I am currently learning about obsidian, in order to study better not only my courses, but the books I am reading too, and your videos are helping a lot man. Not only that, but your content is so well organized it actually inspires me to put effort in doing the same, but in my vaults. Thanks bro! May God bless ya.

When your mouse pointer hovers over the table you created via the Dataview plugin, a cyan frame appears … where does that come from and what does it do? Is this a CSS snippet working in the background? If so, which one? Also, does the styling of the Dataview table come from/with the theme you‘re using? Or did you do that via a CSS snippet, too? 😳 Thanks! Great video!! 👍👍

This is great content, I will have to practice with templater so I can get used to it.

@@itsjohnmavrick I noticed some challenges with the mobile version of the startup vault, is this because the templater plugin doesn't work for mobile? :(

@@sfield541 It should work, if you want you can send me an email with specifics and screenshots and I can try to help out. When I had this problem it was because the name of the templates folder was changed from lowercase to capitalized, so I just made a duplicate folder with the same name.

Can you make a video showing what you use notion for compared to what you use obsidian for? Like what is better done in notion vs obsidian? Thanks

Notion does much more than obsidian. It has formulas you can literally write applications with it. It's clunky because it does do so much. You can use notion and it'll soon all of obsidian is my opinion.

Just an idea, but what if you wanted to distill the contents of a skillshare or Udemy course?
Maybe an idea for a future video? Since it would address the other types of learning that video courses would grant you (and since it'd be interesting for Obsidian to tackle video-oriented courses, since it's possible: you can embed GIFS , LICEcap can make anything on your screen a gif, and you can then make a lightweight video alternative for key points!).
I'm particularly interested in learning Jiu JItsu, and since it requires a visual representation of particular positions, I wonder how Obsidian could handle such a thing.

This is a great idea! I have a video in the works similar to this video but for book notes, but didn't think about other forms of content consumption as well; I'll have to think of whether to make the video more focused on skillshare/online courses or for visual note taking in Obsidian (drawings, screenshots, etc). Once I find something video-oriented to learn I'll revisit the idea :)

Great video. Your presentation is interesting and informative but it is difficult to see some of the examples (eg templater) because the theme font/colour is blurry on a small screen. Thanks.

    • @itsjohnmavrick

Yes! you can just add the link instead of the tag/folder like:
      from [[PSYC 100]]

But can you tell me how can i use this for maths , I want to use LaTeX but I feel that it's much easier to write it on paper but at the same time I would love to have them stored digitally
Can you make a little tutorial on using LaTeX

Hi! I am not if you are still interested or not but I recommend the plugin Latex Suite. I am an engineering student and that plugin makes writing all of these cursed formulas much easier, and sometimes faster than doing it by hand too!.

this is usefull but i would like a way to make good atomic notes out of the school notes so that i don't have to search through the school notes to find something months later. i'm especially stuck on how to write the math notes. like i want one note with the equation and one that tells how to use the equations and one that gives the background story of the equation, but i don't know how to name and organize them so that i don't get lost in complexity and a tag/note mess.

    • @itsjohnmavrick
      @itsjohnmavrick  2 роки тому +1

If you want to see how to break down notes, I would recommend my concept map/zettlekasten video (i might have a math video coming soon). I don't think you need notes for each separate thing: for example if you wanted to takes notes on the Pythagorean theorem I would personally just create a "Pythagorean Theorem" note, then have headers inside to differentiate between the things you mentioned, with toggle headers so you can easily hide information. Something like ## Formula, ## Proof/Backstory, ## Examples / Use Cases. I'll possibly share my math notes in another video as I've done discrete math and linear algebra in obsidian :)
