The voyage took them all the way to Ketchikan and became an epic journey that would later be retold to Nate and his brother. Determined to reinvigorate the legend, Nate convinced his father, uncle, and brother to embark on another trip. In the summer of 2017, the Dappens renovated those original canoes and continued their expedition on to Juneau.

The Inside Passage is a labyrinth of straits and islands that extends from Washington to Alaska. What are your thoughts on this family's epic canoe trip?

This is a really beautiful and inspiring storytelling. Love the idea of taking up where the last trip ended, as if continuing a legacy. This should be kept as a family tradition, challenging the great outdoors and doing it with people you love most. Overall, a very well made video. Thank you so much for sharing National Geographic.

By the end I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes. The part about our parents becoming older got to me.

Hi Samabrata! Thanks so much for the compliments on the film. I used a handful of cameras to make this film. I shot the aerials with the Inspire 2 with X5s gimbal and on the expedition I used the DJI Mavic. Then, we shot most of it on the Sony FS5, Sony A7sii, 5D4, DJI OSMO with X5 and a few GoPros. So, lots of different cameras for lots of different situations!

Wonderful and what an amazing story. Thanks so much for sharing. Must admit that I shedded a few tears as I never had the chance to go on an adventure or even a trip with my parents. My dad is in heaven watching over us now ... left this earth way too early !!!

Great story! I recognized the style of canoe. I built the 17’ version in my garage. The summer or ‘18 I took it the Minnesota and paddled off into the wilderness with my 17 year old son! That too made a great life chapter
