small army who employed carefully considered guerilla tactics to gain a small but crucial foothold in the war for a free Ireland). Anyways, Lennon himself was a man of determination. He was a sharp mind and a blunt force. When he wanted something he generally got it (i.e Domination of the western pop culture is never going to be achieved by a gentle, subtle man). He was quick to react, fight and retaliate if he got upset or felt bullied or pushed around. I expect that, if he considered giving anything to the IRA at all, it was because he felt that he wanted to lash out at the greater bullying powers that were delivering such brutality to a much weaker people.
I'm with on the Beatles music sir!
Fair enough. I, too, get angry when I think of the atrocities committed by the British. One would think that in order to oppose the British on the Irish issue, one would have to side with IRA. While it would make sense, think of the implications it would carry (being labeled as a supporter of a “terrorist organization”. I see what you’re saying and by the way, Bloody Sunday is in my top 10 movies of all time.
It's a damn crime that Julian Sands is not among those names. 😠
Watching in Harare...thanks to Clarkson
I’ve seen this before my mrs is from North East Thailand, but I came here from Schindlers List

Some ppl who love only the past tragic that happened 400 years ago are nowhere to be found on this comment section. In their mind their ancestors were the only people who suffered from genocide or death. This is a true story that happened less than than 50 yrs ago. Not 400. These Cambodian ppl are not savage. They have a written history, language and culture. They were not hunter gatherers
