If they become the reason for a cure for breast cancer, I want to see them as a scarily-huge mascot for breast cancer. Can have Floats and parades of cancer awareness and of the future of cancers being beaten. The one representing Breast cancer isn't humans, or human females.... but just a giant mascot of the sydney funnel web spider.
It turns out that a hairy and scary looking spider with fangs to rival Dracula has venom that can kill humans but also has the potential to cure cancer. When researches exposed components of the venom to breast cancer cells they died. Find our more in our video.
One area of the Funnel Web spider's venom I am fascinated to explore is the function of the peptides that cause motor neurons to force fire in humans and other primates if bitten, If this can be studied on a deeper level then everything from preventing brain damage in stroke victims to reversing or stopping the effects of Motor Neuron Disease could potentially follow.
+Four Dog Awww thanks. I think it is a case of slowly slowly and we're still learning about how we can get our video out there in as many platforms possible.
I used to be obsessed with this spider, knew everything about it, this brought back a few memories haha. Hope to see a video on the irukandji sometime in the near future!
The Tall Walnut I can understand why, it's a pretty impressive spider. So you want to see a video on the Irukandji hey? Hmmm watch this space grasshopper ;)
Peter Pepper We must admit that one of our team did feel a little the same to our amusement. Glad you're enjoying the channel. Happy to receive any feedback or suggestions. We have some really cool animals coming up which I'm sure you'll enjoy.
I saw the box jellyfish video shared on Reddit, and have proceeded to watch all of your videos. You earnt a subscribe from me, love the videos cant wait to see more!
+TeeOCee You my friend are an absolute superstar! Thanks for the feedback and the share on Reddit. We're just trying to get out heads around Reddit, so it's nice to have a helping hand. :)
The funnel web spider is a lot bigger in reality than I thought it was growing up. I don't know why, but I always thought adult funnel web spiders were the size of the small garden variety spiders found back home, which don't get larger than a US quarter at best. Now I know better.
The most venomous spider in the world is the Brazilian wandering spider, but the Sydney funnel web spider is the second most venomous spider in the world
Really cool spider! Wish that the narrator had discussed more about how the venom worked to kill breast cancer cells. Exactly what type of CA cells it was used on & if this was an in vitro or in vivo application? IF what he is saying is true, then why isn't more money being spent to do research on this potential cure??
The Sydney funnel web is not the most venomous spider in the world. That title is held by another Australian funnel web, the Northern tree funnel web Hadronyche formidabilis
The wandering spider has arguably more toxic venom but it is extremely slow acting and doesnt usually inject fatal amounts. A funnel web could kill you much faster. id take a wandering bite over a funnel web bite ANY day.
im confused...when i was a kid the funnel web was the worlds most deadly...a few years later the Brazilian wandering spider surfaces as something much more venomous. now back at the intro to the funnel web being the most venomous...which one is it? what ive found is the funnel web still hides from people doesnt seek out kills and keeps to it self. the wandering spider has been known to attack barefoot children in the street in broad day sending them to the hospital. but which one has taken more lives and which ones venom is actually stronger? anyone know? i get mixed answers online so thats why im asking
Jesse Myers the most venomous spider in the world is the Northern tree funnel web (Hadronyche formidabilis), second is the Darling downs funnel web (Hadronyche infensa), after that come the Brazilian wandering spiders (Phoneutria sp) and Sydney funnel web (Atrax robustus)
One of you came here because of Spider-Man Reign, right? Well, in that story, Spider-Man's sperm gave his wife cancer. I searched "spider-cancer" and came here.
***** I'm 25 and I've never stepped on one. Also, I live like 2 minutes from a hospital with anti-venom, if ever it happened. Either way, Funnel Webs have a tendency to raise their fangs towards the foot of someone stepping on them, so even with thin-soled shoes, I'd most likely get hit.
+ajnode Also they can bite through thin shoes and toenails, and when they do bite you they tend to latch on and keep biting until you pull them off. Just some food for thought there.
I had to watch it twice or three times because I couldn't focus due to the spider...ugh so creepy😖 I know spiders are useful animals...I just don't want them near me🙈💦
Ok so I've watched ALL your videos now and the top thing I always wonder is: why do you touch them with your bare hands? Seriously? A finger against the spider's fangs??? I've since learnt from the comments that the stonefish is docile and you only have to keep away from the spikes in the back, and gloves are no good when you handle big box jellyfish (and if you are a professional obviously). But in my world, the best tool would probably be flamethrower, so I'm thinking it might be interesting for more people than me to hear a bit more about f.ex. how aggressive they are, and why it it safe (again, for a professional) to handle them in the way you do. Other than that I can only say I LOVE your work, have obviously subscribed and I think more people will follow. I've understood you're trying to find out what length of videos is best and I agree with those who feel this is on the shorter side, but I would watch no matter what length! Keep up the good work!
Spider??? with 10 Leg? vertical fang? hehehhehhehe This what we call TARANTULA. Google please what the different between spider and TARANTULA. So funny when someone so call scientists make a silly mistake!!!
The Sydney funnel-web spider (Atrax robustus) is a species of venomous mygalomorph spider native to eastern Australia, usually found within a 100 km (62 mi) radius of Sydney. It is a member of a group of spiders known as Australian funnel-web spiders. Its bite is capable of causing serious injury or death in humans if left untreated. So funny when random jihads think they are smarter than everyone. Obviously you didn't google it.
I was going to Australia for a vacation, saw this video and canceled my trip..
You've just got to throw the whole country away
Not sure our families would be too happy about that and then we would have no jobs :(
No don't, the spiders will cross the sea to other continents
😂😂😂😂
wouldn't live 20-25 years if it came in my house
LMAO
Lmao
If you see one of them in your Hose its Time to buy a new one
It turns out that a hairy and scary looking spider with fangs to rival Dracula has venom that can kill humans but also has the potential to cure cancer. When researches exposed components of the venom to breast cancer cells they died. Find our more in our video.
What organization is doing the research on using the venom of this spider to attack cancer cells?
One area of the Funnel Web spider's venom I am fascinated to explore is the function of the peptides that cause motor neurons to force fire in humans and other primates if bitten, If this can be studied on a deeper level then everything from preventing brain damage in stroke victims to reversing or stopping the effects of Motor Neuron Disease could potentially follow.
I've never been more uncomfortable for 3 mins than this.
It makes me uncomfortable how close you are to the spider. :)
+GranVlog You wouldn't be the only one. One of our team members took a little convincing to come out of hiding :)
+GranVlog Think of how the spider feels with a giant human(the worlds deadliest animal) so close to it
the spider biting the fake finger made me cringe
i can't believe you're not that popular on youtube with such a quality contents
+Four Dog Awww thanks. I think it is a case of slowly slowly and we're still learning about how we can get our video out there in as many platforms possible.
Love your videos and the content! It would be awesome to have more videos from you.
+Abhishek Pillai We're working on it and have just released a new one. Let us know what you think.

When can we expect full length documentaries on National Geographic? I'd watch it a few million times.
The funnel web spider is a lot bigger in reality than I thought it was growing up. I don't know why, but I always thought adult funnel web spiders were the size of the small garden variety spiders found back home, which don't get larger than a US quarter at best. Now I know better.
great production value.
+CoryBaker92 Thanks for the feedback it's much appreciated. We're currently developing some more, so subscribe to be notified when they're up :)
So ladies, who’s ready for their cancer curing spider bite?
The most venomous spider in the world is the Brazilian wandering spider, but the Sydney funnel web spider is the second most venomous spider in the world
Really cool spider! Wish that the narrator had discussed more about how the venom worked to kill breast cancer cells. Cancer is on an individual basses so it could potentially work for some but be inefective to others
How do you make your animated segment of your super-cool videos?
love your channel, keep up the good work ^^
MieFah Awww that warms our cold hearts ;) Just out of curiosity how did you come across us??
The Nature of Science I'm here because of Smarter Every Day. Definitely would not have found this channel otherwise.
+Opulopful Stratix Thanks, it's really helpful for us to see where people are coming from. We love Destin's work, he's an absolute champion.
"A spider that could cure cancer". Who knew cancer was just one type of thing.....
The fake finger part always makes me cringe before i realize its fake
The Sydney funnel web is not the most venomous spider in the world. That title is held by another Australian funnel web, the Northern tree funnel web Hadronyche formidabilis
Do these Spiders get milked for Anti-Venom at The Australian Reptile Park?
is the sydney funnel web related to trapdoor spiders? i ask because the exoskeletons of both species seem a bit similar
I thought the wandering spider was the most venomous.
1:39 i thought that finger was a burrito
are they true spiders because they have alot of tarantula characteristics
Fantastic show.
EddyGurge Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated.
This spider is indeed extremely venomous but it is not the most venomous spider in the world. The Brazilian wanderer is.
Subscribed
+Rafa Beton Yaayyy welcome :)
I though the Brazilian wandering spider had more deadly venom?
They say “more about that another time” but I can never find another time😨
How do the marsupial predators prevent getting bitten?
Good vid thanks guys
20 deaths in Australia, ever? Or per year?
EDIT: Ah OK, ever. Wow, we did pretty well.
Ever :)
The Nature of Science phew 😅
Actually it's 2nd to the brizan wandering spider
do a video on Russell's Viper's venom please.
where can i buy this thing
A low sugar and alkaline diet plus excercise and oxygen therapy should cure cancer also dont stress.
Isn't it also one of the oldest, if not the oldest spider species alive?
are they legal to keep as pets?
Can the venom cure cancer? I remember reading ASA does contain mini-micro doses Black Spider Widow venom as a pain killer. Just what I read.
isn't Brazilian Wandering Spider the most venomous spider ?
I've had 3 of these In my backyard pool. Nothing like living in the Australian Bush
How does it compare to the Brazilian Wandering Spider?
The wandering spider has arguably more toxic venom but it is extremely slow acting and doesnt usually inject fatal amounts. A funnel web could kill you much faster. id take a wandering bite over a funnel web bite ANY day.
Sounds like the description of Wolf Creek killer
I bet they taste good too.
Actually the Sydney funnel web is the second venomous the Brazilian wandering spider is the most venomous
Atrax doesn't dry bite though. They mean it. But it's only dangerous to primates (bad luck)
It can cure cancer but what else would it do
i didnt know you did this vid
I need way more coffee in me to watch a video like this lol damn
I wanted to learn more about the cure, less about the spiders.
im confused...when i was a kid the funnel web was the worlds most deadly...a few years later the Brazilian wandering spider surfaces as something much more venomous. now back at the intro to the funnel web being the most venomous...which one is it? what ive found is the funnel web still hides from people doesnt seek out kills and keeps to it self. the wandering spider has been known to attack barefoot children in the street in broad day sending them to the hospital. but which one has taken more lives and which ones venom is actually stronger? anyone know? i get mixed answers online so thats why im asking

Amazing!
+julianofsatown Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated :)

Is he from New Zealand?
+Kevin .Sullivan The spider or Jamie our presenter?
I have these in my backyard - and I'm constantly walking around without shoes on in the dark and drunk. I don't know how I've never stepped on one.
+ajnode perhaps you should i) stop walking around drunk or ii) put some shoes one lol Thansk for the comments!
*****

The US own official cancer site, says THC has been proven in multiple lab studies to kill and prevent caner cells....food for thought =)
spodermen vs cencer?
"That's just the nature of science." I don't think you really understand what science is.
Spider??? with 10 Leg? vertical fang? hehehhehhehe This what we call TARANTULA. Google please what the different between spider and TARANTULA. So funny when someone so call scientists make a silly mistake!!!

Try to go to sleep now
Then make it get off it's lazy spider ass and do it.
Wait..if this is the cure...why the fuck are ppl still raising money to figure out a cure for breast cancer -_-
1:38 WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU SHOW THIS
IT IS NOT IMMEDIATELY APPARENT THAT THAT IS NOT A REAL FINGER
GOOD GRAPES THAT IS HORRIBLE
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
then prove it n cure it
that costs money.
You can't cure a genetic mutation, just treat it.
I don't believe so, do not tell fairy tales
