    Believe it or not I am using this same video for instruction on how to do the same on my 2014 Yamaha SR Viper xtx, starting to squeal a little , great helpful video , nice work!

    Thank you for taking time to do this video. I just purchased a 95 vmax 500, belt would chirp at idle, also when sled was blocked up track would spin. Today Jan 21 2016 i did as you showed in video and it worked great! Thanks again from northern Minnesota.

    My belt sets below the top of the pulley about 1/16 inch. If I add shims, the belt should ride higher. would this make the clutch engagement come in a little quicker and will this change top end speed slightly?

    Question I have a 2000 Vmax 700 triple how many pounds of torque do you crank them down to when you’re done for both the shaft bolt and the ones on the clutch?

    • @luvmygarage7184
      @luvmygarage7184  4 роки тому

      I didn't have access to those torque specs so I just tightened them firmly.

    So what to do if all the shims are out and sled still moving forward at idle? belt squeaking every stop....

      wrong belt?? try a longer one??

    • @j.films0942
      @j.films0942 4 роки тому

      That would never happen if you have the correct belt All the shims do is just give it minor adjustment to get it perfect

    I have a 96 polaris ultra so,belt sounds like a muffled machine gun and the asked is jerking at slow speeds. Cleaned up secondary and got new belt with no luck. And ideas?

    • @luvmygarage7184
      @luvmygarage7184  9 років тому +1

      Hmm. Hard to say Jason. The jerking would make me think the belt is shot, but you took care of that. Possible bad bearing on either end of the drive shaft or the jack shaft. Look for some play in either of those two shafts and see what you think. Bearings are not terribly expensive and not too tough to change

    This is not deflection adjustment. It is sheave spacing adjustment. They are different. Deflection is the offset between the backside of the primary and the backside of the secondary.

    I have the exact opposite problem. I have to rev the engine to 2000 rpm's just to get the machine to move at all. I know nothing about snowmobiles. Any suggestions? 2000 Yamaha VMax 500

      I think I would start with a good cleaning of your primary and secondary clutches. then inspect the weights and springs and look for anything that looks worn or broken. My guess is that your clutch needs some updating and/or repair due to age. hard to say without looking at it, but I am pretty sure that there will be some wear that is causing your delay.

      2000? That's nothing. It shouldn't start pulling til 3500-4000 or so.

    yes that is an adjustment and yes you had a problem but I wouldnt of addressed your said problem as you did . first , deflection is side to side as in a straight line . just saying . secondly you want the belt to ride 1/8th to 3/8ths out of the driven clutch for maximum low gearing shift out . the higher it rides in the driven the more low off idle grunt it will have . without seeing your machine I don't know the exact problem it has but I would have adjusted / cleaned the primary clutch and checked engine deflection first . you do know by adding unnecessary slack in the belt you effectively increased primary clutch stall and made it grabby as the primary snaps shut onto the belt instead of smooth engagement. I would have shimmed the primary spacer 10k and all would have been good . not intending to be condescending just educating .

      How do you adjust the primary spacer ?

    Would this adjustment be the same for a 99 vmax 700? My belt is squealing at idle and the sled is wanting to crawl ahead.

    • @luvmygarage7184
      @luvmygarage7184  10 років тому +1

      Sean Adey Hey Sean. My sled was a Mountain Max 700 and I am 99% sure that the V Max is uses the same system. I would pull it apart just like I showed you and I will bet you that the same 8 mm bolts will be on the back of your secondary clutch as well. Remember, remove shims to loosen the belt and add shims to tighten the belt.

    • @Sean-oq3ox
      @Sean-oq3ox 10 років тому

      Thanks! It worked. My sled no longer wants to crawl ahead when idling.

    The deflction...is in the belt...not the clutch
